Wheelchair accessible condo 100 feet to the ocean!
Fabulous accessible Condo
We were really impressed with this condo. My husband and I stayed there with our son, a paraplegic. The condo was clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities we needed; plenty of sheets, blankets, bath towels, beach towels, blow dryer, kitchen equipment, appliances, cooler, TV, DVD, WiFi, books and games. The only thing we needed was a shower chair and information about how and where to get this were provided. The location was fantastic - near to Lahaina and Kahului but in a quiet area in a small town. Beach access was great, the pool and grounds were well kept, and the facilities (washer/dryer) close and convenient. The owner did a great job communicating before and during our stay, and the one small problem we encountered (broken key) was quickly resolved with little effort on our part. Can\'t say enough good things about this condo and owner. We will definitely rent this property again when we need accessible accommodations and in this complex if we don\'t because the location and complex is great!

Superb Accessibility
I had a great vacation when I stayed at this condo. I needed wheelchair accessibility and this condo is about as good as it gets. A clean unit with modern appliances with remote control.Large doorways and an awesome w/c roll in shower. The bathroom has been well designed with sink and cabinets that allow access from a w/c. I like Maalaea area, it has several places to eat or buy supplies. There is w/c accessible transit busses and a trip to Kihea is only 20 minutes away.

Wonderful vacation in Maui
We really enjoyed our accessible vacation at this condo. The new kitchen is beautiful and stocked with everything I needed to cook. There is a lovely view of the water from the condo along with an entrance to the water. The grounds are kept very nicely. There are banana trees located on the way to the water and the management picks them when ripe and shares with the tenants. We loved the location. It is within walking distance to the harbor. The harbor offers a few restaurants, small grocery store, cruises for snorkeling or sightseeing and shops. The maui ocean center aquarium is also located there. We were kept very busy as there are many things to do and see. If I have to answer the thing I liked the least it would have to be the cold water in the pool. Otherwise it was a great rental property and I would recommend it to anyone and also to someone needing an accessible condo. Thank you Amy and Bruce!

A great locttion
Everything you could ask for and then some. Great amenities, facilities and location. Easy access to anywhere on the island and walking distance to restaurants shopping and the Maui Ocean center.

Best accessible condo possible, with terrific view & access too
For us Bruce\'s place was saving the best for last. We had an accessible condo near Poipu on Kauai the week before. It didn\'t hold a candle to this place. Bruce\'s place is more like staying with friends than renting a condo. The upgrades make it very comfortable. Resident neighbors in the small complex are very friendly and always willing to help with suggestions etc. The previous guests leave the things they didn\'t use up, and so you have many of the basics ( & some delicious surprises)you\'d have to get staying elsewhere. Our daughter who uses a wheelchair is still talking about the huge bathroom off the bedroom. It was stupendous in every way for her need\'s! Bruce called on day three to assure we were happy. It was nice to have a/c, since the other unit we had didn\'t Even though the trade winds did keep the bed room cooler than the other place we stayed. The a/c is in the wall unit in the living/dining room, that runs on a timer. The unit is next to the pool, and a straight shot out to the short narrow dirt/sand path that opens on to the beach. This means everyone going to the pool, sunning area, or beach walks past your patio. We did meet another wheelchair person staying in another unit for part of our visit. They like our set-up much better. The complex is the last one on a dead end road that ends at a county park, with a shower, so you can wash the sand off there too. There are hoses with sprayers by the path and pool to wash sand etc off. It was an excellent location! Easy to get to all parts of the island, and yet quiet and secluded. It is the reason people who live there we spoke too chose the complex.

Perfect Hawaiian get away!
We celebrated our 30th Wedding anniversary in Maui and spent 2 weeks at Bruce and amy\'s Wheelchair accessible Condo. It met our needs perfectly. My husband has a spinal cord injury (T12-L1) and the bathroom set up worked great. There is lots of space for a wheelchair to maneuver and a nice desk set up in front of the patio window (with a view of the ocean). We rented a shower chair from Gammie Healthcare. We also rented a beach wheelchair from them. Their service was great! We loved this spot. It is in the harbor and the ocean is only 100 feet away from the Lani. Every morning we would have our coffee out there enjoying the view, listening to the ocean, you can even see whales breaching from the Lani. There are also miles and miles of beach to walk and explore. The only negative was the steep incline to get onto the beach from the condo was not accessible for a wheelchair or the beach wheelchair, instead we walked down the street and thru the public park next door so my husband could get on the beach. On the plus side the grounds of the condo have cement paths and grass so Mike could get quite close to the beach without getting into the sand. The location of this condo is perfect; you are in the south central part of Maui with easy access to the main highways. You are not in a large town so there are no traffic problems, but you are close to shops and restaurants.

