“Such a pity Whelk Cottage did not live up to our expectations.”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2021

Potential to be delightful, excellent location and views. However needs completely decluttering, refurbishment of furniture and a deep clean. No instructions on any of the equipment phoned owner and left message, he didn’t reply. Who wants to spend time on working out how things work on holiday. Spent 2 hours on arrival cleaning out dirty drawers and cupboards mattress was also stained. Yard littered spent more time picking up rubbish and tiding that up. Freezer so iced up that it was unusable. The Cottage could be a beautiful place but it’s stuck in the seventies! such a shame.

“What a shame”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2021

This is a lovely little cottage in an excellent location. Views are amazing and although the weather was abysmal we could sit and watch the boats and tide come in and out. The only downside is the furniture in the lounge is very grubby and although the owner says it is professionally cleaned you wouldn’t have known. At first glance it looked OK but obviously not thoroughly clean for sometime. The freezer was so iced up it was unusable. Almost everything we went to use in the kitchen need washing first. One of the trays was covered in what looked like tomato sauce mixed with marmalade. The bathroom floor needed washing and there was black mould round the back of the toilet seat, shower screen and the window. Taps calcified. I cleaned some of it and sprayed the taps etc. It was cleaner when we left than when we arrived that was for sure. Disappointing as a bit of TLC would have made it perfect.

Response from the owner It's such a shame something went wrong with the cleaning, and I'm sorry. I'm glad you managed to have an enjoyable stay regardless, I only wish you'd reached out before posting the review so I could have done something. Apologies once again. Blair
