Additional Location Information
The views are across the garden to Montalcino and down the Val d’Arbia towards the Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata, the highest mountain in middle Italy, snow capped and with slopes covered in chestnut trees.
Claudio, who looks after the Villa, will be able to help you with any of your needs during your stay here at the farmhouse. Alessandra will prepare special meals and can also give cooking lessons, if requested in advance. The Herb garden below the kitchen provides a variety of herbs for the cook of the day, along with the vegetable garden and the orchard, which have seasonal produce and guests are welcome to during their stay. The Crete is an area where the land undulates like the waves and tall Cypress trees stand alone or lining the drives to houses and farms. It is great walking country, but, don't worry, you don't need a tour guide - just a map. If you are not a serious walker you can anyway access all areas of interest by car. The Vineyards are the special attraction of the area. There are many with tasting rooms and restaurants for the local wines and other local produce. There is also Horse riding, Tennis, Hot Springs and Beauty Therapy available locally.
Bounconvento can be found off the main road from Siena to Rome. A little picturesque village where time has seemingly stood still. Jasmine scented cobbled walkways, cafe bars, delicious trattorias serving tuscan specialities, fresh home made ice cream from the gelataria, bakery, fruit and veg plus little boutiques selling locally made leather hand bags to cashmere scarves for the winter. Monte Oliveto with its inspriring abbey and secnery is just 10 minutes drive from your apartment.
Available as an apartment only for 4 to 6 guests downstairs (please ask for photos and details) for smaller groups.

The property is a historic Villa in classic Tuscan style that was at one time a hunting lodge for the family that lived in the Castello in the village. It stands above the Via Cassia, the old pilgrim road from Florence and Siena to Rome, just beyond the old walled town of Buonconvento. From the terraces and gardens we look across the valley to Montalcino and the Brunello vineyards. Montalcino is probably the most famous wine town in Italy – so there are many vineyards to visit and tastings to be done!
Buonconvento is a delightful little town with lots of shops, delicatessens, butchers, fruiterers, grocers, artisan, leather and fashion shops. There are Trattoria, restaurants, bars and cafès. An art gallery, a museum and frequent festas and events.Montelandi is at the heart of the rolling countryside of the Crete within easy reach of historic little cities such as Pienza, Montepulciano and Siena. There are magnificent abbeys, castles and churches such as Monte Olivetto and St Antimo
Other Activities: Wine tasting, Hot Spas, Monasteries, Art Galleries
We came here for our honeymoon in 2000 and have returned every year since! Despite visiting many parts of Italy Bounconvento remains a favourite. The welcoming locals ( it has to be seen to be belived!), the sheer beauty of the surrounding rolling hills, the delicious fayre from Ribolita bean soup to Wild boar ragu with tagliatelle or the cantuccio almond biscotti dipped in vin santo to round off a memorable meal!
The home is very accessible to all Moltacino, for the wine and Olive Oil is just a 10 minute drive from your home as the main road to Rome from Siena passes outside your door.
We can recommend our favourite wineries to ensure you get the most from your stay!
The local supermarket, fruit and veg stores grocery stores serve up fresh, local ingredients. Olive oil and Chianti from the region can be found in abundance here making a chef out of any novice! The pretty working village of Buonconvento with it's historical centre, piazza and narrow alley ways offers the tuscan experience par excellence from restaurants and trattoria's to home made icrecream and friendly locals plus value for money (away from the tourist masses) Yet the picturesque mountian top village of Moltacino with probably the finest wine in Italy just 10 minutes drive!
The train to Siena from the village (5 to 10 min drive) which is unmissable with its shell shaped piazza, boutiques, cathederals and churches. Probably as beautiful city as you will see in Italy by my reckoning!
