Getting around

There is a bus from the village into Chichester, Emsworth and Havant. This is a very infrequent service, so I would not recommend relying on this solely. The nearest train stations are Southbourne and Emsworth, both about a miles walk. The area is outstanding for cycling, with great rides from the door.

Interaction with guest

Our house is about 40 metres from the cottage. If you need help or have a problem with anything we will usually be available. An emergency contact number will be provided so if we're not in, you will always be able to get help if needed.

“Beautiful & relaxing property”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2020

The coach house is a very beautiful property that felt like home as soon as you walk in, the host Sandra was very welcoming & left us a loaf of bread from The nearby bakery. The Stags Head pin is a stones throw away & is the typical village pub with lovely food & a great atmosphere The local train station is 25 mins walk to take you into Portsmouth, Emsworth the other local village is also worth a walk too We loved our stay & would happily book again

“A lovely place to stay”

Reviewed 22 Sep 2020

The house was on two levels, the kitchen downstairs and the large sitting room and bedroom with en-suite upstairs. Everything was of good quality and very cosy and comfortable. The garden was great to sit out in in the evening. We did quite a lot of cycling from the house and there were plenty of cycle routes to choose from. Sandra and family were all very helpful and friendly suggesting some lovely pubs to go and eat at, especially The Fox Runs Free in Charlton.

“Picture Perfect.”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2019

I wish I could give 10 stars, not just for the excellent accommodation, not just for the beautiful surroundings and village and place to visit but for the friendliness of our hosts Sandra and Hugh.We were ready for some rest and relaxation and really slept well in the very comfortable bed. Although we shared the drive with the family we felt very private. I cannot recommended the Coachmans Cottege highly enough.

Response from the owner I try to greet guest on arrival, however check in time is very flexible and arrangements have been made to ensure guests can arrive at their convenience including very late at night. I do not ask guests to inform me of their arrival time, therefore I am often not in when they do arrive. Many of our guests are enjoying a quiet few days away from their busy lives and I try to respect their privacy. Guests are given my contact details should they wish to contact me for any reason. Sorry you couldn't get the lights to work. There is an illuminated light switch directly above the Coachman's Cottage sign, (immediately to the left of the entrance door) that should have been fairly obvious. This turns the lights above and on either side of the door on. Both lights are in good working order and tested regularly. The security light comes on automatically when you drive up to the cottage, but the wisteria has flourished so much this year, that it had covered the light. I have now cut this back. I have replaced the dressing table with a full chest of drawers. Guests are asked to park directly in front of the cottage, just a few steps (6 or 7) from the front door. When parking here, they do not obstruct the garage, which is further away than the recommended parking space. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay despite these difficulties.

“Disappointing”

This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on all reviews.

Response from the owner I find it difficult to believe that a one star review is justified. The cottage has had consistent 5 star reviews since July 2016. Of the 27 reviews left on TripAdvisor, 22 have been 5 star and 4 have been 4 star. The cottage remains in the same condition (or improved). The only difference is that on this weekend we had unseasonably hot weather. This was the bank holiday weekend when we had the spectacular lightning and thunderstorms. The temperatures and humidity was high and I believe the whole area (if not the whole country) was somewhat uncomfortable. The cottage was formerly a Coach House, housing both the coaches and the Coachman and the lay out of the accommodation remains largely as it would have been originally, with the kitchen on the ground floor and the living room, bedroom and bathroom on the 1st floor. This is precisely what was advertised. The photographs provided support the description. I realise that in Australia you would have turned on the air conditioning when the temperatures rose, but few privately owned one bedroom cottages in the UK are fitted with air conditioning and ours in no exception. I am sorry that you were disappointed but I certainly don't feel you were conned. I have no control over the weather.
