Who says you can’t have it all…?! - a suave and sophisticated Venice haven for two with film-star good looks and charisma in spades (plus Wi-Fi and air-conditioning throughout), wonderfully positioned on the Grand Canal opposite San Marcuola and near the Fondaco Dei Turchi (Venice’s Natural History Museum) in the district of Santa Croce.
A splendid and eye-popping revelation behind its relatively modest 16th Century waterside façade and newly restored with panache and pizzazz, Ca’ Del Fontego’s considerable charms (of which there are many!) include a main open plan living/kitchen/dining area on the Grand Canal and a perfect example of a happy marriage between ancient Venetian and bang-up-to-date city living.
Gorgeous exposed honey-tone brickwork sits at ease alongside age-old marble columns and rustic wooden beams all further enhanced by soft lighting, elegantly co-ordinated furnishings and superb wall-to-wall glazed windows overlooking the building’s Renaissance arches and all the action of the Grand Canal beyond - tear yourself away from the views if you can!
To the rear of the room sits the modern, well-equipped and fully-fitted kitchen/dining area featuring pale wooden units perfectly pitched in colour and style against the décor of the rest of the room and next to which are sliding mirrored doors which add to the overall feeling of space, while to the side sits a further cosy sitting room and home to two sofas, a piano dear to the heart of the apartment’s artistic and jazz-loving owner (more of whom a little later!) plus a glazed doorway and steps leading down to the apartment’s arched private water entrance for speedy and glamorous arrivals by water taxi.
To the rear of the main room is the master bedroom with double bed and fitted wardrobes - a stylish, private and intimate space made even more charming and characterful by polished plaster walls in a buff/sandy shade and a unique and highly evocative mural of the Venetian lagoon expertly painted by the apartment’s talented owner.
There are three bathrooms (yes three!), so do feel free to take your pick! To the left of the bedroom (and also accessible from the second sitting room) is the main bathroom with a large shower and a Turkish bath for extra pampering, while on the opposite side of the bedroom is a good sized en-suite bathroom with bathtub. The third smaller bathroom (accessible via the main room) is more functional in style and has a shower and washing machine for added convenience particularly during longer breaks or if staying for just a few days as part of an extended tour or holiday.
Wrap yourself up in the warm embrace of comfort, great taste and some fabulous views… luxury for two of the highest order!
Within easy walking distance of Venice’s Santa Lucia Railway Station and Piazzale Roma if travelling light and even closer to the vaporetto (waterbus) stops at Riva di Biasio and San Stae on the Grand Canal for hassle-free travel around the city.
Moments to the Campo and Church of San Zan Degolà and close to Campo San Giacomo Dell’ Orio (one of Venice’s most charming ‘away from the crowds’ tree-filled squares) and a well-stocked Coop supermarket ideal for self-catering.
Also within minutes of the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art and a leisurely stroll to the Church of the Frari, Campo San Polo and the culinary delights of the Rialto food markets.

My wife and I recently spent a week at Ca' Del Fontego, and found it to be absolutely perfect for our needs.
Firstly, arranging the rental with Daniela, and subsequently the meet and greet by alexandra went very smoothly. We were kept informed through out the process of booking/deposit/final payment/arrival, etc.
The photos on the site are extremely accurate. You open the glass sliding doors and voila, you can almost lean out and touch the water. There are good curtains for night time to provide privacy as the waterbuses slowly cruise by your windows.
We found the apartment was well-suited to a couple, and well-appointed so you could eat in or dine out, and generally be self-sufficient when you wanted. The apartment is also close to a supermarket for wine and provisions, and a short walk to the train station, and even shorter walk to the nearest waterbus services. The alilaguna (orange line) also stops at the nearby San Stae stop for those wanting to use a more reasonably priced and fun alternative to the expensive watertaxis from the airport.
The location was in a very quiet area, off the main path a block or two, and accessed via a small courtyard, meaning it was very quiet. There are two bathrooms off the main bedroom, including a turkish bath which we found fantastic and very practical.
While the apartment could be used for two couples as there are extra beds available, it would be a little too cosy so I wouldn't recommend that for any more than a few days.
I have stayed at a top class hotel in Venice right near the Rialto bridge and this location was far better as it was away from the day-tourist hordes that frequent the Rialto area. The apartment was also far better value than a hotel, and you also get to relax more without worrying about vacating for the cleaners, or always having staff around you.
The next time we are in Venice, I will definitely stay here again. Thanks to Daniela and alexandra as well!
We’re all delighted you had such a great time living like a true Venetian at Ca’ Del Fontego – it was a real pleasure to welcome you as guests and hope we have the pleasure of seeing you again whenever you hear Venice calling you back!
With all the thanks and best wishes of us all at the office.

We were met at the train station by Valentina, at 10pm, who helped us to our wonderful apartment, which kicked off our stay in such a nice way. Valentina was absolutely lovely and very helpful in every way, from being extremely accommodating and meeting us at the train station, guiding us to the apartment, setting us up in the apartment, explaining everything possible, including some excellent tips on local dining, to being available via a simple phone call the entire time we were in Venice. The apartment, what can I say - Fabulous location and absolutely lovely inside. A home away from home. So lovely that sometimes it was hard to actually want to leave each day. The two things I would mention and these are by no means an area of concern, would be the bed and the lighting in the building foyer. The bed was a tad noisy as it tended to squeak when you got in and out of it, but still comfortable, and possibly an automatic light in the building foyer, or a switch just inside the door as it was a bit dark at night when returning to the apartment. (forgive me if there is one there and we just didn't locate it)

This is a great apartment -- very comfortable with a fabulous view of the Grand Canal. There was a vaporetto stop nearby. San Giacomo Dell'Orio was also nearby which is a very nice area with a supermarket, bakery, restaurants etc. We were very pleased with the service provided by the Views on Venice staff -- they were terrific. Our only complaint was the weather -- August weather in June -- sweltering.

Views on Venice people were all helpful and available. The apartment was as described, charming, comfortable, well located, near a delightful small campo where we had breakfast each day.
Only negative: some mosquitoes when we opened windows.
We are definitely coming back.

This is one of the most spectacular homes I have ever rented. The house itself is an experience! Itis on the Grand Canal in a very non-touristy part of Venice. Authentic Venice life passes by you constantly on the water. Take a few minute stroll to the local plaza and buy a liter of fabulous wine (in a plasic bottle!). Go to the bakery and strike up a conversation with the owner. Go back home and sit in the steam room and dream. The home is meticulous. Ad is even more beautiful and comfortable than the pictures describe. Can't wait to go back! Bravo to the owner who has done something very special in a very special city.