A fabulous, accessible and well maintained condo.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo. Everything was accessible. The information provided by the owner allowed us to enjoy many activities that we otherwise wouldn\'t have tried. The managing couple go out of their way to share information and are extremely friendly and helpful. A great experience.

Fabulous Experience!
Not only was the Bernhardt\'s condo completely accessible for my husband, it was beautiful to boot. I will savor the evenings spent on the lanai, sipping a glass of wine, playing scrabble, listening to the waves roll onto the sand. The oceanfront view, tranquil surroundings and friendly people in the complex made our first trip to Maui perfect. We hope to do it all over again next year!

Magical stay in Maalaea Bay
Our family stayed in this condo for 2 wonderful weeks in June. My husband has progressive MS with significant disability using a large power wheelchair. This was a family celebration of our daughters’ college and high school graduations that I spent over a year planning. I had lots of anxiety about travel with my husband in general and I also worried about having an overall good family vacation experience with so much time/money/expectation invested. The trip was definitely everything we hoped it to be and more; the condo and grounds worked extremely well for my husband. Aside from the needed modifications for a wheelchair guest which worked great for my husband, the rest of us loved the condo, the beach and its location. It was great to just walk/wheel directly outside day or night to see the sun, stars, moon, beach. No stairs or elevator. We spent most evenings relaxing on the lounge chairs on the grass enjoying the views and the colors of the sky. My morning coffee was solo on the grass or on the beach before my daily beach walk. The BBQs were great and everything on the grounds were maintained regularly. I loved this area as it was quieter and less touristy than the other places we visited while there and centrally located to everything else we wanted to do. The tradewinds seemed strong at first but we came to love how they cooled us down, and now that we are back I crave the sound of the palm trees swaying. Other reviewers’ positive comments about the accessibility are all right on, and Bruce and Amy were fantastic in their guidance for our individual needs, both before and during the trip. The challenges of travelling with and caring for someone with disability and medical issues were still significant, but it was well worth our efforts. I was particularly happy that we stayed a full two weeks; it allowed us time to fully relax and still do/see everything we wanted without feeling rushed. Thanks to Bruce’s referrals, here are the disability resources we used: Gammie for the equipment we needed (shower chair and lift), and we used Care Resources for daily caregiving assistance. Both were fantastic. And I want to give an extra shout out to Jennifer and Jordan Wong from Wheelers Van Rentals and their Maui employee, Leilani. They were fantastic and went above and beyond when we had an urgent situation on our last day. The condo managers, Linda and John, were also very concerned and attentive to our needs. Linda even offered to drive me for supplies when she misunderstood and thought we didn’t have our rental car yet.Transportation logistics that might be useful to others: We rented the wheelchair van for 7 of our 14 days and we used Costco car rental to get a regular car for the first 3 and last 4 days – I checked Costco travel site regularly and got the total rental for the regular car down to $150 (thanks to TA Maui forum advice). To get my husband to and from the airport we booked Speedi-shuttle’s accessible shuttle in advance and it was reasonable and worked great. My husband was perfectly comfortable staying in the condo or on the grounds for the days we didn’t have the wheelchair van – sometimes he was there alone for several hours and he was perfectly happy with his ipad and the view :) One evening we walked/wheeled into Ma’alaea village for dinner and that worked fine also. Overall a wonderful, magical family time without that feeling of "compromise" we often have when we have to get the accessible room with a view of the parking lot.

Accessible, beautiful and relaxing
From our initial contact with Bruce a few years ago, he provided excellent information about this condo through his direct communications and his website. When we were able to make a booking, Bruce was extremely helpful, informative and encouraging in all aspects of planning our holiday. Through the information provided, we were easily able to organize accessible transportation and access to medical equipment and care services before we left home. When we arrived at the condo, it was really easy to settle in because everything we had organized was in place. We quickly adapted to the condo environment which was hastened by the welcome from other people who live there year round. We were astounded by the beautiful grounds and accessibility to the front lawn and the beach. The beach stretches for miles towards Kihei allowing for superb walking opportunities. The views of the ocean and Haleakala in the background were spectacular. The pool was clean and allowed for refreshing swims. We quickly learned that a 10 minute walk took us to Ma\'alaea village and harbour that had a few really good restaurants and access to shops and activities such as snorkelling. We liked this area because it seemed quieter and like a more authentic Maui experience than the bigger tourist hotel and resorts found in Kihei and Ka\'anapali. At the same time, because the condo is centrally located, it was a quick drive to get to all parts of the island and to the upcountry area which became one of our favorite places to visit. We spent a day each in Paia and Makapao and two days roaming around Kula country including visits to the Tedeschi winery and the ali\'i Lavender farm. We really enjoyed our guided trip to Hana with Polynesian adventure Tours because it was so informative and they looked after the driving (which was a little frightening at times). We also enjoyed our trip to the Nakawele Blow Hole. For special evenings out, we really enjoyed Mama\'s Fish House and the Old Lahaina Luau.

