Additional Location Information

Todi is a city in the province of Perugia, situated at 400 metres above sea level. It is known as “the most liveable city in the world”, as demonstrated by the research of a professor of an American University. Todi is situated on the top of a hill overlooking the valley of the river Tevere. Its territory is one of the largest all over Umbria and it's almost entirely dominated by hills. As well as Todi, other villages to visit are Pantalla and the zone of Ponterio-Pian di Porto, which also includes the industrial area of the city.
The historic medieval centre boasts some sacred buildings of great prestige such as the “Concattedrale della Santissima Annunziata”(cathedral), the church of San Fortunato and the convent of San Giovanni Battista. Outside the walls you can find the famous Renaissance church of Santa Maria della Consolazione. Another place of interest is the fortress, situated at 411 metres above sea level. It is the highest point of the city, built according to the will of the pope Gragotio IX in the 1373. Some years after, the fortress was demolished. At present, there are only few remains. The civic museum, situated inside the “Palazzo del Popolo e Capitano”(palaces) and renovated in the 1997, houses a collection of numismatics, archeology, fabrics, pieces of ceramics and an art gallery. The Museum Lapidario, houses one of the oldest collection of the region Umbria, consisting of stony matherials belonging to the Roman, Medieval and Modern Age. The city offers also numberless tourist route.
In 1236, here was born Jacopone da Todi, one of the first dialect poets in Italy.
