Additional Location Information

Grahovo is a small sleepy rural village on the edge of Triglav national park surrounded by mountains and forestry. It is unspoiled as it is slightly off the main tourist track but still allows you to access all the main tourist attractions and activities. There is a small grocery shop in the village which is open from 7 a.m to 12 noon and closed on Sundays. There is a local bar/cafe which is open every day except Thursdays, their homemade pizzas and ice cream are to be recommended.

Grahovo was the chosen location for the filming of the first Slovenian movie
The movie, Na Svoji Zemlji (On our own land), was filmed in 1946, just after the 2nd WW in Grahovo and in the neighboring village of Koritnica.
This film tells the story of the partisans struggle against the Italian and German occupancy and how the villagers helped the partisans.
Today there is a walking trail in and around the two villages which shows you the location of the different scenes. It is interesting to see how little some of the locations have changed since 1946.
This area is steeped in history from the 1st and 2nd World Wars, there are many local walks where you can explore bunkers and visit monuments.

You can visit Slovenia's widest tree in the nearby village of Rut.

As regards to things to do in the Baca and Soca Valleys, well, the list is long....paragliding, fly fishing (Slovenia is world famous for its paragliding and fly fishing) canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, trekking, hiking and hunting to name but a few.

Tolmin, located in the Soca Valley, is the closest principal town and is a 16 kilometre drive from Grahovo. There you will find Supermarkets, Adventure Sports Centre, cinema etc. A trip to the nation’s capital, Ljubijana, is a 70 kilometre drive away or, if you fancy a day trip to Lake Bohinj, you can drive there in approximately one hour. Alternatively, you can drive to Podbrdo (15 km away) and catch the car train which cuts through the mountains and gets you to Bohinj in 7 minutes. Bled is a further 15 minutes drive from Bohinj.
The wine region of Slovenia, Goriska Brda, is 50 km away and makes a good day trip for sight seeing and wine tasting.
The famous Postojna caves and Karst region are 75 km away and also makes an excellent day out.
If you fancy a romantic day out, you can drive to Venice in under 3 hours.
All in all Grahovo is very centrally placed and makes a great base for discovering Slovenia.
However you choose to spend your time here, you are guaranteed to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, flora and fauna of this beautiful area.