Paradise Found in Maalaea, Hawaii!
Everything about this condo from its open, airiness to its easy access to pool and ocean was perfect for us. The layout of large rooms and hallways with tiled floors made maneuvering my electric scooter or wheeled walker a pleasure. Large screened doors provided easy access to the lanai where we spent long hours enjoying sounds of surf and viewing the beautifully landscaped property. The master bedroom and bath were well appointed and offered amenities of 5 star hotels. The kitchen contained every convenience and was well stocked with cooking and serving needs. We had more linens than we knew what to do with, including extra pillows and blankets. A few of our favorite things: the constant breeze that swirled throughout the condo, the pool that was so well cared for, the quiet solitude and respect for neighbors, the beautiful ocean views and sunrises, watching the island of Lanai take shape each morning as the clouds lifted. We found paradise in Maalaea, hi. You will, too!

Most wonderful & relaxing vacation ever!
My husband is wheelchair bound due to a severe stroke resulting in limited mobility. This was our first attempt in airline travel. Thanks to Bruce (condo owner,) his suggestions made our travel experience less stressful and a dream come true. The condo has all ammenities necessary to feel comfortable at all hours. Everything you can possibly need in the kitchen was at your fingertips. However, waking up in the morning and opening the curtains to the view of the ocean ~ wow! Falling asleep to the ocean waves was a plus too. My husband enjoyed himself so much that he is already talking about returning in 2 years. God willing, we will. (Thanks, Bruce, for all your guidance!)

Beautiful, quiet, and truly accessible
Thank you, Bruce and amy, for making your Maui home available to others! The combination of a very well-designed condo and Bruce\'s expert advice on where to find all the equipment I needed made this the most genuinely wheelchair-friendly home-away-from-home I have ever found.I travel in my manual chair, and my family uses a patient lift supplemented by strong arms to move me about, so the spacious bathroom, wide doors, and carefully planned arrangement of furniture and fixtures throughout enabled good access. I no longer attempt kitchen duty, so didn\'t test kitchen access from the chair perspective, but the mobile members of the group found it functional and well-equipped for their requirements. The layout of the parking, and the common areas in Makani a Kai are also very wheelchair friendly. My son recommended a beach wheelchair, and offered to supply some of the muscle power, so I had my share of sand and salt water! The condo\'s location next to a public park and several miles of protected coastline gave us lots to explore. From this very central location, we also travelled much of the island aboard a wheelchair accessible van we rented, and found all of the suggestions offered on the website and in subsequent e-mail discussions to be very accurate. And there was so much to choose from. In summary, we loved it here, and it was hard to leave.

Excellent value in a vacation get-away!
The property both inside and out is very well maintained and has just about everything you need for a worry-free vacation. The grounds are beautiful, and the condo is only about 1/2 mile away from the Maalaea Village, harbour, aquarium, whale watching tours, restaurants and a general store (excellent lattes and pastries!). Staying here has been one of the most pleasant vacations we have had, and we shall be returning in the future.

Felt like "Home" and was easily accessible!
Without this unit we would not have been able to make the dream of our 14 year old son with cerebral palsy to go Hawaii a reality. The unit is fully equipped and Bruce and amy had lots of suggestions to make the trip most comfortable. We rented a "Beach Bug" from Gammie Home Care and andrew absolutely loved going to the beach and being "buried" in the sand. The location was perfect for us. Off the beaten path, which we loved, but not far to get to activities and restaurants, etc. Many touches to make you feel right at home in paradise!

Nice kitchen, great, big roll-in shower which my husband who is a quadriplegic loved, we hung out next door at Sugar Beach with the locals and ez access for the beach. it was nice to be just minutes from everywhere, except for Hana which of course takes forever. It was very easy to travel to Maui from the mainland

Fabulous accessible beach condo on Maui!
The condo is wheelchair accessible and in my opinion, at the best location on Maui! Ma\'alaea is close to shopping in Kihei, near the attractions of Lahaina and Wailea, and very close to Ma\'alaea harbor and the wonderful Maui Ocean Center (aquarium). The condo itself is 100 ft or so from the beach, 20 feet from the pool, near handicap parking and the laundry. The floorplan is convenient and open. We used the outdoor barbecue many evenings and were up early to see the sun rise over the volcano. The grounds are well kept and full of beautiful tropical plants. We enjoyed snorkeling off-shore and attempting to ride the gentle surf. My wife uses an electric scooter and was able to get around the condo and complex easily. Bruce (the owner) was very helpful before and during our stay. It was a great place to stay! I highly recommend it!

