“The Cottage at Tell Story Walk is amazing!!” Our stay here was the best! I cannot even begin to say how beautiful it is...not just the house but the grounds around the house. And Mary and Mark...you went above and beyond with everything that you did for us. You are such wonderful people and I truly enjoyed meeting you both and spending some time with you. I hope to see you again very soon!! Thank you again for all that you did!!! Mary

About Waco

Waco is a small town in Texas, but it's got a big heart.

Discover more about it by booking your Waco vacation rental on FlipKey and planning your trip today!

About Waco, Texas

In the heart of McLennan County lies Waco, Texas. It's situated between Dallas and Austin, but is much smaller than either of these cities.

That doesn't matter, though. It's got enough character and excitement to match them! Waco’s the town that created Dr. Pepper, after all.

Centuries ago, Waco was home to the Wichita Tribe (known as the Waco people). Even though they were forced onto the reservation in the early 19th century, the town has kept their name.

Waco has a rich and complex history that you should explore during your stay – there are a few museums that can help tell you all about it.

Thanks to the humid subtropical climate, Waco has hot summers and mild winters, making it a great vacation spot all year round. So, if you want to keep coming back (which you probably will) you don't have to wait another year.

What to do

The town was built around the Waco Suspension Bridge, which was completed in 1870 and was a huge feat of engineering for the time. Make sure you visit it to see the fantastic views of the river, as well as the intricately carved statues of longhorn cattle and cowboys.

During your stay, you should visit Cameron Park, which also houses Cameron Park Zoo. Founded in 1944, there are now almost 2,000 animals. It's a great place for the kids, and adults will enjoy it, too.

Are you a fan of golf? Head to Cottonwood Creek Golf Course – it's one of the top municipal courses in Texas! You don't need an invite, and it's a challenging 18-hole course. Par is 72 for those keeping score. All the way round, you can enjoy stunning views of Waco itself.

You should really check out the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum. It's the official center for this branch of law enforcement and makes for a really interesting day out.

You'll see the Homer Garrison Jr. Museum as well as the Hall of Fame. They also have a research center and the headquarters of Texas Rangers Company "F" for you to take a look at. You might be tempted to skip the 45-minute movie, but don't! It's one of the best things there!

To find out a little more about the area, head up to Waco Mammoth National Monument. Within the 100 acres of wooded parkland, over 20 mammoth skeletons have been discovered. You and your family will get a glimpse into the life of the Columbian mammoths and discover a lot about these magnificent creatures.

Top Waco travel tips

Catch a college football game at McLane Stadium. Baylor University's side is a tough one to beat!

Need to cool off? Visit the Dr. Pepper Museum. There's lots to do, a great gift shop and you'll be able to sample freshly made Dr. Pepper.

We suggest bringing your car to Waco, but you can get around by cab easily enough. You can visit neighboring cities by train too.

For a fun and interesting vacation with a touch of the ol' Wild West, come to Waco. Get the best spot in town by booking your vacation rental with FlipKey, today!

Memories made

Met my Mom and sister half way to celebrate my Mom's 75th birthday and Magnolia destinations were on Mom's bucket list. I booked this beautiful cottage and the owners, the house and the land were absolutely perfect in every way. My Mom could not have been happier and we all loved it so much we want to go back again. It is a perfect respite away from the hustle and bustle and crowds when you spend all day sightseeing. I highly recommend this, we will never forget our weekend.see more

Charming home in good neighborhood

We loved the house. It was exactly as they said - but better. Upgraded bathrooms, kitchen and electronics set among old world charming decor. We even had a barbecue in the backyard on their gas grill. Can't say enough good things about the place, we loved it! My older parents were especially charmed with the decorating. Great place - I highly recommend it.see more
