Ideally situated in the picturesque village of Wolsingham, in Weardale, gateway to the Durham Dales, Corner Cottage is perfect for couples looking for a peaceful and relaxing break in County Durham and further afield. Stone built in the early 1800's a charming one bedroom cottage, furnished to an exceptionally high standard. Weardale, in the Durham Dales is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beanty. Ideally located for Durham City, a World heritage Site, the Northern Dales and Northumberland.

Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland (10 miles) and home to "Kynren" a show depicting 2,000 years of Englands history performed in an open air amphitheatre July to September is a must see attraction.

The cottage is deceptive as it provides a large amount of space for two guests with all modern facilities, retaining original features such as exposed beams in the lounge and the original cast iron fireplace in the bedroom. There is gas central heating throughout provided by a combi boiler.

The comfortable lounge is tastefully furnished and carpeted with a leather sofa and reclining armchair, exposed beams, gas fire, Smart TV, DVD Player and free WI-FI.

Step up into the dining room which has a solid oak dining table seating four and an oak console table with matching mirror and a Sony Hi-FI system, MP3 Player.

Stairs lead up to the bedroom and bathroom.

The well equiped kitchen, overlookng the garden, has modern units, tiled floor, breakfast bar and bar stools, Bosch electric oven, gas hob, microwave, slow cooker, dish washer, fridge freezer and a Bosch Tassimo coffee machine.

The bedroom has an extremely comfortable Super King bed which can be converted into 2 x 3ft twin beds. All bed linen is provided. The bedroom also has the lovely original original fireplace.

The generously spaced bathroom, overlooking the countryside and fields, is part tiled with a quality modern bathroom suite with electric shower over bath, heated towel rail and solid white oak flooring. Towels and dressing gowns are provided along with complimentary toiletries.

At the rear of the cottage garden furniture is provided to sit and enjoy the relaxing and peacefull enclosed walled garden (shared with the owners) overlooking the pond and countryside.

There is ample free parking next to the village green a 1 minute walk from the cottage.

Getting around

The most convenient way to see the sights is by car. However there is a good bus service to the nearby towns of Crook (15 mins) Bishop Auckland (30 mins). Both have well know supermarkets. The Weardale Railway, a Heritage line, follows the path of the River Wear. Wolsingham has church services held in the Parish, Methodist, Baptist and RC Church. If you family tree includes Weardale ancestors you should make The Weardale Museum and High House Chapel you first port of call. Their genealogy database includes over 60,000 'Weardale People' to find your ancestors. It could save you many hours of research.

Interaction with guest

A few days prior to arrival Jean will contact guests advising them on directions to the cottage and key collection, from Jean who lives next door, and aproximate arrival time Upon arrival Jean or Ramsay always welcome their guests personally and give a short tour of the cottage. We do not disturb our guests but if guests require assistance or information throughout their visit Jean and Ramsay are on hand as they live next door. Bathrobes, bedding and towels are provided along with a selection of toiletries and welcome pack.

“Fantastic Weekend”

Just returned from a fantastic weekend stay at The Corner Cottage. We received a very warm welcome on arrival,cottage was spotless with lots of nice little touches ie box of Foxes biscuits,milk and virtually everything else you can ask for. The cottage itself was modern,cosy with original features remaining. Nothing was to much trouble,with Jean or Ramsay on hand should they be required. Very close amenities and beautiful surrounding walks in a lovely village. We highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing weekend.
