Description

Harmony House is just that..... a peaceful location yet convenient for Unawatuna beaches and the Unesco Heritage Galle Fort, both ten minutes ride in a tuk. There are numerous restaurants, bars on the beach within a five minute ride , diving is available around the corner and bike rides are organized from Wijaya Beach, also ten minutes away.

Public transport to Galle or down south to Marissa and beyond is readily available at the end of the road as are tuks. The quaint train station of Unawatuna, is ten minutes walk from HH and from there you can take the train to Colombo or down to Matara.

The house was built by a local family in the 1930's and stands in two acres of natural gardens, coconut palms, lily pond, abundant birdlife, green parrots, kingfishers, wood peckers not forgetting the noisy seven sisters who hang around in groups and swoop into the verandah to check themselves out in the mirror. Monkeys visit morning and dusk to forage for leaves, mangos and bananas when in season. In addition I have three rescue dogs, Uggs and Bella and a later arrival, JoJo, found at the end of the road dying of starvation. He has now grown into a handsome and lovable boy. They are all extremely friendly and adorable but HH is not the place to stay if you don't like dogs.

I have lived in Sri Lanka for seven years and HH is my third residence here. I have sympathetically restored the building without destroying its integrity. The bathrooms have been completely refurbished in a classical contemporary style to compliment the house. There are three double bedrooms and a twin, all eclectic yet stylish with combination of European and local furniture. One of the bedrooms is in a separate building at the rear of the main house and has direct access to the garden and pool. To one end of the pool there is an Ambalamba, a great place to chill out on the large day bed, enjoy a siesta or an evening cocktail. Hammocks in the pool pavilion are an alternative choice to swing and read and enjoy a cooling breeze. Dining is on the front verandah overlooking the gardens and the pool.

The staff of three will look after you during your stay. Chaminda, my house manager is a wonderful chef and will help you with prep etc., speaks excellent English and will ensure your stay is an enjoyable experience. Nali, my maid takes care of the house cleaning and will do your laundry. Saman, the night watcher, closes the house at night and is there for you in case of any emergency.
