This cottage offers the best of both worlds for Georgia coastal visitors with interests in outdoor activities. You can conveniently enjoy both marsh / estuarine creek and beach front environments. The beach is six blocks away and accessed by low traffic cross streets. Horsepen creek, with it's tidal marshes, is right at your back door and accessed from our private floating dock. Beach combing, kayaking, boating, fishing, wildlife photography, and visiting the un-inhabited islands and beaches of Little Tybee are all at your fingertips.
We welcome calls and e-mails with info requests / questions about Tybee area and the cottage. For outdoor adventures in particular, we can e-mail maps and aerial photos to guide you around the Little Tybee area. Also have a .pdf pamphlet to help familiarize you with boating / paddling trip safety and wild island exploring. Don't hesitate to contact us--we are pleased to help you get the most enjoyment from your visit.
The cottage is about 1,000 sq/ft divided into five rooms + a full bathroom. Two bed rooms, living room, fully equipped kitchen and a den/dining area. The den has two large windows allowing full back yard and creek/ marsh views. Parking is available for two vehicles and room in the back yard to park a small (~22') boat/trailer. Plenty of room to store and wash down kayaks, canoes, and power boats. The back yard is enclosed with privacy fences. You may also moor a boat to the floating dock. We have a clothes line and dog cable run in the back yard. Many bird species can be viewed from the back yard, and occasionally you will see dolphins feeding right off our dock (look around half tide for this activity). The cottage has cable TV, DVD/VCR player, and HS Internet with WiFi.
We are a pet friendly cottage, however please contact us to discuss details. The cable dog run is strung so at any time of the day your pup can have a shady spot to rest.

While I attempt to respond to guest inquiries as soon as they arrive, my circumstances (travel, no computer access, etc.) don't always permit that to be within less than 24 hours. However I always respond to all guest inquires!

This cottage is a hidden gem. It's spacious enough to comfortably house a family of five and has amazing dock/creek access. We enjoyed many hours on the dock. The beach is a quick ten minute walk away. I would highly recommend the TI Vacation Cottage interested in a weekend or week long getaway.

Bob just wanted to send you a little note to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at the Tybee cottage last weekend, it was truly a great experience. Aniston our daughter and Georgia our Lab had so much fun exploring in the creek. The cottage was nice and provided everything that we needed but the best part was the back yard/dock and views. We spent a lot of our time out there, and listening to the sounds of the marsh at night was great. I just happen to have my parents staying with us before leaving and was telling them about our trip and about Mosby the cat, funny thing my mom was reading a novel in which they had used him in the story, so after doing some research on the Grey Ghost I got a good education lesson and understand why he got that name as I was only briefly able to see him as he scattered back across the street and blended in after getting a little meal. I attached a couple of pictures, one was a pretty good panoramic view that I got one morning of the creek at high tide. Look forward to visiting many more times in the future, my little one is already talking about going back.

What a nice comfy cottage. Went there with friends to renew friendships and create some new ones. It was the perfect place to come home to every evening. Lots of great home cooking, fun, laughs and relaxing. It was a weekend we will all remember, and this cozy little cottage, with it's lovely views of the marsh and creek, will be at the center of them. The dock was a great place to sit out under the stars and tell secrets, make toasts and reconnect to dear friends. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place, with it's homey, comfortable feeling, with us. We all fell in love with Tybee, and we will be back to the island, and to this cottage.

My daughter and I stayed in the cottage and it was perfect for us. We were able to walk from it to anywhere on the island easily and it was always nice to return to the quiet, private, cozy cottage and relax and cook our own meals. It's on a nice street, at the quiet end, that doesn't feel touristy at all. The neighbors were very quiet. It was a treat to have the creek in the back, where you might see an egret or heron in the morning.
Mr. Hunter made our stay easy and fun by giving us lots of useful information and recommendations about things to do and see in the area.
If you are looking for a place to relax and reconnect with friends or family, this is it!

What a terrific retreat for a long weekend! The house is clean, well-stocked, and un-fussy, on a residential street not far from the 6th street beach access. The backyard is on the Horsepen Creek marsh, and is quiet and peaceful. Close to restaurants, the IGa store, and pleasant walks.

The cottage was clean and comfortable. We were just seconds from the beach and everything Tybee has to offer. Every visit to the creek was a suprise, dolphins, birds, mullet jumping, never a dull moment. We will be back for sure.

My husband and I stayed here July 26 - 28, 2013. The house has everything you need for cooking, grilling and eating. Just bring food and clothes. My husband and I fished and crabbed. I ventured out in the kayak. I love taking pictures and took a lot while there. Close to the beach. Loved it and hope to return for another stay.

We've stayed at Bob Hunter's cottage for several years and had a grand time each visit. The dock, creek and canoe make for fun and great nature watching, and if you get up early you can sometimes see the 4' great blue heron that stands at the back of the yard watching the marsh for fish and crabs. The cottage is an easy ~1/2 mile walk to the beech and away from the hubbub of Butler av. and downtown Tybee. Already made our reservation for next year!

