Located in a charming village above Varenna, a 2 min. walk from the main Estate, Rose is a delightful house that presents an elegant, somewhat severe, look on the outside, and welcomes guests with luminous modern comfort in each room.
On the ground floor there is a luminous living room, a TV room, and a kitchen and dining area which opens onto a little garden. A pretty pergola, with a table and chairs and 2 deck chairs, is the perfect setting for long breakfasts or relaxing dinners. On the first floor, the furniture and decorations carry on the luminous and welcoming atmosphere of the ground floor; each detail is lovely and studied to create a warm feeling and a perfect combination with the colours of the lake. The double and the twin bedrooms, have wood floors, sweet rose curtains and a delicate touch in each detail. The third bedroom is ideal for children with its white wood bunkbeds and cheerful checked fabrics. On the same floor there is also a bathroom and a smaller shower room. Guests are welcome to use the shared swimming pool situated a 5 min. walk from the house as well as the Estate tennis court.
The lake is shaped like an upside-down "Y" and the beautiful towns of Como and Lecco sit at the ends of the southwestern and southeastern branches respectively. Rose is situated on the northwest side of the lake. The town of Varenna, on the eastern shore of Lake Como across from Bellagio, is arguably a better base for exploring the lake than popular, and crowded, Bellagio. While far less famous than Bellagio, it is also less touristy and more rewarding to visit. Varenna has a waterfront promenade, two small churches on the main square with medieval and baroque frescoes, and the partially-ruined 14th-century Castello di Vezio high above town at the end of a steep 20-minute hike and two villas and gardens to explore: Villa Monastero, and Villa Cipressi. The best way to visit the rest of Lake Como is by boat: a public boat service that takes you to Como's historical centre and and private boat services are also available for hire. Como has been an important silk manufacturing town for many centuries and has a fascinating Silk Museum; to this day Como's silk is still considered to be among the best for quality. Another nearby excursion is to Bellagio, the "pearl of the lake", which has often been described as the prettiest village in Europe with its charming historic centre. From here you can also visit the beautiful Villa Melzi with its ornamental gardens, or sail over to Comacina Island - the only island on the lake. From Como you can also take a funicular ride to Brunate, a hill-top town with magnificent views over the city, the lake and its surrounding mountains. On the other side of the lake you can visit Lecco, the town mentioned by Alessandro Manzoni in his famous book "The Betrothed"....Read more
