Renovated 1800's Farmhouse with STUNNING views overlooking Lake Algonquin and the mountains beyond. Sleeps up to 6 (but only 4 in summer) but is the perfect romantic getaway for one couple. Kept in immaculate condition.
Enjoy alll the comforts of a modern home on a serene lakeside setting in a classic old farmhouse. Furnished with mix of antiques, 100 yr old wood floors and modern amenities. This is available all seasons, is a great experience for couch potatoes and adventurers alike. Luxury and views found inside, rugged Adirondacks found outside.
Enjoy a daily walk or bike around the lake (3.5 miles), a hike, kayak, ski, snowshoe or swim, then relax in the Adirondack chairs while barbecuing up lunch and drinking in the view. No matter the time of year or the weather, the view of the lakes and mountains here are unsurpassed!
We supply a detailed list of local hikes, ski mountains, waterfalls, antiquing, museums, restaurants and other local attractions so you will have access to those special Adirondack places that took us years to find.
Master bedroom has queen bed, 2 guest bedrooms have one double bed in each, plus 2.5 baths! Fireplace, washer/dryer, high speed internet, local and long distance phone, great farmhouse kitchen with dishwasher, micro, double farm sink, 5 burner stove. This is a very, very comfortable home.
Guests favorite room tends to be the kitchen, which is part of an open floor plan including the dining and sitting room with fireplace, all with great views of the lake. There is a separate living room with large sectional sofa and 40" flat screen for movie viewing through Net Flix. No cable though, we come here to get away from the news!
Outside we have 4 Adirondack chairs, large Weber grill, picnic table and fire pit for marshmallow roasting and star gazing.
Upstairs Master Bedroom has queen bed, cathedral ceilings and beautiful views of the lake and mountains. Private master bath with extra deep soaking tub (great after day of hiking or skiing), nice lake views from master bath too. Upstairs Guest Bedrooms have use of the 1/2 bath. Another full bath is downstairs.
SPRING, SUMMER and FALL
In warmer weather we supply 2 kayaks, one stand up paddle board, water tube for playing on the lake and 2 bikes. The lake is quiet, clean and perfect for a refreshing swim, kayak or laze on a tube. The local sand beach is nearby, free tennis and basketball courts in town.
In winter we supply 2 sets snowshoes. This home is a convenient and comfortable base for winter activities - try snow shoeing, hiking, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country or downhill skiing. There are occasional winter race car tournaments on the lake, great views of it from inside or go out and watch up close and personal, very exciting to see! The house is across the street (not a busy one) from the lake.
MORE ABOUT THE HOUSE
This is not your typical rental house - plenty of love, attention and resources have gone into the renovation of this home, which was a working farm for 90 years and is one of the oldest houses in Wells. We are sharing with our guests all of the stuff that we enjoy on our holidays here - terrific beds with nice linens, top notch grill, antique wood floors throughout, including in the baths and kitchen, nice furnishings, kayaks, snowshoes - all very nice things.
So we are looking for responsible, considerate guests who appreciate this and will pay attention to some of the nuances....such as our beautiful wood counters throughout the kitchen will stain permanently if you get red wine on them - so please don't - that sort of thing.
Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here. Guests who stay here must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - recycles must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. She simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is similar to camping, if you brought it in, you must agree to take it out! Leaving small amounts (less than one bag full) are fine, and will be hauled to dump by our fabulous housekeeper.
This is a NO SMOKING, and NO PETS (sorry no exceptions) household - is an allergy sensitive home. Kept immaculately clean, so please only very well behaved children.

Everything about our weekend at the farmhouse was idyllic and perfect. The house is beautiful, exquisitely decorated, spotless, and perfectly functional. Everything was clearly labeled, in perfect working order, and was of the upmost quality. We relaxed all weekend long by reading by fire, cooking delicious meals, cozying up to watch movies, walking around the lake, and just enjoying the beautiful snowy winter view. Maura was prompt, clear, and courteous in all of our correspondence. It felt like we were visiting a gracious friend's home--nothing about it felt like a rental property. We would definitely like to come back again and experience different seasons in this charming and peaceful setting.

Our stay at the farmhouse was wonderful. The house was very comfortable and had tons of little "extra's". The view of the lake and mountains was the best part. The owners did an amazing job restoring this property. Anyone that stays here will be very comfortable and happy. The town is very small and not many choices for going out to eat close by. the beach was 5 minutes away and very nice with life gaurds on duty. Overall we loved this place and would highly recommend to others.

The house was fantastic, every little detail was thought of from quality kitchen ware to sauces in the fridge! All furniture, decor, linens, everything... was high quality, comfortable, scrupulously clean, well thought out and planned.
The view across the lake was breathtaking and memorising and we could not believe how much it changed from moment to moment. As a total novice to water activities it was great to have the canoes to use - and we did! and assume if you are an expert its just as fantastic as its on your doorstop - so easy!
Local walks were beautiful just a shame we missed the bear up the road that the next guest ran into - literally! We are sooo jealous.
We cant find fault at all and I'm sure anyone coming to stay will be as enchanted as we were.
Thank you Maura and David for looking after all the details and making our stay an easy and very comfortable one as well as helping us sort our laptop out! a necessity for us being international visitors!

This is the most wonderful house we ever rented. Everything was very clean. We stepped inside and felt home. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and every room was beautifuly furnished. Even the rooms without a photo in the description were very nice. Large Bathrooms, great towels and beddings.
We were here with our 4 year old twins. We hiked every day after having many suggestions from Maura.
Hope to come back soon
Holiday rates are higher and may have a one week minimum stay, please inquire.
The beds can sleep up to 6, but the house is most comfortable for two or four. During peak dates (summer and holidays) we have a 4 person maximum - we are doing all we can to keep the plumbing and house in great shape - limiting occupancy is the best way to do this.
No parties, family reunions, entertaining in this home please!
Summer weekly rentals are Fri to Fri. We offer midweek M-F stays as well, and some F-M weekends.
