This lovely home away from home is a beautiful villa in a small town about 45 min from the Rioja wine region. The villa was beautiful! We had about 10 people and could have had more but if so, we would not have all had our own bathroom. So it was the perfect size for us. Jose and his wife were very gracious hosts, they even cooked us dinner one night! Jose spent time to tell us where all the attractions were and sights to see, even providing maps which was nice. The villa has 2 washing machines but it took our clothes a while to dry due to the time of year we were visiting. The fireplace was a nice treat on the colder of the 7 nights. We enjoyed the park just across the drive way and the small stream that flows next to the home, really making you feel like royalty! The town is small and the business hours are limited so make sure to get your groceries early in the day. The room we stayed in had a smaller bed but we had a balcony which was nice. The window shutters really helped with a good night’s sleep. The only down fall is the drive to a majority of vineyards are a little further away than we had hoped, but still doable. Thank you Jose, we enjoyed our stay! XO

We are a group of friends who travel every four years to experience a European wine area together. This year was our fourth trip and our destination was the Rioja Wine area. Villa Liquidambar was chosen because of it's proximity to vineyards and it could accommodate 5 couples with each having their own bedroom and bathroom. It is located a short drive from Logrono, which was having it's wine festival while we were there.
Our hosts, Jose and Paloma (and their darling dog, Bingo), couldn't have been more helpful! They suggested we purchase our food supplies in the town, across the bridge and up the hill. We gathered up our bags and walked to the butcher and green grocery, where we got everything we needed for our kitchen. The people in the town were very friendly and helpful and all of the food was fresh and delicious. Since none of us were terrific Spanish speakers, they helped us communicate with directions, the post office, food items, and the workings of the Villa. The Villa was nicely appointed with all the supplies we needed to get started for our week, and was well-kept. We also enjoyed a fire in the fireplace one evening and grilled our meat on the outdoor grill.
Jose and Paloma stopped by to make sure things were running smoothly and gave the couples who wanted to take a bike ride several suggestions on interesting trails. They suggested we visit the Lecea Wine Cave, which some of us did, and it was really unique, and tasty. They also prepared dinner for us one evening featuring traditional regional fare, which was delicious.
We would highly recommend this Villa to larger groups who want to enjoy a holiday together in a peaceful, pastoral setting, and who enjoy interacting with the local residents, like we did!