I brought my mom and dad to this rental for their 70th birthday gift. They had never been to Tybee before and I thought this would be the perfect place to celebrate. The cabin is very clean, organized and comfortable. It has everything that we needed to eat, sleep and relax for 3 days. The tidal creek is so cool and there are birds galore to watch! The owner, Mr. Hunter is very nice and accommodating. We were in contact before our stay and he answered all my questions and even had suggestions for activities. We had such a nice time and I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone. Perfect location on Tybee because Tybee is so pedestrian friendly, you can walk to restaurants and the beach.

We love coming to Tybee and being on the back waters. It is so nice to walk out the back door and spend the day on your very own secluded dock. We were able to fish and crab at will without any disturbances. There was a constant flow of water where we didn't have to worry about being completely dry at low tide. This allowed us to enjoy the weather and fish all day long. We also had a great time kayaking and canoeing along the channels to the backriver and open ocean. Definitely an experience we cherish and look forward to having every year. Bob is very helpful and informative and will answer any questions you have regarding the area. Being it places to eat, sightsee, boat, or wildlife, Bob knows his stuff and is only a phone call away. Although the main beaches are only a short bike ride down the road, we honestly only went a couple of times because we had everything we needed on the dock. If you love a little privacy and the ability to fish out your back door, this is definitely the place for you.

Wow!!! What an amazing time! The cottage is so clean and feels like home. We even spotted a pod of dolphins fishing while kayaking Horsepen Creek. Bob is such a thoughtful person, truly glad he's who we rented from!
If you're looking for a great family or couples vacation I highly recommend Tybee Island Vacation Cottage. It is our new home away from home. It is in a very laid back residential area with a peaceful backyard with its own floating dock and only a few blocks to the beach. So if you're in the market for a relaxing and calm getaway, this is the place!

First, I want to say that renting this cottage from Bob was very easy. It is a nice house. The water drops so you have to push a canoe over a few sand bars below his dock,to get back up the creek at low water but they are not muddy so easy to walk on. (Bob has deep water at his dock all day.) We paddled down the creek, on the out tide, and went over to little Tybee island. We then paddled up the creek at low tide this is when we hit 4 small areas that the water was to low to paddle. 20 min later there was enough water and we would have not had to walk at all. The Yard is a nice size for a family cookout and the house is very clean. You will find that the kitchen is stocked well with all you need to cook your food. It only has one bath room but the shower is large and has good water flow. There is a hose bib out side so you can wash off your gear. I would recomend you check this house out for a vacation stay. It is in a good location to the beach and easy to walk to town this will save parking fees. The sea food on Tybee is the best and not over priced. Thanks Bob for a great stay at your cottage and we will use it again soon.

We spent a long weekend at this cottage that the kids will never forget! We loved the homey feel of the cottage with plenty of room for all 5 of us.It is not super fancy but clean, affordable and just right for our young family. It was so nice to be able to have breakfast "at home" and for my husband and I to be able to relax and have a drink after the kids went to bed as opposed to a hotel where we would be trapped in a room.
We still talk about the wildlife that we witnessed. When the tide was in we swam right off the dock (bring water shoes!!!) When it was out we witnessed more little crabs than we had ever seen in our lives! The pelicans and other wildlife was breathtaking, the salt marsh is just the coolest thing, something that you dont get to experience in New England and two years later my kids are still drawing on the experience.
We also loved the quirky shops along the road, and are still craving a "low county boil" from the Crab Shack which was such a fun place to eat! The kids fed crocoldiles while we waited and even my picky 8 year old ate crawfish and crab legs.
It was a fun, memorable, easy vacation that I would highly recommend.

Our family has visited Tybee Cottage many times. Very convenient to walk out the back door and immediately behold a creek and a vast salt marsh and see nature in action(birds, crabs and fish and other wildlife). Photo opportunities are many.
Bring/rent a canoe or kayak and launch right out the back door in the creek from the floating dock.
Sipping coffee on the dock in the early am and late afternoon is nice.
Overall a very nice experience!

Our visit was wonderful. The location was perfect because of easy access to the beach and the salt marsh behind the cottage. There are also some very nice eating establishments nearby, as well as a seafood market. The kitchen was well furnished with more than enough kitchenware, if you're in the mood to cook.
There were only the 2 of us and our little poodle, but there was enough room to sleep at least 6 or more. Even though dogs are not allowed on the beach at Tybee, we still enjoyed having Candi with us. We enjoyed walking her out to the floating dock to fish or to watch the birds. We also enjoyed strolling the neighborhood with Candi.
There is a large closed in porch at the back of the cottage where we enjoyed sitting and eating our meals.
The rental process was managed in a professional and gracious manner by the Hunters. We will definitely keep this Tybee vacation cottage at the top of our destination list. A special thank you to the Hunters for a wonderful visit to Tybee Island. Read more
Glad you had a good time. Since we know Candi, I figured she'd have fun. Lots of new smells in marsh country for her to sort out.
Need to correct a couple of minor facts. While the cottage is reasonable size, 1000 ft/sq, we only have beds for 4 so our occupancy limit is for 4 guests.
The “back porch” is actually part of the cottage with central air and heat (ie not a screened porch). It does have two large picture windows which look out over the marsh and creek. If you look at the photos on Flipkey, it’s listed as the “den/dining area”.
