“A great twenty seven night holiday” This apartment is in a very central and convenient location. We were welcomed on arrival by the owner's son who conducted a very smooth introduction to the apartment and left us with the assurance that he was just a phone call away. The apartment is very comfortable. The sitting room with dining area and enormous Master bedroom with large attached bath/shower room has plenty of day light. The smaller second bedroom/shower room is just as comfortable. The apartment and furniture was clean throughout - we were impressed by the spotlessly clean interiors of all the cupboards on the premises. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances but cooking was not an option as the numerous food outlets at the underground Crescat shopping mall and within walking distance serves the apartment well. The underground supermarket/pharmacy is very convenient. The swimming pool was being refurbished so we did not see it, however, the Management office arranged for us to use the Cinnamon Grand hotel pool for a small one-off payment. Security for the apartment is very good - we felt very secure during our stay. Electricity is charged by meter readings on arrival/ departure which we found very reasonable as we used the aC, laundered regularly and ironed on a daily basis. The very accommodating owners installed a landline with incoming calls and at our request provided 2 garden chairs for the balcony. We cite these as examples that they did everything in their power to ensure we were happy and content during our stay. We were pleased to meet the owners who arrived in Sri Lanka towards the end of our stay and they were on hand to check us out at a time convenient to us. A delightful family who made our stay memorable and doing business with them was a pleasurable experience. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this apartment and look forward to returning in 2014.

“A mavellous place to saty in the heart of Colombo” This was the first time we had stayed at the Hedges Court apartment in Colombo and it was so comforting to have stayed at this beautiful apartment as it made our holiday more special. My wife, our two and half year old son and I stayed for approximately two weeks and did not regret once we had chosen to stay there. From the first correspondence from australia to Sri Lanka with the owner to the final departure it was quite easy and prompt making things comfortable for us in terms of confidence in the booking and honesty. The apartment itself was extremely nice with modern amenities, fittings and layout which suited our needs especially with the child. As for food and groceries, there were many places within easy walking distance from which you could purchase simple things such as milk, bread, fruits, veges, snacks, rolls, nappies, medicines etc.. The security guards and caretakers for the block were extremely courteous and obliging which also added to the pleasantness of our stay. We absolutely would love to stay at this place again when we visit Colombo and would recommend to anyone the same. Thank you Piyasiri for making our holiday comfortable and special.

“Modern, Comfortable and Clean apartment in Safe Building/Area” I'm an american graduate student and I stayed in this apartment for two months while interning with the UN. This was overall a very good rental experience. The apartment is modern, clean and comfortable with a very nice, Western-style kitchen and a washing machine. It is beautifully decorated. I felt very safe as a woman living alone and coming and going to the apartment even at night - its located in a safe and quiet area and the security staff who are on duty 24-7 are very professional (unlike the place I lived before this rental where the security guards would try to flirt with me or ask for money). The two full bathrooms were very clean and modern with hot water. The main living area has aC and only one of the two bedrooms has aC, so that may be an issue if you need two aC bedrooms (which I didn't). The landlord was very responsive and provided a cleaning service every two weeks or so and provided clean bed linen. The only problem I had with the apartment is that there was no internet. The landlord did provide a dongle, which I appreciated, but it was not very adequate if you do a lot of Skyping or streaming videos online. That's the only reason I'm giving the apartment four stars instead of five, since I use the internet a lot and that issue could be a bit frustrating. The rental price, though more than I was expecting for Colombo, seems to be in line with similar rentals in the area (and less expensive than similar apartments in Colombo 3). The building is pretty quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed living here overall and would recommend it to others.

“Excellent place to stay while in Sri Lanka” During my holiday in Sri Lanka I stayed at "Tranquility in the City" Owned by: Uddi Wickramasuriya. I found these apartments extremely clean with all new up to date appliances.The two bed room apartment I stayed was tastefully decorated. One of the things that really attracted me was the location. It was right in the middle of anything and every thing you wanted, let it be shops, restaurants or even the hospitals. I have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone who is looking for a pleasant and a convenient stay in Colombo Sri Lanka.

History

Things to see and do
There are landmarks and sights aplenty to admire in Colombo. The perfect place to start is the Colombo National Museum, where extensive collections showcase the city’s history. National treasures including the crown jewels and throne of the Kandyan kings are housed here. The museum is located next to Viharamahadevi Park--with its glinting golden Buddha statue, a stroll around the gardens and water features make for a peaceful afternoon.
Other must-sees in the heart of the city include the decorative red and white Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque and the incredibly detailed Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil temple.
Next on your list should undoubtedly be the striking white dome of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara. This Buddhist temple is a tuk-tuk ride out of the city centre and offers dramatic architecture and even more fascinating history.
An escape from the city
If you’re ready for a break from the hectic city streets, then be sure to visit the Talangama wetland reserve. Described as an “urban oasis”, 100 species of birds have made this complex of ponds and wetlands home, along with beautiful butterflies and dragonflies. Another beautiful escape from the hustle of the capital is Mount Lavinia Beach. Located just a few miles up the coast, take a sedate train ride for the best views on the journey.
Book a lodge rental on the beach and you’ll be right next to Sri Lanka’s famously stunning shores, but not too far away from vibrant Colombo, either. The perfect balance.
Getting around
Sri Lanka’s roads are congested and getting around can be time-consuming. For that reason, when in Colombo the best approach is to walk if you possibly can! For short journeys across the city, a tuk-tuk ride is the standard (and in some cases exhilarating!) option.
For journeys further afield, buses are generally to be avoided due to the state of the roads. Trains offer a more gentle experience, but be prepared for longer journey times. If you’re planning to explore the whole island, hiring a car and driver can be relatively affordable.
But one thing’s for sure – however you choose to explore Colombo, you’ll be bowled over by Sri Lanka’s beauty.