"simply idyllic"
We have stayed at Makani a Kai several times over the past few years and find the unit and location "simply idyllic"! Unit a-2 is clean, tidy and completely wheelchair accessible while meeting the needs of everyone! Having a grassy area so close to the beach allows the wheelchair restricted person to enjoy the activities going on in the water without the difficulty of maneuvering the sand. Other members of the group have the convenience of the water just outside their door and the fenced pool is wonderful for children! The owners of this condo are very helpful and obliging and the condo complex charming! We will return!

Wonderful Vacation overlooking the beach.
We had a wonderful time in Maui thanks to the beautiful accessible condo supplied by Bruce and amy Bernhardt. The condo was clean and very accessible for a power wheelchair. We were able to have our breakfast/coffee out on the patio every morning enjoying the great ocean breezes. The location of the condo was so convenient to everything. There was great restaurants all around, and many farmers markets supplying fresh fruits and vegetables daily. We loved every part of our stay.

A great place to spend your vacation!
I Christoffer and my two friends came all the way from Sweden to enjoy a nice vacation and explore Maui. I had searched for a wheel chair accessible place to stay online and found this place, it all looked perfect and had all the things that I look for when I\'m searching for accomodation when I travel. I am a quadriplegic and have been in a wheel chair since 2005.When I got there the place exceeded my expectations, the big shower, big bed, great kitchen and just a few steps to the pool and the ocean just outside the window. It all fit my needs with the accessibility perfect.It\'s just a short walk to a great bar where they also serve good food and also there\'s a Carls jr there. (My favorite burger chain in the us).And if you want to do shopping or visit restaurants it\'s just a short drive to Lahaina a nice town to walk and look around in.The information I recieved From Bruce and amy was great and the manager at the place was really helpful with everything. I have traveled a lot and this was one of my favorite trips. I would really recommend this place for everyone who looks for a nice sunny vacation. And a big + for the accessibility for wheel chairs.

Our family reunion on Maui was pure joy for all 19 of us... beyo
Our son and his wife and their 2 teen-age sons loved the condo and especially it\'s location so near the pool, beach, and BBQ grills. The condo is very spacious! Our vacation was a family reunion and 5 condos were rented in the Makani a Kai complex. This condo was the perfect spot to gather for a few meals and birthday celebrations. This family did lots of cooking and baking and found everything they needed. It was their home away from home. The complex is centrally located to all the Maui sights and adventure spots. We all enjoyed every moment and would return in a heartbeat!

Very nice accessible condo, at a reasonable price.
It\'s a very nice and clean condo. The condo complex is very well maintained. You have a great view of the ocean from inside and outside the condo. I liked listening to the waves as I slept. The guest room and the dining room sort of occupy the same space, but we were able to leave to bed unfolded from the wall and still use the table and I could still move around freely in my chair. We never tried to close the guest room doors because then the table would have been in the way. The condo is very accessible and Bruce was very helpful and easy to work with. He was always very eager to answer all of my question. If I ever get back to Maui, I would have no problem staying here again.
—Wes Edwards on 06/16/2012
Awesome first accessible adventure!
This was our son\'s first flight and vacation experience post accident. We were very happy to find the total accessibility of this condo and the proximity to the water. It was a great experience for him and Bruce answered all my (many) questions prior to our stay so we knew just what to expect. The lanai got much use as the view from there was beautiful.

Accessibility and so much more...
This condo is perfect for those with physical disabilities. It is roomy and level so getting around on the tile floor is a breeze. It is also open and bright and part of a lovely complex where the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It is private and quiet if you are looking for a slower pace than the large resorts. The condo is also stocked with just about everything you could need including spices, condiments, storage containers and tons of dishes and towels to mention a few. The resident managers were very friendly and made us feel completely at home. They shared tons of stories, brought us treats like yummy mangos and told us all about the plants on the grounds. We enjoyed them thoroughly. We rented a beach wheelchair from Gammie so we were able to get my husband in and out of the pool everyday - it was one of the highlights of our trip. The condo is centrally located so you are close to everything - we made several trips to Kahului for groceries and activities and it was only about 10 minutes away. Kihei and Lahaina are also close at hand. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family.

