Beautiful countryside setting with lovely views right on the Galway/Mayo border, is an ideal base to discover the west of Ireland.The house offers 4 ensuite bedrooms, large kitchen/dining/living , utility room, sittingroom with open fire, outside is a large patio area with furniture so you can sit outside and enjoy the peace and tranquility of your surroundings. If you have children they can play on the swing in the garden. The surrounding area is a haven for walkers and cyclists as you can set off from the doorstep to explore the countryside.
There are plenty of golfcourses within a short drive, and fishing in the local river Clare and Lough Aclaureen which you can see from the house.
Tuam 8 miles is a large town which has a large selection of shops, restaurants and pubs , Milltown village is 3km which has a beautiful walk by the river clare with picnic tables, tenniscourts and a lovely playground , also with a selection of shops, pubs and restaurant. Kilconly is 2km and has a shop and a pub.
A litle further afield but an easy drive is Galway City, Lough Mask and Lough Corrib if you fancy hiring a boat to do a spot of fishing, Westport Town which has the imposing Croagh Patrick, the stunning Connemara Park , Knock, Cong, Ashford Castle your choices will be endless
Hilltop House is an ideal base for fishermen interested in pusuing the famed wild trout and salmon of the great Western Lakes of Corrib, Mask and Carra. Some of the best game fishing in Europe can be experienced on these waters, and the mayfly hatches in particular are legendary. Those more interested in coarse angling will not be disappointed either, with excellent pike fishing also available on the lakes. Ballinrobe is only 24km from the house and is the perfect place to organise a ghillie or boat for any of the Great Lakes. If you are lucky enough to bag a nice keeper or two why not return to Hilltop House, throw the fish onto the barbeque and enjoy the stunning view, as the sun dips behind Croagh Patrick on the Western horizon.
If the weather happens to rule out an outing on the lakes, the Clare River is barely a stones throw from the house and has a healthy stock of sizeable brown trout, as well as plenty of pike. If conditions are right, you might even hook yourself a salmon! A permit from the local angling Club is required for the Clare River.
