The house was built with 360 degree views. Northern winters and western winds necessitated the planting of 250 trees on the west side for a windbreak. The trees are now about 40’ tall and protect the house. The house is about one mile off Rt 5, five miles from Burke Mountain and seven miles from Exit 22 on Rt. 91. At the top of the paved (yes that’s how the locals knew my parents were “flatlanders”) 100 yard driveway there is parking for about 10 cars including two indoors under the house.
You then enter through the garage and then the basement mudroom (equipt with washer/dryer). There is a bedroom with sleeping for six-plus a full bathroom. A king bed plus two sets of bunk beds.
The three level staircase leads you to the main floor. Entering the (apx 25x18) Great Room with it’s walls of windows looking north and east, you almost feel like you are outside. Two leather couches (the sofa with three recliners faces a brand new 46”LCD Smart TV hanging on the wall) plus a loveseat allow for plenty of seating space. There is also a brand new pool table and an oak table that seats 10. There is a two foot leaf in the closet should you need additional seating. To the right of the Great Room is the kitchen cooking area complete with an island in the middle to soak in the views while preparing meals. The kitchen looks at Burke Mountain 5 miles to the east and 20+ miles south. To the right of the kitchen is the Master Bedroom Suite containing both a king and queen sized bed plus a full shower/bath.
The second three level staircase brings you to the top floor. The back bedroom offers both a king and full sized bed. The front bedroom has a king bed and bunk beds. Both bedrooms share a full shower/ bath between them.
All bedrooms have new flat screen TV’s. All king beds are new awesome mattresses. The house has wireless internet WI-FI and Direct TV including NFL Sunday Ticket (all NFL games). All bathrooms have heaters in the ceiling fan. The kitchen cabinets are fully stocked with enough pots, pans and plates to prepare a Thanksgiving feast for 14 plus. There is an outdoor shed twenty feet from the house for snowmobiles (we are ON the VAST Trail) that has electricity for lights.
Should power go out, a full-house generator was installed in December 2012.
Linen's and towels are not included in the rates. Sheets are mostly 600 count cotton, similar to ones found in 4-5 star hotels. The five foot bath towels (sheets) are similar quality. Sheets and towels are set at the end of the bed when you arrive if you choose the linen package.
Burke and the Northeast Kingdom
Burke lies in the heart of the beautiful Northeast Kingdom in Vermont. Burke Mountain is a ski and mountain biking destination.
In the winter, Burke Mountain and Dashney Farm-home of the Kingdom Trails Nordic Center has entertained both downhill and cross country skiers for generations. Burke Mountain is a low-cost skiing and boarding gem. In 2011, a high speed quad was installed and zooms to the summit in six minutes eclipsing the old lifts ascent time by 50%. Burke Mountain Academy (BMA) is a ski school that has sent dozens of athletes to the Olympics over the last half-century. If you need a lesson, many of the instructors at the Burke ski school are students at the Academy. Being taught how to ski from potential future Olympians is quite a bargain.
The summer climate is awesome. Temperatures are generally in the 70-80’s during the day and often cooling to the 50-60’s at night. Burke Mountain has become one of the premier Mountain Biking destinations in the northeast and is hosting the 2012 NEMBA (New England Mountain Biking Association) summer festival June 22-24. Bike Magazine, has once again named Kingdom Trails—“The Best Mountain Biking Trail Network in North America.” A “secret” that over 50,000 bikers enjoy every summer on a 100+ mile thoughtfully planned and carefully maintained multi-use recreational trails.
Fall brings cooler temperatures and beautiful colors to the Northeast Kingdom. Nestled in the Green Mountains and only a few miles to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, visitors enjoy breathtaking views as mother nature ushers in the winter.
Full weeks run Friday to Friday. As you would expect, most rentals are weekend rentals. We extend (in most cases) your departure time to 6pm so that you have the entire day to enjoy your stay. This allows the non-outdoor participants to enjoy and the skiers/boarders/snowmobilers/hikers/bikers not to have to rush to clean and even shower before the ride back from vacation to real life.

First off, the owner of the establishment was a great guy. He was flexible and was able to help me and my friends out when we rented the place. He was accommodating and kept us up to date with all the developments and the preparations that were taken before our arrival.
When we got to the house, the owner had warmed it up for us and we were able to enter without a hassle. The house was gorgeous, spacious, and very homely. It was not cluttered but also not barren; a home away from home. There were (comfortable) beds everywhere, which was great for us because there were a lot of us. The kitchen was big enough for 5 people to cook all at once and not get in each others way. The living room had comfortable furniture in it and the dining table was large enough for all of us to sit at for our meals.
The view from the house was spectacular! From the porch you can see the nearby resort, the mountains, and the valley. The house is far enough away from the town that you wont hear any town-related sounds, but it was still close enough that we were able to restock on groceries. Because of the location and spaciousness, no one disturbed us at all and we didn't disturb them. The driveway and garage are large enough to accommodate multitudes of vehicles without cars getting blockaded in.
Overall, this place was phenomenal! Value is unparalleled and the accommodations were top notch! 10/10 would recommend!