Beautiful place to relax.
Perfect accessible condo for any disabled person. I\'m a C6-C7 quadriplegic using a manual chair and the entire area was ground level smooth. Centrally located on the island I found was a bonus. Great breeze in Maalaea bay everyday.Loved the friendly folks that manage and that live in the complex. Linda brought us many mangos that were very "ono."Meaning delicious. The pool was 30 feet from the lanai and quite refreshing. Beware of the thorns on the beach area just east of the complex. If you get a flat, the bike shop in Paia patched my tube in 15 minutes.White sandy beach and clean water - what a place!Highly recommended. I shall return.

Perfect spot for visiting Maui
We stayed here as part of our Maui vacation and found its central location perfect for enjoying the many activities we were interested in. This condo is in a small quiet 2-story complex close to the Maui Ocean Centre and the harbour from which many tours depart. The ground-floor condo itself, roomy and well-appointed, is set back a bit from the ocean so it\'s sheltered from the wind. You can swim or snorkel right in front of the property or walk on the beautiful sand a long way in both directions; the views are stunning.

Accessible Maui Condo
While at amy and Bruce\'s amazing accessible condo rental in Maui, we kept reminding ourselves that being there was real ... we found our little place in paradise! The condo is in a nice, quiet location and has a great lawn that butts up to the beach (about 20 yards from the condo). It is very relaxing. We spent many hours outside watching the surf, reading, relaxing and snorkeling. It was windy, but we welcomed it ... It was our cooling system :-) Able-bodied people can snorkel at the beach just outside the condo, which is great! I went swimming as often as possible at the Kihei aquatic Center - a free public pool with a lift. It is a beautiful and very well maintained outdoor facility. Maalaea Harbor was being worked on, so I was not able to get my wheelchair on a boat. Next year. This has been an amazing vacation! We\'re coming back next year! You have to see this place for yourself. It\'s fantastic! Wish list: A lift at the condo pool. It would be great to be able to swim at the condo pool, but there is no lift to get those with paralysis into the water. Unfortunately, I was not able to find an organization to take me swimming in the ocean. There seems to be a need for an accessible sports organization in Maui.

Perfect accessible condo in paradise
As a wheelchair user, accessibility is a huge concern of mine when going to new places. Bruce\'s condo is very accessible and is located in one of the best spots on Maui. Best Vacation Ever!
If you\'re a disabled traveller you know how hard it is to find a rental that truly is wheelchair accessible. Bruce\'s condo lives up to expectations with an accessible bathroom and wheel-in shower in the master bedroom ensuite. It is a beautiful, private location right on Maalea Bay with a white sandy beach right outside the door. There is also a private pool and a common use BBQ. It is centrally located and not far from any of the tourist attractions. My brother and I stayed for two weeks in 1992 and still talk about the best vacation ever. Since then Bruce has updated the interior (check out the pics). It was so much better than a hotel and better value too. Bruce is in a wheelchair so he knows what "accessible" really means. Maui is beautiful, the people are friendly and everything is wheelchair accessible. There are wheelchair cabs to get you from the airport and wheelchair van rentals and medical equipment suppliers. If you want a comfortable tropical vacation try Bruce\'s condo in Maui and you won\'t want to leave.

Perfect Condo For a Wheelchair User
My family and I came to Maui in the Fall of 2010 for my sister\'s wedding and we had an amazing time. It was the first time I had been to the island after being paralyzed and I was a bit nervous the time spent there may not be as enjoyable as it was when I was able bodied but that was not at all the case! I really think the condo\'s accessibility made the trip a lot easier and more enjoyable. The bathroom was set up perfectly for someone who uses a shower chair which is one of the most important things to me when I travel. I\'m so glad that we had discovered this condo and stayed there instead of a busy hotel. It was also in a wonderful location. The condo was nice and clean. Absolutely no complaints about this place!

