Oyster Cottages consists of two independent self-catering cottages, sharing a single corner property, nestled in one of Umhlanga oldest suburbs and yet perfectly situated - 5 minutes drive - to beaches, restaurants and shopping centres.
Once the farmhouse of an early Umhlanga fruit farm, the 6-sleeper main cottage OYSTER LODGE has been elegantly renovated, whilst the spacious 2-sleeper PEARL COTTAGE, was built from new. Indigenous fever (Acacia) trees line the road verge and guests are welcomed to a well manicured garden with partial sea views.
OYSTER LODGE, is characterised by a deep wrap around veranda with designer appointed bedrooms and living areas. It also boasts a fully equipped and functional kitchen - including dishwasher - for those with a flair for entertaining (albeit on holiday!). Barbeque/Braai equipment is also provided.
The queen bedded main bedroom is en-suite, with a full bathroom (toilet, basin, shower and bath). The 2 other bedrooms have 2 single beds each and share a spacious bathroom (toilet, basin & shower). All bedrooms are air-conditioned.
The lounge and dining areas are inviting, comfortable and tastefully appointed. They are linked to the veranda via wide timber folding doors allowing cool breezes to filter through whilst connecting the interior of the cottage to the garden and sea views - perfect for al fresco dining.
A widescreen television connected to a satellite decoder and DVD player is provided.
PEARL COTTAGE (not included in this Flipkey listing) is a one bedroom cottage, with a queen size double bed. It is both comfortable and spacious and includes all the facilities and attention to that of decor of Oyster Lodge. A sleeper couch and additional linen for younger children is also available.

We stayed at Oyster Cottages in early June this year.
The accommodation had everything we could wish for, very modern and well equipped.
The garden and swimming pool areas are very well maintained and beautiful.
Theresa was a star, looking after us. We were spoiled on our stay.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Cannot wait to return.
Thank you very much.

My family and I drove down from Johannesburg to Durban on the weekend of 18-19 May 2012 for the ECR Bigwalk 2012 race. We found accommodation at Oyster Cottages owned by Karyn Le Clezio via the internet. From the moment we arrived at the cottages our experience got more and more positive and pleasing. We were greeted warmly by Chris and Karyn. Their smiles nad attitude was reflective of hosts endeavouring to make their guests feel at home. Based on our personal experience and our ratings below we will definitely use their cottages(whenenver available the next time we visit Durban. In the same vein I recommend the Oyster Cottages to anyone looking for decent, clean, warm accommodation in Durban. You will not be dissapointed!

We were warmly welcomed by Karyn and Chris who paid special attention to make us feel at home in the tastefully decorated cottage.
The cottage was spacious and of high quality, with a fully equipped kitchen, 2 nice bathrooms and 3 luxuruous bedrooms. Also the living area was big enough for our children to play, and as it was always sunny during our stay, we enjoyed the terrace, garden and swimming pool.
No question was too much and we got good tips on excursions in the neighbourhood. We especially enjoyed the beach and the nice "esplanade" at Umhlanga where our boys got to ride on the freely offered steps of Karyn's children, but also the Ushaka Marine world park in Durban was a very nice day out.
