The house was really good with all the amenities that you expect only on your home, very clean and pleasant.
Checking in was not so easy as we expected, since we should had received the access code to enter the house. But one phonecall was enough to solve this issue.
Really good location if you want to stay near the Volcanoes National Park. We only stayed 1 night but we were willing to continue much longer to enjoy the house. We would definitely come back!

Well to start, we stayed years ago (2003) at Carson's Cottages nearby which is now closed. We loved the volcano area as a counterpoint to the beaches/coastal areas. The house is incredibly built and the layout is open with combined kitchen/living/dining that spills out to a magnificent deck with BBQ and hot tub. The rental is new and looked to be only rented since 8/2013. The wood burning stove is the centerpiece of the cottage with plenty of the local hardwood logs cut and stacked with great effort. The bedrooms are well appointed as are the bathrooms. The whole place is incredibly clean probably since it is so new. The kitchen cabinets need handles but that is the only quibble. The location is private and you feel like you're the only one around for miles. However the tiny Volcano Village is just a mile down the road if you need supplies and the Volcano NP is 5 minute drive.

We could not fault aloha Sweet Hale and hope to return to your beautiful house one day ! This house was so comfortable for our family and was a great base being only a quick drive to the Volcano National Park.

This home is new and very nice. We really enjoyed the accommodations. We also had a great experience with the housekeeper, who was very friendly and made herself available to us whenever we needed something or had a question. We didn't have such a great experience with the owner. About a day into our stay the brand new hot tub started to smell and turn green, and it continued to get worse. When the owner was contacted about it, she was very unapologetic and said she couldn't have it dealt with while we were there. When the management company went to refund us some money for our trouble, she quickly stepped in and decreased the refund amount, again with no apologies. Our understanding was that she had a similar problem with another of her properties at the same time. It's a fabulous place to stay as long as you don't have any issues that are time-sensitive or involve the owner.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you by the hot tub not working. It seems you dealt directly with the homeowner on this issue instead of contacting us directly. So through her emails, she said she responded quickly and told you she would try and get a hold of the hot tub service person. He was not available on that short of a notice and if the tub were drained, it would take a day to heat up and she was checking out the next day. You then told her that the hot tub was ok on the first day but had a problem on the 2nd and 3rd day. Regarding a decrease in refund, she initially told me it was not about the money. The hot tub was just serviced the week prior.
Also she was very kind to not charge you for a late check out, which would normally be another nighty charge. The homeowner had allowed this out of the kindness of her heart.
Therefore, the hot tub chemical systems have since been changed and we have not had any problems since.
We hope this helps, and we do hope you enjoyed your stay in our lovely Volcano Village!

In a nut shell, it was a little expensive, but it was a nice little house tucked away in the fern forest. All the amenities were better than expected, and the fireplace and hot tub were great on a chilly evening. They also had a washer and dryer, which would have been cool if they had also provided some detergent. We didn't think to bring any. If you're staying here, go try the Thai restaurant in "town". It was a great family owned operation, and you won't be disappointed.
