Additional Location Information

The villas of Slumberland are located in the Blue Bayou area of Utila which is a leisurely 5-10 minute walk along white sandy beaches to Chepe's public beach and the edge of town-proper. If you need transportation such as bicycles, scooters, m/c's, 4 -wheelers, or golf carts, these are easily and cheaply rented from various local island businesses. There are also a number of taxis in the form of pick-ups, vans, and 3 wheeled pedi-cabs on the island for hire at reasonable rates. The island of Útila is famous for its scuba diving (and snorkeling), and is known as the cheapest place in the world to obtain your scuba diving certification. The world's second-largest barrier reef runs alongside Útila and directly in front of Slumberland and is home to over 500 species of fish as well as a multitude of colorful coral formations and invertebrates. The island also has one of the world's largest local population of whale sharks with a research center dedicated to studying them as well as a research center dedicated to the study and preservation of the indigenous Utila "swamper" iguana.
