PRIVATE STRUCTURE. Nestling in the enchanting scenery of the green and tranquil region of Umbria, at the edge of the pretty village of Acqualoreto and just a few minutes from the medieval towns of Todi and Orvieto, San Valentino enjoys an ideal hill position overlooking the beautiful countryside all around and the small neighbouring villages which, at night, forge an impressive illuminated geometry. Originally a Benedictine monastery in the thirteenth century and transformed, over time, in a castle for crowned heads, it is today a charming country house for guests seeking a luxurious abode with an antique flavour but equipped with all modern conveniences. The fine restoration has preserved several elements that characterized the original construction such as the doors, the handmade terracotta tiled floors, the exposed stone walls built in fortress style, the high ceilings with exposed beams and terracotta bricks and the ceiling with barrel vault in the dining room that originally housed the church. The furnishings, with the period furniture and massive chandeliers, blend harmoniously with the architectural style of the rooms. The house, surrounded all around by a large park, ensures privacy for the guests who can, however, thanks to its excellent geographical location, easily alternate quiet relaxation with interesting excursions to the many rural villages in the immediate vicinity or to the nearby lakes of Corbara, Bolsena or even Trasimeno: and finally, the excellent road system allows easy trips to visit the most important art cities of Umbria and Tuscany.
The house has two floors, connected both inside and outside, plus a habitable tower. The main entrance, on the ground floor, leads directly into a large dining room connected to a well equipped kitchen and sitting room with satellite TV and fireplace. The kitchen and sitting room lead on to a second dining room and from there to a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with tub. Completing the ground floor is the laundry room and a little guest bathroom with access from the kitchen. A wooden staircase in the first dining room at the entrance leads up to the first floor with a studio, which has direct access to the outside via a stone staircase, and the sleeping area with 2 double bedrooms (one with divisible bed), each with ensuite bathroom suite with tub, and a third large bedroom with the bathroom in the room itself. And, finally, a flight of stairs leads to the tower, consisting of a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower.
ANNEX: The annex, about 70 metres from the main house, consists of a single floor composed of an open-plan kitchen and living room with dining area and sitting area forming a single, spacious room and a study connected to a twin bedroom and a double bedroom sharing a bathroom with shower.
The estate surrounding the house, completely fenced in with wire mesh and chestnut wood poles, extends for about 6 hectares, covered in part by an olive grove and in part by a large wooded area where guests can walk and jog. Around the house an area of about 1 hectare is planted with lawn and contains a dining area furnished with tables, chairs and barbecue, just outside the kitchen door; also in several strategic points around the garden comfortable sitting areas have been arranged, equipped with sofas and armchairs, perfect for simply relaxing or else to chat, accompanied by a good glass of wine. The vegetation is very varied and is meticulously maintained; the park is enriched by numerous types of plants and flowers that brighten the area - typical trees such as the ubiquitous cypresses, holm oaks in the wooded area and olive trees together with borders made up of colourful and aromatic plants: rosemary, broom and the classical germander shrubs with their delicate scented flowers are scattered everywhere, interrupted here and there by a hammock, a bench or a sofa inviting guests to spend their days in the open air. Completing the park is a lake, about 200 metres from the house, at the disposal of the guests who would like to try a bit of fishing.
Open from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October, the beautiful infinity pool, accessible from the house via a ramp that runs along the woods on both sides, is located in an area surrounded by lush vegetation of tropical evocation: on one side the holm oaks that characterize the wooded area and then hedges, wisteria with its fragrant white flowers and a huge flowering catalpa which towers over the cosy sunbathing area, creating natural coolness. The pool is lined with PVC, has chlorine purification and measures 6 x 12 m with a depth ranging from 1 to 2.5 m. Access to the water is via large steps and a ladder;a cold-water shower is at one side of the area. The solarium area with flooring partly in teak and partly in brick, is equipped with beds, sofas and coffee table, ideal for relaxing after a swim, and is provided with lighting for pleasant evening breaks.

Situated in the green Umbrian countryside, not far from the city of Orvieto, and just a few kilometres from Orvieto exit of the A1 motorway, San Valentino is a good starting point for those wishing to visit and explore the beauties of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. The towns of Umbria are well served by the E 45 highway via which Todi, Assisi and Perugia can be easily reached.