Perfect Extended Family Gathering Place!
I learned about Bruce and amy\'s condo rental in the book, Accessible Vacations. Our extended family\'s long-planned Maui vacation was in doubt when a family member was paralyzed in an accident...but once I connected with Bruce and amy, we were able to plan a vacation that worked well for all 14 members of our family!! The open layout and accessibility features of Bruce and amy\'s condo worked well for my brother-in-law, who uses a wheelchair, and there was plenty of room for the other 4 members of his family. The patio outside of this condo became a gathering place for the whole family as it was close to the pool and the bar-b-que area!! Bruce and amy also helped us connect with two other owners of accessible condos in the same complex, so we were all free to visit each other! Our family enjoyed grilling in the bar-be-que area in the evening and hanging out by the ocean and the pool after spending the day exploring other areas of Maui! It is a beautiful and peaceful location, and we appreciated the boogie boards that Bruce and amy and the other owners left for us to use! Bruce and amy helped our family find accessible activities - kayaking, Maui Tropical Plantation, and a snorkel cruise - and helped us locate a beach wheelchair! For a family with a newly disabled member, this assistance was so valuable!!! I an grateful to Bruce and amy for their assistance in making my parent\'s 50th anniversary dream come true, and I enthusiastically recommend renting this condo unit and staying at Makani a Kai!

Their efforts to provide each guest with resources for medical equipmant rental, plus other fun accessible things to do made it very easy to plan a great trip. The place is at a great location on the island, which makes it easy to get to see so many places.Maui is beautiful and this condo is a truly great place to stay while there!

Most amazing Experience Ever
I stayed at Bruce\'s condo for 11 days and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. We arrived late at night from New York and had no problem parking and getting into the condo. The condo itself was extremely clean and well stocked with kitchen supplies, beach toys and towels and everything else you could think of. The grounds are kept immaculate including the bbqs on the beach. We traveled with a person in a wheelchair (C5 Quad) and the condo was perfectly laid out, spacious and completely accessible. We were a party of 6 including a child and we were comfortable for our entire stay. There is also laundry on the premises which is nice after being on the beach all day. There is not a single negative attribute about this place. We are returning next summer for our wedding and renting many condos in this complex.

Aloha!! This condo rental was exceptional for wheelchair accessibility with magnificent views of the ocean and has the most desirable location for any events. Bruce was an expert communicator in relaying information about the most accessible activities and answered all of the questions we had. This truly was a "vacation in Paradise" for us and we highly recommend staying in this immaculate, well equipped condo. Would we come back? Absolutely!! It couldn\'t have been more perfect! Mahalo!!

Great access!
For access I check things out closely before I arrive. Bruce answered all questions quickly. Very accessible unit. Easy access (50 feet) to ocean\'s edge. Very private with small pool and clean barbeque area. Very quiet. Lots of room for a family or two couples. I liked this much better than larger complexes that stretch for miles. Also, easy access to freeways when visiting other parts of the island.

Highly recommended!
We found the condo to be well equipped, clean and comfortable. The grounds are nicely kept and secure. The location is convenient and provides miles of beach walking and plenty of opportunity for water activities. This is an excellent spot for anyone wanting to avoid the regular tourist commotion.

Accessible Maui Get away
This was my first visit to Maui and I was truly impressed by the condo and how it is set-up for wheelchair access. I am a C5/6 quad and the lay out of the condo and the grounds met my needs very well. Maui itself proved to be very accessible and I explored ocean kayaking, accessible helicopter rides, snorkeling, touring the country side and much more. Everything I needed was there. Both Bruce and amy were very accommodating in answering my questions and providing fantastic ideas for what to while in Maui. It was a true tropical vacation.I tried to book again for this year, but was unable to find the dates that met my holiday schedule. The fact that condo is so well visited is a testament to how well it meets peoples needs.I hope to return next year.Cheers!

Maui, the Celebration Destination!
The last vacation our family took was when we stayed at Bruce and amy\'s condo on Maui in 2007. It was an amazing trip! Now planning our next vacation, we took a family vote and all easily agreed to go back to the same condo in Maui! This next vacation is to celebrate high school graduation for both kids, and our 20th wedding anniversary. The condo and location were excellent, there is privacy for everyone, the accessible features were perfect, and Maui was definitely fun and relaxing for everyone -- like a paradise! Thank you for sharing your home!

Super Handicapped accessible
This was our second visit to this condo and have tried to come back several times. Our timing has just always been off. This is the most wheelchair friendly place we have ever visited. You\'ll love it!

home away from home
This condo had exactly what we needed - accessibility features; great quiet location yet close enough to everything on the island we wanted to see; pool and the beach right outside the patio door and room for six. The condo has the extras that you would not expect - a bookcase with a good selection of reading material for when you are relaxing; games and a BBQ that you are welcome to use.We have been there twice and look forward to the next opportunity we can go again!

