“Cozy cottage in quiet forest amid birdcalls” We so enjoyed our stay at Volcano Mountain Haven. It is close to the National Park, a focal point of our trip for hiking and birding. The grounds are full of flowers and ohia trees, which are full of apapane and other native birds. We appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, the owner's guidebooks and nature guidebooks, the hike and dinner recommendations, which we followed. It is such a beautiful house in a perfect setting, we plan to return soon.

“Magical” Connie and andrew's place is something out of paradise. It's even more gorgeous than in the pictures, and they supply absolutely everything you could want. We had a great time there. Watch out for the frogs in the region though -- loud!

About Volcano

Not surprisingly, the volcanoes are what bring people to Volcano year after year. The area is also known for its beautiful beaches as well as its cultural attractions, shops, and traditional Hawaiian restaurants. The majority of the restaurants and shops in Volcano can be found along Main Street, while Sixth Street is the place to go for amazing volcano views.

Be sure to make time for some of these other must-see attractions and destinations during your vacation in Volcano:

  • Thomas A. Jaggar Museum: This geological and historic museum provides unique insight into the volcanic history of the town.
  • Akatsuka Orchid Gardens: These beautiful Japanese gardens are a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon.
  • Hawaii Volcanoes National Park: To see the famous volcanoes in town up close, visit this park that has guided tours and historical exhibits.

Watch movies from some of Hawaii's premier filmmakers at the Big Island Film Festival in May, watch the largest hula festival in the world every May, known as the Merry Monarch Festival, or listen to live performances of traditional Hawaiian music at the Puna Music Festival in April.

A vacation rental is the preferred option for those staying in Volcano. Book a luxury villa within walking distance of Volcano's shops and restaurants, or rent a lavish condo with volcano views from right out your bedroom window.

True Sanctuary

Wow!! If you want to get away from it all in a luxurious peaceful setting, this is the place you are looking for. When we arrived, we were stunned with, first, the location the house is in and, second, all of the amenities with the house. The house is located in an ohia rain forest. It is absolutely quiet, except for the lovely sound of birds. There is a wonderful hot tub outside, along with an outside shower and a Finnish sauna. There is also a very cool glass greenhouse full of Nepenthes plants of all shapes and sizes. These plants, I believe, are related to Venus Flytraps. There is also a covered fire pit with available wood already chopped for your convenience. There is also a beautiful koi pond with covered seating. The owners also provide fish food to feed the koi. Magnificent ohia trees abound. I believe one of the trees on the property is probably one of the oldest ohias on the island...magnificent. Inside the house, you will want for nothing. On the first level is the kitchen fully equipped and living area, complete with sound system and fireplace, plus a bathroom that exits out onto the lanai. Upstairs are two bedrooms, each with their own bath and also a den area. There is a lanai upstairs as well. We happen to live on the island and know what is available in this area. This house is top-notch. If you are planning on spending any time at all at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this is the perfect spot to relax after a day of hiking. You are just outside of the village of Volcano, which has several wonderful restaurants and art galleries. Great location, great amenities, great ambience and great value!! P.S. -- we managed to set off the alarm and the owners were responsive within a minute or two.see more

Great stay in lush, beautiful settings

Right from the start I knew it would be a great stay. The property page said Candice and Richard usually reply with 3 hours and even though I sent in reservation at about 10-11am EST, it was confirmed within hours, given the time difference I was immediately impressed. After that Candice provided great information about the area and where to eat and even left my wife a nice jar of local honey (I had told her we were going to hi for my her birthday). The location is very quiet as it is off the beaten path, the cottage was immaculate, and the grounds were beautiful We spent three nights here as a base for exploring Volcano National Park and the surroundings; there was a booklet of things to do and places to eat that took the mystery out of an unknown town, very helpful. The only regret is that we got flew into Kona in the afternoon and got to the house so late we didn't get the opportunity to meet Candice or Richard. Though they were immediately available by phone when I had a bit of hard time finding the right home in the dark. If/when we revisit this area, I would definitely stay again. Thanks for the great accomodations and helpful hints!see more
