This house is not available until possibly this Fall however we have a guest house which is available for Easter etc. You can see & hear the ocean only 200 yards away. It's on this site as well with the heading Experience Old Hawaii.
We are offering our personal house while away this Autumn. We will consider other dates as well.
EXPERIENCE rare 'Old Hawaii' with fantastic history, location, VIEW & SOUND of ocean in an oasis of flowers & fruit trees. This is OUR HOME not an ohana, cottage, condo or room in a house, in MAKENA (NOT hot crowded Kihei) Should you need anything we have friends next door and relatives nearby. Walk to Makena Resort for the pool & hottub, restaurants, Starbucks, tennis, golf + 4 more 18 hole golf courses all within 3 miles in Wailea as well as several amazing restaurants & shopping. We had a wonderful stay in South Maui. The house has a beautiful garden and we spent much of our time on the lanai enjoying the view and peace. The house is fully equipped with everything we needed, including beach gears and even had sea kayaks for us to use. Sam took us out on the outrigger canoe for a nice paddle one morning, and again the next day to try our luck fishing. Sam and Rebecca, the owners, were great hosts, accommodating and friendly.

The location is exclusive. This is the last house before Big Beach in Makena State Park. The house is 100 m from Maluaka beach, a charming coral beach, similar to Wailea beach with only a few people. The snorkeling around here is so spectacular that it is a popular snorkeling stop for tour boats. You can walk down the beach in the morning and a sharp catamaran will shuttle you to Molokini in about 30 minutes for the lowest rate in Maui. The property is maybe 200 m from Makena Landing which is another popular snorkeling and diving point. The place comes with snorkeling and beach gears, kayaks and bicycles. You do not need to rent anything
The house is of typical South Pacific style. Sit on the deck and you will feel a movie star: It has a very large deck overlooking at the secluded beach, where you can enjoy the best sunsets with your Mai Tai. There are only a handful of houses here and all in the several millions of dollar range.
This is a beautiful house with a beautiful, large and lush garden, full of tropical flowers - there will be an odd lost tourist taking a picture of this house. Any detail is taken cared of: bbq, fully equipped kitchen, even the toilet paper or paper towels for a full month!
The owner is Hawaiian. He has many interesting stories. If you are lucky to meet him... you will not need a TV at night. He and his partner are very sweet and caring people. They are a treasure just like their paradise is.
“Outstanding ocean view, beautiful grounds and loads of aloha”

These owners offered outstanding aloha and anything we needed to enjoy our stay. Enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner on the lanai overlooking the ocean. Waves will lull you to sleep in this very Hawaiian property. The grounds are beautifully designed, maintained, and full of delicious fruits. You will feel removed from the touristy-resort feeling, yet everything you need is either on site, or close by and convenient. Stay at home or explore the island and come back to a cozy home and wonderful restful atmosphere. The beach is good for snorkeling, swimming, paddle boarding, canoeing, boogie boarding, diving or just relaxing. Shade is available. A unique Maui experience in a beautiful setting.
“Beautiful garden in Makena tended by friendly owners”

My wife and I had a wonderful stay with Rebecca and Sam. They were perfect hosts: accommodating and friendly. We made good use of their kayaks and beach gears, and Sam took us on his outrigger canoe for a nice long paddle one day, and a fishing excursion the next morning. The house they rent is in a quiet residential part of Makena, a one-minute walk from the Prince Hotel and the beach (Maluaka). The garden is very large, secluded and beautiful, with many tropical plants and flowers, fruit and coconut trees. We picked papayas off the trees and showered in the garden shower every day. We spent most of our time outside on the large lanai enjoying the scenery and peace. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a BBQ. There is cable tv + wireless internet, but no phone. To fully enjoy your experience, I highly recommend renting a car. The nearest shops/restaurants in Wailea are only a 5-minute drive away. The house was clean, but there were ants which were particularly active at night - something to expect in the tropic. As we were staying in august, the house got fairly hot during the day, but we managed to cool it down during the evening and it was not a problem at night. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and returned home with beautiful memories and two new friends.
We had the house treated so no more ants! plus we have added ventilation at the high ceilings to release hot air on those occasionally warmer than desired days.

“Old Fashioned Hawaiian aloha abounds”

The owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They truly express the aloha of Hawaii. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and yours to explore. You are invited to pick fruits which are right outside your door. Watch the sunset from your lanai while enjoying dinner you've prepared yourself with fresh ingredients found locally. The outdoor shower is a treat but there is one inside with a bathtub also. The ceiling fans cool the home down at night. The best feature is the beach which is just steps away. The ocean sounds will lull you to sleep. The beach is good for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, boogie boarding or finding a bit of shade to read a book. If you don't need a plush resort and a certain rustic setting appeals to you, you should be happy here. The property gives you a feeling of being away from the crowds in Maui. There is a nice hotel with a good restaurant within walking distance or bring your groceries. You'll want a rental car most anywhere in Maui and this is true here also.
Regarding a rental car, actually we have picked up guest at the airport, let them stock up at Costco then leased my car on a per day as needed basis. We've also had a couple that got a cab, got groceries then never left the house! Most walk to the Makena Resort to restaurants. Some have taken the shuttle there to the bus stop or Shops of Wailea etc. The pool and hot tub is nice too. Other guests have used our bikes for transportation. But everyone just wants to stay on property as much as possible. We have made wonderful friends through this experience! Kamuela & Rebecca
