Additional Location Information

Vanchiglia is a district situated right behind the city centre. Born as a popular district, it is now a residential area thanks to the favourable position and to the proximity of the University. In the last years it has become a young and lively artistic and cultural pole. Near the traditional workshops we can found new ones related to design, communication, sound, multimedia. Among the places of interest it is worth seeing Casa Scaccabarozzi (also said “Fetta di Polenta”, that is “polenta slice”) a weird building built for a bet by the architect Antonelli, the designer of the Mole Antonelliana, and the church of Santa Giulia. You can easily reach the centre on foot. The area is full of restaurants and pubs, well served by public means. You will also find easily and at walking distance supermarket, daily fruit and vegetables market, and all kind of shops you may need.
Lying at the bottom of the Alps, and surrounded by wonderful natural landscapes, Turin offers marvellous views between baroque squares and avenue porches, views played between the Roman city planning and the rich baroque architecture. In this refined context, Turin provides moreover a rich choice of Museums, from the Egyptian one to the Modern Arts Gallery, passing through the Oriental Arts Museums, the one of Natural Sciences and many others. Wide choice also of royal palaces, some of which have been declared in 1997 “Human Heritage” by the UNESCO, but even of historic cafés and restaurants, where you can try the famous chocolate or the Piedmont food art which started the well known movement of the Slow Food. Very near to the Alps and so to all winter sports, Turin also offers a series of cultural, music and sports activities and events during all year round. A city which is perhaps less known than others in Italy, but absolutely worth visiting.
