Venice, Veneto - Venice, Italy
Additional Location Information
The apartment is located in the Dorsoduro neighborhood, near the “Zattere”, a splendid walkway that runs along the Giudecca Canal which is considered one of the most exclusive and romantic areas of the city.
Within a 5-minute walk you can come to the Guggenheim Museum which hosts one of the most prestigious collections of modern works of art in Italy. The collection claims works by some of the most famous European and American avant-garde artists in the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection is located in the Venier dei Leoni Palace which was home for more than 30 years of the famous American Peggy Guggenheim, who owned the collection until her death in 1979. It then passed on to the Salomon R. Guggenheim Foundation of New York.
One of the sites most loved by Venetians is the splendid Salute church, that is just a two minute walk form the apartment. The church has an octagonal floor plan and an enormous dome which peaks with a lantern that frames the balustrade and eight stone pillars with spheres upon which the Immaculate Madonna holds the throne of the Captain of the Sea. Every year on November 21st, the church holds a festival to celebrate the end of the Plague in Venice. There is a temporary bridge created for a mass pilgrimage that finishes with the lighting of a candle in the church.
The area is very rich and thriving from an artistic and cultural point of view. In just a few minutes you can reach the Accademia Gallery which offers the most complete collection of Venetian art from the 12th to the 18th century.
