Having booked our stay on the internet, we were not certain what we would find - well, we were sorry to have to leave after 3 short days! The location is spectacular, where the desert flora and fauna abound, the character of design in each room presents south western style at its most beautiful, the feeling of privacy at the pool area, the amazing breakfasts and more than anything, the hospitality of the owners provided us with a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.
For those who want a relaxing get away or an active vacation, this is the perfect spot with the perfect hosts. We will be back and we recommend this spectacular experience to anyone, young or old.

My Partner and I travel to aZ every February in order to escape the Winter Blues in Chicago. For years we have driven by Dana and Peter's magnificent home and remarked on its design and location. This year, while exploring where to stay...I discovered that our beloved house in the Foothills was a B&B;! We were delighted to have the chance to stay at a property that we have admired so long. Upon our arrival, Dana was very warm and welcoming. The house is filled inside and out with original art. The Casitas are charming and very comfortable. Breakfast, complete with the charming personality of the cook, Pauline, was an event worth looking forward to each morning. Our outdoor patio was private and afforded both of us a much needed sanctuary to breath and appreciate the gorgeous hills and desert surroundings. I cant recommend Blue agave enough and have been spreading the word among friends and family. I am sure that we will make this our "Tucson home away from home" each year.

I almost don't want to share this place as it is small and will book out quickly, but we loved our stay so much we are willing to let others in on this special place. This B & B has it all, gorgeous location, beautiful rooms, the most attractive outdoor spaces we have experienced and that includes travel in us and abroad. But Blue agava has an extra bonus, Dana. She exudes friendliness and goes out her way to make you feel at home. I borrowed her hiking poles, she made us appetizers when she was a little late getting the hot tub swarmed up for us--and always helped us plan our day. One night while my husband and I soaked were soaking in the hot tub Peter came out and named some of the emerging stars. From hiking, to national parks this area is outstanding. We are already planning next winter's visit.

When you first spot the Blue agave Bed and Breakfast, perched in the foothills above the desert floor, you immediately know you are going someplace special and unique. Having already enjoyed two stays, we highly recommend the Blue agave for your next visit to Tucson. Nestled against the mountains, the views are stunning in every direction. The inn is surrounded with birds, wildlife, and towering saguaro cactus - the exquisite sunrises are matched only by the magnificent night skies.
The casitas are comfortable and beautifully appointed. Our room had a private patio with a chiminea - a cozy spot to enjoy the sunset over the desert. The inn's numerous common areas provide opportunities to chat with the other guests, swim in a sparkling pool, or relax in the hot tub. There are miles of easily accessible hiking trials right off the property. In this magical environment, you get all the advantages of the desert's quiet and solitude, along with easy access to the nearby attractions of Tucson. Friendly and outgoing innkeeper Dana Smith is an award-winning artist. It is her vision that has created this enchanting, treasure-filled inn. Dana pays attention to all the details that will make your stay relaxing and refreshing. We eagerly look forward to returning to the Blue agave on our next Tucson visit!

This is the place! If you come upon it at dusk as we did on our first visit you look up toward the great mountain and on its shoulder there's the casbah outlined in tiny white lights, reddish adobe trimmed in Mexican yellows, lime and avocado greens, pistachio, oranges and blues. In the yards and lovely gardens sculptures and ceramics are set about with mineral specimens and fossils. The handsome casitas are fitted out with everything one might desire in an earthly abode including chocolates. The views toward the east over the Catalina Mountains and Tucson at sunset are glorious. There are birds of all description, coyotes sing in the distance, bees are busy in the sage. At night Tucson glitters far below. The coffee is as bracing as the hosts' conversation. This place was conceived and built as a pleasure palace. The porches and main rooms are immense with vast fireplaces and Dana's unique paintings and sculptures. The pool is perfect. Adjoining the property is a park fine for walking and hiking, and not far to the west there's the Saguaro National Park and the arizona Sonora Desert Museum. The negative? At some point you have to leave, which is not fair.

My wife and I stayed at the Blue agave for 4 nights in November and it was marvelous. The house sits atop a hill near the entrance to Tucson Mountain Park. The views are incredible, particularly from the pool and hot tub! We both enjoyed hiking and mountain biking in the Park followed by wine in the hot tub.
The house has 4 casitas, each decorated in vibrant colors. Our bed was luxurious. Our room was very quiet, but I recommend leaving the sliding door open to hear the coyotes at night! Deer and javelina are also in the area.
Peter and Dana are gracious hosts and very interesting people. Dana is an accomplished artist - her fascinating sculptures are located all over the property. Peter is a Ua Professor and Mars scientist.
I greatly recommend the Blue agave as a wonderful place to relax or for rigorous activity. We'll be back.
