"Great Tahoe Cabin in a perfect location!"
Left on 08/09/2015 for a stay in July 2015
This beautiful and cozy Tahoe Donner cabin within minutes of downtown Truckee gives you a wonderful feeling that you are at home from the moment you walk in. It is located within walking distance to the fitness center, golf course, and the lodge. It's also just a few minutes drive to the Tahoe Donner downhill ski area or a world class cross country ski lodge. You can drive 30 minutes or less and be at Northstar, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, ski resorts or on the shores of Donner Lake or Lake Tahoe. We love staying at this cabin and will be back every year.

This is a great place to begin any Tahoe adventure. By car, restaurants and grocery store is about 10 min away or less. Donner lake is equally close by. We went there almost everyday. For an $8/day fee you can access a private beach with kayak/SUP rentals, beach chairs, restrooms, and snack shack. That fee also gets you into a community pool with hot tub, tennis and basketball courts and a playground. We also used the numerous trails in the neighborhood. Some you can walk to, other trail heads are less than 5 min drive away. It's dog friendly and not heavily used so it's as if you have the wilderness all to yourself. Donner lake also has a dog friendly beach right next to the private beach that you can access from road side parking for free.
Home was very comfortable and well outfitted in the kitchen. Beds were comfy and sheets felt nice to sleep in. Our only drawback was no fenced area for our dogs. But it was summertime so supervising their potty breaks wasn't a big deal. The upside to no fences means that the wilderness comes right to your door. We saw deer grazing every day. Even saw a couple baby jackrabbits and a coyote.
Two people in our party brought their mountain bikes and they were able to bike right from the house. There are many options for road cycling or mountain bikes.
So whatever outdoor activity you want to do, it's easily accessed from here. I would come back again for sure.

My friends and I stayed at Tahoe Family Donner Home and had a GREAT time! We came up for Tough Mudder so we wanted a nice, relaxing place to stay which is exactly what we did at this home. It was a beautiful, cozy home that had everything to offer. If you are looking for a charming home to stay at with a few friends or family, I would most definitely recommend staying here!! Thanks to the owners who let us enjoy their home. :)
"Cozy Tahoe Donner home"

Large home on a quite street. Close to everything. Good home for two families or a group friends. Maybe 8. The street has very little traffic so the kids can ride without dodging cars all day. 20' from the beginning of a 30-40 minute downhill trail to Alder Creek. Great family sleeping arraignments. Not too fancy but plenty of cozy. Perfect!

Nestled within the Tahoe National Forest, Truckee is a lovely mountain town and a great home base for an outdoorsy vacation. A stop on the old railroad, Truckee was founded as a lumber town in the 19th century. While it still maintains a bit of its original character as a Western outpost, Truckee is now a well-known gateway to the Lake Tahoe region. The historic buildings in Truckee's downtown are filled with cafes, boutiques, and brewpubs. Truckee can be a great stopover on your way to Lake Tahoe, CA, as well as a destination in its own right.
In the summer months, Truckee is a big destination for white water adventures along the Truckee River. There are numerous tour operators in town that will organize a guided rafting tour down the rapids. Truckee is also an excellent jumping off point for exploring the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains. Just outside of town, the beautiful Donner Memorial State Park offers miles of scenic trails through clean alpine scenery. For boating, swimming, and water sports, Donner Lake offers a smaller and more low-key alternative to Lake Tahoe. West End Beach is Donner Lake's most popular hangout, with sandy shores, picnic areas, and swimming. For golfers, Truckee offers nine golf courses, as well as access to numerous additional courses in the Lake Tahoe area.
In the winter, Truckee is perfectly situated close to many major Tahoe ski resorts and some of the nicest alpine scenery in California. If you are interested in heading into the wilderness on a snowmobile or a pair of cross-country ski, Truckee's tour operators can set that up, too. Head home to Truckee after a day on the slopes to enjoy great food and a low-key atmosphere.
If you are planning a trip to Truckee, check out the following sights:
- Donner Lake: Spend a day in the sun around this freshwater alpine lake surrounded by sand coves and hiking trails.
- Emigrant Trail Museum: Learn the history of the ill-fated Donner Party, a wagon train that was unexpectedly trapped by a snowstorm over Emigrant Pass.
- Donner Ski Ranch: Learn to ski or snowboard at this small and friendly winter resort, great for beginners and families.
- Sugar Bowl: Hit the slopes at this large, family-friendly ski resort near Donner Pass.
- Kid Zone Museum: Take the family to this interactive museum for children, or sign up the kids for summer camp, craft nights, and classes.
- Stampede Dam: Just seven miles north of the city, the Stampede Dam and Reservoir is a top destination for fishing.
For a relaxing summer retreat or a snowy winter getaway, seek out a vacation rental in Truckee, California. During the winter, a cozy cabin is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the slopes. In the summer, find a comfortable condo that will put you close to Donner Lake and the surrounding wilderness.
