Additional Location Information

Poiano is a borough of Verona, it is 2,68 Km North-East from the city centre and lies at 83 metres above the sea level. 1998 people live in this borough, it is the west part of Valpantena, right next to Torricelle, between the borough called Borgo Venezia and Quinto. The first documents witnessing its name go back to I and II century AD: Puliano, then Pollano, both from Latin Pullianus (Pullio’s farm). According to a popular etymology it comes from the Latin expression Podium Iani, i.e. “Janus’s hillock”. This name refers to the position of this place, which is the first of Valpantena, for travellers coming from Verona and seems to “open the doors” to the valley. Hence the parallelism with the Roman god Janus, protector of house doors. Among the places of interest, besides the parish church named after St. Peter and St. Paul’s (1823-1830 on a project by Giuseppe Barbieri), the church of “Madonna dell’Altarol” has to be mentioned: it is in the district Clocego and goes back to 17th century. The parish church tower has 6 bells which are still rung according to the old techniques of the concerts of Veronese Bells.
Only a 10-minute bus ride from Verona's historic centre, Appartamenti Poggio di Giano is located at the start of the Valpantena, which includes some of Veneto's most popular ski resorts.Free parking is provided and bus number 51 stops right outside for quick links into Verona and to Verona Train Station.
Offering free Wi-Fi, apartments at Poggio di Giano Appartamenti feature a terrace. They have 1 bedroom and a kitchen with coffee machine, microwave and toaster.
