Staying here was a huge mistake. No curtain/privacy between the shower and the frosted window that faces the next door neighbours' backyard. Constant chill throughout the place even though when I arrived none of the windows actually opened. Had to ask for the fasteners to be removed just to get some air flow, leaving the place with no security as the windows were able to be slid open from outside.
The heating only fills the bedroom, the rest of the place is dark and cold. More like a transformed shed/bungalow than a 'cottage'.
Property manager let himself in on several occasions, one time when I was sleeping and was startled by the sound of keys in the door, he was dropping off the parking permit (sliding it under the door would have worked just as well).
I booked for one month in advance, parking was 'included'. The parking permit expired 3 weeks in, I received a ticket in the morning. I called to ask about this and was told that he would get a new permit. Didn't receive the new permit until late that night, by then I had received 3 parking tickets. When I brought the issue up, I believe I should not be paying tickets for parking that was meant to be included, I proceeded to be told, very rudely, that it was not his problem, that it was for me to deal with and pay.
Fuses kept blowing, after the first time I made sure that only the bare minimum of appliances were plugged in and used at one time. But it happened again and I then went without electricity in the bathroom for the last few days of my stay as my enquiry was simply not responded to.
Had I not payed the whole month upfront, I would have left as soon as possible. Felt unsafe, my privacy was not respected and on top of it, I am paying an extra $190 in parking tickets that could have been avoided, were the manager to pay attention to the dates that I was staying.
Was later contacted by the manager saying he would pay for 1 of the 3 tickets. Not good enough.

The location was excellent and on a very quiet street but less than 5 minutes walk to restaurants/shops on Santa Monica Boulevard and 7-8 mins walk to Melrose Drive. Peter (the manager/owner) was very helpful but not imposing. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bed was comfortable. Overall the apartment is perfect for a single or couple on vacation (or work). Thanks for the kind review Lee it was a pleasure meeting you and you are welcome back any time! I would make 1 minor clarification: you must have a specific location on Melrose in mind, as one of the great things about the property is that Santa Monica Blvd. is just 1 block (3-4 minutes) north, and Melrose Ave is just 1 block (3-4 minutes) south.
