This is my second time staying here and I couldn't be happier. A cozy cabin among green trees set right above a river with a swimming hole. You can just sit on the back deck and enjoy the sound of the river or relax in the four person hot tub! Great wood stove inside, gas grill outside, bonfire pit on the river. Everything I can think of is here for a relaxing break. Pretty much everything you can think of is provided. All you need is food and beer! There wifi too to stay connected if you want.

My husband and I stayed for about 5 days in April 2014 to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, and rock river cottage did NOT disappoint. The cottage was cozy and quaint and the owner Liz was so sweet and made us feel so welcome. It was chilly and raining most of the week but the fireplace and hot tub kept us nice and warm. Liz makes sure the place has everything that anyone could ever need, all we needed to bring was our food and wine. A perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. We can't wait to stay again. Thanks Liz!!

My boyfriend and I decided to rent this little cabin for a romantic get-a-way, while he was visiting from Spain on Christmas break. He had just moved out there 4 months ago, and this was the first time we had seen each other since. As soon as we arrived I knew it was going to be perfect! The front is just adorable, and then as you walk in it just keeps getting better! I really loved the layout:: The layers of floors were interesting and very well done; nothing felt too cramped or out of place. Loved the bedroom over looking the living room, and the just-to-perfect kitchen for 2! Everything was extremely clean, organized, and smelled wonderful. We really enjoyed having our meals in the dining room, relaxing by the cozy fireplace, and soaking in the hot tub. This place is fully equipped! It literally had everything we could possibly need, including a grill! We enjoyed a nice meal fresh off the grill, even in freezing temperatures. The hot tub was also a perfect addition. Soaking at night in the freezing cold, watching as the snow flakes fell, and looking up at the stars was truly romantic. This was certainly one of the best vacation I have ever had and I would highly recommend this get-a-way to any couple seeking a little time together, away from your day-to-day lives. We were close enough to town to access everything we needed, yet secluded enough to feel like we were very alone and at peace. The rushing sound of the river was amazing to hear anytime we were outside, so pretty and calming.. and the views were amazing! Frozen and covered in snow, we spent time exploring along the rivers edge and saw some incredibly beautiful scenery. It was an absolutely wonderful time and we are aiming to return again! Liz was wonderful, very helpful, and responsive thru the whole process and that is something we really appreciated. Thank you Liz! I hope we can return again some day soon!

Great anniversary Experience!!!
My husband and I needed a relaxing getaway from NYC for our 1st year anniversary. We found exactly what we were looking for. We cooked every day and shopped for stakes, salmon, tuna and vegetables at the nearby town's co-op. The food is amazing. You can really taste the difference. We grilled every night for the 3 nights we were there. The cabin and the river were also amazing. We are looking to come back and visit in the summer 2014 for another great experience. The nearby mountains looked beautiful. We rented a boat and went fishing as well as hiked the bald mountain nearby. The scenery from the top was amazing. If you are looking to get away from busy life and really love nature this is the perfect spot. We also made a fire and relaxed in front of the river. My dog had the time of her life. Liz is a beautiful person and really made us feel at home. The Cottage is supper cozy and the hot tub is great after a long hike. There is also a beach nearby. I have told family and friends about the Rock River Cottage and would 100% recommend it to others.
Thanks Liz for a wonderful experience. We look forward to visiting again soon.
I am so Blessed to have you as guests....and ALL of you are wonderful over many years. Thank you so much for your patronage and kind words. This makes our New Year upcoming very Happy indeed! All the Best, The Dery Family....Liz, Madeleine and Stephen

"Made me want to move to Vermont!!"

I have been to the cottage twice, and will be returning again. Spent 4 days in July and 4 days in October- so I've experienced two seasons there and look forward to seeing what winter and spring have to offer. The cottage is charming, comfortable, private and has everything you would need and more. The setting on the river is wonderful! Being an ocean/beach guy, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of things there is to do recreationally at the river. The towns of Newfane, Townsend, and Brattleboro are so close and there is so much to do, indoors, outdoors etc. And when it comes to the hospitality of Liz and her family, I only have accolades for them. If you have not been and are thinking of going...check it out! You'll be happy you did Read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our 1 year anniversary. We were looking for something private and relaxing, and we definitely found it!
When we first got to Vermont there was a little mix-up as we did not yet have the address and had the wrong number for Liz. She has two numbers so just make sure you have both if you need to contact her.
Once we figured out the address and arrived at the cottage we were happy about the choice we had made! First let me say that yes it's a small cottage but it's incredibly cozy, clean and absolutely perfect for a couple that is looking to spend some quality time together away from the craziness of everyday life. We even brought our two dogs and never felt the space was too small for us.
Liz has really made it so you feel at home and has literally thought of everything. There were a few things we forgot to bring but found them all at the cottage. From face lotion to awesome old videos to can openers...it was all there! The hot tub was also a nice extra! The river right below us was crystal clear and ideal for our dogs as they love to swim. If the water was a little warmer (our visit was in the Spring) we would have joined them! There's also a fire pit with chairs down by the water for chilly nights.
I read some reviews about nude people on the beach...the small beach area directly below the cottage was very private and we didn't see anyone else down there. If you walk further down the path to the swimming holes there will be other people but that is to be expected as its not a private area.
The location is great too since it is only 10 min from Brattleboro and 5-10 min from places in Newfane. Liz has a sheet of all this info waiting for you at the cottage.
Before we left, Liz definitely made it up to us for the initial mix up, with a kind gift, which was greatly appreciated! All in all, we had a wonderful getaway and will definitely be returning!
Harley brings up a very important point... If yours is a last minute booking, please be sure not to head up without directions, but if you do, all of my correspondence contains my home address, which is on GPS. The cottage is not on GPS. As explained in the information I send, directions and check-in inofrmation are generally sent with confirmation that the deposit is received. If you are to arrive before the deposit, please be sure to ask for directions at least a day in advance.

"Great Weekend Getaway!"

My husband and I and another couple stayed for a long weekend at the cottage. It is a convenient location in Vermont, close to interstate 90 and only about 35-40 minutes to Mt Snow and Mt Stratton. The cottage itself is adorable, cozy living room, with pull out couch and a lofted (but still private) upstairs bedroom. The hot tub was the best, after a long day of snowboarding. The cottage has all amenities you would need. Its on the small side for four people, but there was plenty of room for my liking. Liz the owner is very easy going and accommodating. The cottage is on a dead end road, which is great, the only downside is that the main road off the dead end road was busy, and a little too busy to walk the dog, so we would take him to other places nearby to run around. In the Wintertime, the snowmass prevents access to the beach and the path along the river. Since the beach is below the cottage, it's a great place for dogs to play and swim safely while you relax by the river, accessible April through November for sure!
