La Serenade is a spacious and comfortable home for family and friends looking for a holiday in Provence in a charming French Village near to Uzès, one of our favorite market towns in Provence. The home sleeps 8 in confort, with 3 double bedrooms and one bedroom sleeping two to 4 in single beds. The living room with cathedral ceiling is cool and airy. The kitchen is fully stocked and great for cooking for a crowd. There is a lovely, and spacious, garden for outdoor living and dining. Of course there is a pool. This one is round and 10 meters in diameter. It is fenced for the safety of small children.
St. Siffret is a tiny and charming hill-side hamlet a few kilometres from Uzès. Many of the homes have been beautifully preserved, and carefully restored. There are a few small shops, a cafe, a bar, and a restaurant. It is a pleasure to stroll its historic streets and walk to its neighboring villages. It is also possible to walk to Uzès, for its world-class market, wonderful shops, and excellent (of course) restaurants. The house is on a quiet road on the outskirts of the village, and has an electronically-controlled gate.
Nearby Uzès is one of the most historic of Provencal towns, one of the most beautiful, and one of the best preserved. Its market is famed all over France. Don't miss it, for the best of French local produce, homemade jams, charcuterie, local tapenades, spices, cheeses, and much more. There is also a Sunday antique market which is exceptional.
The town is a collection of Medieval to Renaissance Masterpieces, and reflects the history of its Duchy as well as some eminent characters such as the poet and dramatist, Jean Racine (1639-99), and Andre Gide, the literature Nobelist of 1947. A stroll through the town reveals many gems. The three centres of local power still confront each other, in the form of the King's Tower, the Duke's Tower and the Bishop's Tower. The Palaces of these notables and the mansions of others demonstrate the economic prosperity of Uzès, based on the production of linen, serge and silk. The impressive Place aux Herbes in the centre of town, a medieval asymmetrical square with covered walkways and enormous plane trees, was significantly altered in the 17th and 18th centuries, and is a joy to behold, even when the Saturday morning market is not in place. There are excellent restaurants in the town, as well as in the surrounding villages, and the shops and artisan's workshops are as good as can be found anywhere in France.
Uzès has easy access to other notable sites, from the magnificent Roman Pont du Gard, to the sites of Castillon du Gard, L'Isle-sr-la-Sorgue, Avignon, Nimes, Les Baux, St. Remy and Arles. Imagine yourself canoeing under this historic Roman bridge. There is a 9 hole golf course in Uzès itself, plus larger courses in both Nimes and Avignon. Tennis courts and horse riding are nearby. There is even hot air ballooning in a local village ! Throughout the year Uzès offers festivals, concerts, art exhibitions, antique markets, book fairs, theatre, and first run movies in a movie house that is the second oldest in France !
Additional amenities include: river, iron and board, cycling, hiking, washer/dryer (private), crib, online payment, golf nearby, horseback riding, ground floor, hairdryer, swimming.TripAdvisor property ID 1828923...Read more