We had a great time and want to return.
My family and I have rented Bruce and amy\'s condo several times and hope Nrither my wife nor I have any idea when we last rented Bruce and amy\'s condo, sorry. The date I entered is probably way incorrect.> to do so again; The condo suits our needs very well, only downside is that> the beach isn\'t very accessible from the condo; The condo complex has a> very nice pool with a good outdoor gas grill, and the entire complex is very well maintained; The condo is very complete and provided us [ wife, me, and 2 sons , one in a manual w/c with a wonderful vacation; The condo provides convenient access to Kihei for shopping, and also convenient access to the many Maui sights, Lahaina, the Maui Ocean Center, and, etc.>There is a great view of the ocean from the lanai, and we ate most of our meals on the lanai. We highly recommend the condo.

We\'ll be back!
We have stayed at the condo twice and we absolutely love it there. It\'s right on the beach and we enjoy listening to the surf especially as it lulls us to sleep. The set-up for me, as a wheelchair user, is great. I love the roll-in shower and the fact that it\'s on the first floor allows me to go outside easily. The designated disabled parking spot is ideal. Out teenage son used your boogie boards and we appreciate all of the beach towels. One of my favorite things to do is sit by the beach with my morning cup of coffee and watch the sunrise. The pool is very nice and is kept up with daily cleanings. I like the fact that there is a manager on site and he was friendly and available. The property ground are beautiful with lots of flowers and the grass is well-kept. The location works well for us because it\'s quiet and there is a park next door - we don\'t feel crowded in. Being in between Lahaina and Kihei is ideal as we are close to shopping and activities. The first time we went to Maui we did all of the tourist things we could fit into 2 weeks. The second time we went, again for 2 weeks, we were never bored even though we did more relaxing. There are lots of great restaurants to choose from and we also grilled burgers on the grills provided.

Great condo, wonderful location, awesome owners...
This condo is as wheelchair accessible as a person could ask for. It is close to being as comfortable as my own house. My wife and I were on our honeymoon, and the condo and setting were perfect. We loved it and will definitely stay there again.

nice place to stay

Outstanding accessible condo in great central Maui location
We stayed at the condo for a week and had a great time! The accessibility features of the place are top notch. If you use a wheelchair you will not be disappointed with the amount of space throughout. We really liked the renovated kitchen and huge roll in shower.

Perfect for wheelchair users and their families
We had a wonderful time in Maalaea. The condo itself is very well appointed for the wheelchair traveler with great roll in shower, large bathroom and tile throughout. There is a desk that is easy to roll under, also. The only difficulty my husband encountered was in the kitchen, which was difficult for him to navigate in his large power chair - might be easier if you are in a manual chair. It was fantastic to be so near the pool.Maalaea itself is the perfect locale -so central and it seems to be about 20 minutes to most everything on the island. But you dont have to go anywhere - the beach is gorgeous with turtles swimming by every evening. Lots of action for surfers, snorkelers and body boarders if that is your thing. Bruce and amy were extremely responsive and helpful.

Peace and Tranquility
I can\'t say enough good things about this beautiful spot. We all loved being there. It was great for Brien (who needed the wheelchair accessibility it offered) to our little grandson who loved the water but who also was able to stay contained in the area it afforded. The size and closeness to the water was exceptional. But, what we really liked was that it was so quiet there in Maalaea yet close enough to the other busy cities around (when you wanted to go shopping or explore more areas). The suite had everything we needed and even a little more. The only thing that Brien missed was better accessibility to the water for him...close enough but he could not figure out how to enjoy the water and not transport back tons of sand. Next time we would have to look into a beach wheelchair. Also have to mention the barbeques that we used and the pool as well as a handy laundry room (just have lots of quarters handy|). As an added bonus, we were able to phone home to check on things (included). Great idea having comments and flyers of things to do in Maui. We would love to go back!!
—Brien and Caren on 03/31/2013
excellent - the setting and unit are great for any visitor, and
Although this unit is at least 20 years old, it has been updated and well maintained. Additionally, the grounds are extremely well maintained. It is excessible, but wheelchair bound visitors will have to secure some extra equipment according to their specific needs. The unit is well supplied with basic needs, very clean, and very safe.Wheelers cannot access the ocean without assistance, but they can be very close. The location close to Ma\'alaea Harbor where there are excellent dining, shopping & excursion opportinites is a big plus.Frankly, if it were not for the plane ride, it would be a pleasure to return every year.

Ocean views, trade winds, & privacy.
The accessible parking, laundry room are conveniently located a short distance from the front door. Nearly everywhere in the condo one can hear the ocean waves gently crashing against the shore and feel the cool trade winds. One can see the ocean from the living/dining room and lanai. The condo is located right next to a small park and a national wildlife refuge area; therefore, there is minimal traffic on this section of the beach.

great accessible condo in Maui
Maalaea is a great location. The condo is set up really well for a person using a wheelchair and is right next to the ocean. One drawback is that it is right next to the pool and there is a bit of foot traffic right outside the lanai, but it was much less that I thought it would be. The condo complex is pretty quiet and laid back and the beach is nice, although the surf can at times be a bit rough and not great for swimming (this is true anywhere in Hawaii). The condo is well stocked with books on the islands, and information on things to do that are accessible. It is just about impossible to find a truly wheelchair accessible place to stay on Maui without going to the very high end hotels. This place is a real find.

