Villa Batu Kurung is a privately owned 3 Bedroom tropical villa retreat which accommodates comfortably up to six adult guests and is just steps away from the Ayung River and famous five star Royal Pita Maha Resort sharing the same access road. The villa is located 10 minutes north of Ubud monkey forest and a scenic 80-minute drive from the International Airport. Well known shopping and dining areas in Sanur and Seminyak are less than 60 minutes south.
The villa location was selected for its semi rural peaceful setting amongst local village houses. In this area, you will experience a Balinese way of life while still enjoying all modern conveniences. The Ubud area is arguably the best place to use as a base when you visit Bali if you are looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Ubud is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali scenic rice fields, small villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples, palaces, rivers, museums and traditional markets.
Villa Batu Kurung boasts features retained from the original Balinese home that once stood on the property including a traditional architectural style and water feature to greet visitors as they enter through the main gate. This 300 meter square Ubud property consists of 200 meter square home, 3m x 6m swimming pool and traditional bale bengong (gazebo).
Modern conveniences include a 42 LCD TV, satellite dish, home theater, iPod/iPhone docks, and high speed ADSL wireless internet. All furniture is locally made including a dining table featuring inlay mother of pearl for six facing open doors to the swimming pool. A fully equipped kitchen comes complete with marble counter tops and is perfectly designed in minimalist style.
Two master bedrooms are located on the main level with the third bedroom upstairs. All are fully air-conditioned and furnished with a four-poster king size bed with cozy mosquito netting. All beds feature the highest hotel quality linen, four pillows, and luxurious firm mattresses.

This was our 3rd stay at Villa Batu Kurung and although maybe not for everyone it suits our needs perfectly once we have had our fill of the beach and the shops in the Southern parts.
Well away from crowded and busy roads we find the overall experience of traditional Balinese design, location and modern amenities perfectly relaxing. Key too is the helpfulness of the staff who are always willing to buy groceries, run errands, provide transport or give advice. Nono the villa manager is especially helpful.
Walking down the road to the Royal Pita Maha for a massage or dinner is highly recommended. The local village folk were all very friendly and our 6yro daughter loves to visit with the local farm animals along the way.
As mentioned previous hoewever it is best to get the villa manager to organise your airport or hotel pick up to get to the villa for the first time. We have no problems getting from Ubud back to the villa via short taxi ride.

This Villa delivers what it promises. Like a lot of things in Bali it doesn't always completely work as intended but people wanting or needing that type of experience should pay more money and stay elsewhere. The villa is located in a village in close proximity to village life and the animals of a balinese village, pigs, chickens and cows. You will need to have transport available, but the villa's manager and driver Nono is exceptionally good. You should have at least one meal at the nearby resort (which you can walk to). It has an absolute stunning view that you will remember. I would strongly recommend this villa.

My two friends and I stayed for 4 nights in April and very much enjoyed the rural experience away from the maddening 'crowds'found in Southern parts. Being woken up by roosters crowing and local village life makes for a nice break from 'city life' and was just what we needed for a few days.
The villa was very well appointed and the staff attentive. Our only complaint was that the weather was rainy and the pool was a bit too cool for our liking.
Highly suggest walking down the road to the Royal Pita Maha to use the Spa and/or have a great meal overlooking the Ayung river gorge! Excellent traditional Balinese dishes served in Royal style... you can also can get the hotel car to take you into Ubud for 50,000Rp. which was helpful.

We recommend this villa to the guest who prefer privacy than assistance. There was a Housekeeping staff in the house, he was not so good in English but very helpful and reliable. The cook will be there if we need him, and the Manager ready to assist with holiday itinerary. We have been to Ubud many times, so all we need is just someone to make up the villa and help us with the shopping. We rent motorbikes to explore Ubud. The masseuse will come to the villa within an hour in advance arrangement. The villa is very reasonable in price, in the perfect discreet place. Yes, all we need in Ubud holiday is privacy, relax, flexibility, and retreat. We got it all in Villa Batu Kurung!

After 80 minutes drive from the Airport, we found this Ubud Hideaway. Villa Batu Kurung is a Luxury Balinese home. We feel the real touch of Balinese daily life. The staffs are very helpful, though they are very average in English. But more than that we always get efficient service and helpful information from the Manager. We must rent a motor bike to get close to the village. However, car with English speaking driver is ready when we need. This home is full of privacy, once we had BBQ dinner, the cook is ready to serve us. Villa Batu Kurung offer privacy, simple, discreet and self service, but complete staff will ready if you need them. But, 6 of us prefer top privacy, we just let the Housekeeping staff until midday, then the house was ours. That was our home for 2 weeks in Ubud. Thanks to the agent debalivillas.com for introducing us this Paradise. We will definitely back!!
