Now that I have finally had a moment to catch my breath, I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful trip we had to Tahoe last week. Your Flipkey site certainly doesn't do the house justice and I will be sure to write some positive comments there. Everything was great and it was definitely one of the nicest houses we have stayed in (especially the kitchen).

Handicapped? Because our house has no steps to get in and we have a sleeper sofa on the main floor with a (1) 1/2 bath, there is a possibility for a stay with someone that can't do stairs. However, we are not promoting this house as equipped for a handicapped person. Our floor plan is also not very conducive for wheelchair use. Therefore any consideration of use by a handicapped person would need to be discussed before booking our home.

This is a very nice and roomy home. Well appointed and clean with a lot of up to the minute amenities. Our extended family of 15 (6 teen and preteen kids) were very comfortable. The sign up and sign out process was efficient, easy and comfortable. Contacts were business-like yet had a personal and friendly touch.

This house just keeps on giving! Lots and lots of rooms inluding two master suites, and a room for teens or kids that is super cool. Plus, a hot tub, coupla fire places and use of the great Donner Rec Center (more pools, great gym etc). The owners give personal attention and you can always reach them; they aim to please. House is comfortable; location great for skiing. Kids sledded right out the back door!
Thank you for your nice comments. Yes, we love our house also. Along with those 2 King Master Suites we also have a complete Queen Master Suite. Hope to see again soon. Thanks, Bill

We loved the house in Tahoe Donner. Not only was the location perfect, but the house and amenities were great. We were one of the first to use the wireless system and the owners were very helpful in getting us set up. All in all, I recommend this as a great place for a large group!
Jeff, that is really great you are coming back again next month. You will really enjoy everything we just did in the living room including a new leather sectional with a queen sleeper and a 55” Sony over the mantle. New hardwood floors and if you have Netflix you can stream and watch your own movies in the livingroom. It is called a PlayStation 3 and it has a combined Blu-Ray and regular DVD player built into it also. Have fun!

Everything about the house and my experience was great until the week after our stay. One night during our stay I baked pizzas in the oven (using the very highest heat setting). Later I noticed that the glass door of the oven was cracked, without any obvious impact damage. I explained this to Pat and told her that I didn't feel responsible since we didn't misuse the oven. She said she'd talk to an oven guy and get back to me but she never did. Some time later I received my deposit back with the cost of an oven door taken out. I wasn't happy with their decision, but accepted it and moved on. Now they've asked me to review my stay at their rental, so I thought it appropriate to tell the whole story. In honesty, though the house was great and our weekend was a big success, this experience with the oven has appreciably diminished my experience with the owners and with the house rental in general. I can't recommend the rental to a friend (at least without this story as a caveat).
#1 the house DID NOT have an oven door with broken glass when this tenant arrived. # 2 the house DID have a oven door that WAS broken when they left. So, now for the "other side of the story".
This was his response before the bill for the broken glass in the oven door. 5/5 out of 5 stars Alan29 (San Francisco, CA) Date of Stay: March 22, 2010 Review Submitted: March 22, 2010 "Thank you so much for renting us your wonderful house. It was much bigger than the photos showed, and we were also surprised by how great the kitchen was. We did lots of cooking over the weekend and always found whatever appliance or dish or utensil we needed. It's a cook's kitchen. Thanks again. We'd love to rent from you again next year!"
We have owned this home for 6 years and have used it as a personal vacation home and a rental property. In this time I have only kept a partial security deposit from 3 tenants due to excessive (beyond normal wear and tear) damage. Generally, if we can fix it, we do not pass on the costs. One of the partners is a general contractor. If we need to spend money on a repair through an outside source, we do pass it back to the client. This an extremely large house and on occassion things will happen when this many people get together. In the case of the review. When first contacted we were told the group was going to be approximately between 25 -32 yrs old and the fact that it was a rental to celebrate the birthday of his girlfriend. I always advise the housecleaning service to make sure they notify me if there is any damage that might need some of the deposit held. The housecleaning service entered the house and confirmed with me that there was a broken glass in the oven door. I immediately contacted the tenant via email since I did not have his cell phone, he responded and I called him within the hour to inform him of the broken glass in oven. At that time I also informed him that it would take some time to get the confirmation that it wasn't broken when the previous tenant left (contacting the exact cleaners from that clean) and then get a quote on the repair since we had another tenant entering 5 days later who would need use of the oven. I contacted "A Step Above" owner, Jeff who confirmed the break was during that tenant's stay and he ordered an appliance repair person to give a quote and fix the door. The glass had to be ordered and since it might have involved more than just a simple replacement, he estimated the cost. When the fix of the glass came through it was $136.73. I had photos taken of the break, the receipt and as per the signed agreement withheld that amount from his $1000. deposit, returning $863.73 in the form of a check mailed on 4/11/10. This tenant rented the home for 3 nights, March 18, 19, 20, leaving on the 21st. The signed agreement, prior to any of the dispute, clearly states that the Security Deposit will be returned within 4 weeks, after assessed for damages. This review is very unfair and does not represent the 6 years of the honest home rental partnership that we do have. Don't forget to read the tenants first sentence again.

“Wonderful house in ideal location”

We stayed at this house with 2 other couples and their children. There were 5 kids all under the age of 4. The house was huge and gave us the perfect amount of space to spread out. The living room and kitchen were very comfortable and we felt like we were at "home" which is especially important when you are with young children. The hot tub was also an added bonus. It was an extremely quiet neighborhood and allowed us to play in the snow right outside without having to get everyone in the car. It was perfect location for the sledding activities that we wanted to accomplish on the trip. There are 3 floors, so if you don't like walking up and down stairs, this place isn't for you. It was great for us. The only downside is the middle floor has the majority of the bedrooms, so if anyone is in the living room/kitchen they are walking on the heads of the bedrooms. Our kids sleep like rocks so no one woke up! As long as everyone keeps the "same hours" it isn't a problem, but just keep that in mind. Also, a few of the beds were bouncy/squishy. My 3 year old didn't care at all, but others might like especially the twin beds to be swapped out for newer ones. This was the perfect house for 3 families to enjoy the snow at!! We will definitely be back and our daughters keep talking about the house and wanting to spend the night in "their room"(3 twin beds in one room...how perfect!)
We really do have a wonderful house and it is good for us to hear from our tenants about their stay. Fortunately we stay booked regularly and have continued to have yearly repeat tenants probably because it is a great house and we do listen. The beds are approximately 5 years old throughout the whole house. Since this review, we literally do see that the beds in the kids rooms have had some wear in the center and are needing to be replaced soon and we appreciate the fact that it was pointed out. Honestly kids will be kids and we are guessing they got that way from many kids jumping on the beds over the years. LOL! Who didn't jump on their beds. As for the potential noise from above. It can only affect 2 of the 4 bedrooms on the middle floor with 3 out of 5 bedrooms extrememly quiet. If you are wearing slippers or socks you are hard to hear but if you have shoes on in the quiet of the morning you might be heard above. Generally we have found that everybody usually keeps approximately the same hours and therefore we have never heard this complaint before and might cover part of the hardwood floor with a rug. We do want everybodys stay to be a comfortable and memorable experience.