Lovely, accessible condo with great views and value
We had the pleasure of staying at the Maui accessible Condo for a week. The condo was spacious and easy to maneuver for my daughter, who is in a manual wheelchair. We rented a shower chair and beach wheelchair that were waiting for us at the condo when we arrived. The condo furnishings are simply lovely and very Hawaiian. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook meals. It was wonderful cooking breakfast and looking out at the surfers outside our window! The complex is very quiet, and we enjoyed all the amenities, including the pool, beach, grills, and laundry, which were so convenient. Dealing with the owner was very easy, and he did a fantastic job of instructing us in advance of our arrival and providing us with information about the area. If you are looking for a lovely place to stay within 20 minutes of all the major resorts, a nearly private beach, all for a very reasonable rate, this is the place to stay! One word of advice: if you need to do laundry, bring lots of quarters! There is no change machine.

The weather and location was great. Hawaii at its best.
The only negative was the bars in the bathroom. they are not set up for a right handed person. We solved this problem with a rope that Bruce had provided. Everything esle was wonderful. and we had glorious time just enjoying our stay in Maui.

a Peaceful Whale watching Retreat
Everything was very wheelchair friendly at the condo. Loved the big master bathroom with role in shower and such a bonus to have a patio beside the pool with an ocean view. We could easily walk to the local restaurants, shopping and aquarium. The hosts we\'re very very helpful with contacts for rental vehicles/equipment/and hot spots to see on the island. I would highly recommend this place for a wheelchair friendly Island Retreat.

wonderful
the service was excellent...everything i needed was right there. the home is comfortable, but not too "busy", making it perfect for wheelchairs. the bedrooms and bathrooms are excellent...no problem with being all accessible. i love being right on the ocean, and the grounds and pool are well kept. being close to the harbour and the aquarium and restaurants are just wonderful. i can\'t think of a least "like"...all good.

We love Maui
I am a paraplegic and in a manual wheelchair. We rented a car and like the parking stall you have next to the entrance. The condo is easy to get in and out of and the location is great. The master bathroom works great for me and I used a lawn chair with a towel on the seat to shower myself. However the bed was/is too high and I needed help to get into bed (wish it was lower). Also no lift into the pool so couldn\'t use that or stroll along the beach because it is not easy or accessible in a wheelchair. We liked being able to wheel up to the Oceanic centre, shops and restaurants, so that was fun.Would probably return and stay for a week (instead of two) next time.Bruce and amy we do appreciate what you have done for people with disabilities tho! Cheers!

Manager Response
Hi Sherri Glad you had such a good time on Maui that you want to come back and for talking about specific issues at the condo, both good and bad. Bed height is always an issue for wheelchair folks, either it is too high or to low and occassionally just right so the best I can do is tell people the actual measurements. The bed actually is too low for me to transfer into my showerchair so during my personal stays I increase the height and put the bed up on a 2x4 blocks. We\'ll talk before your next trip and will figure out something to help you. Glad you improvised a shower chair by using a lawn chair but medical equipment such as shower benchs, patient lifts, shower commodes are easily rented on island from Gammie Home Care. I\'ll talk to you soon and thank you again for your candid review. Aloha Bruce
A wonderful time and place
This is a small condo complex right on the beach. There are quite a few year round residents - all of whom were awesome. We rented a van and stayed for two weeks. I will go back to Maui again and when I do I hope that this condo is available. The kitchen was clean and functional - just not extremely well stocked in the way of pots, and cooking tools. The master bedroom is big enough to use a hoyer - we did have to put the bed up on blocks to use the lift. The roll in shower/bath worked great.

Hi Peter Thank you for the positive review and hopefully we do get you back soon. Since your stay in 2007 Amy and I have stayed at the condo ourselves more so we have supplemented the kitchen with more pots and pans and other useful kitchen gadgets. We are currently at the condo so I measured the clearance under the bed and it is 7 inches. Glad you had such a good time. Aloha Bruce
Great view and accessibility
Wonderful condo for our disabled son and us. Great roll-in shower. Nice patio for relaxing and looking at the pool and ocean. We\'ve stayed several times for a week and always enjoyed our stay.
