Description

PERFECT LOCATION, AMAZING SURROUNDINGS, STUNNING HOME.....

From the moment you cross the threshold and enter the grand salon of this historical monument -- now our home, you're transported to a way of life rare to find anymore.

The soaring beamed ceilings, the 7 foot wood burning fireplace greet you and your friends with warmth, charm and tres chic comfort.

As you enter the grand salon and dining area, you'll rest in sumptuous sofas and chairs from Roche Bobois.

Their collection Les Provinciales is rarely seen in the USA, but here in France it's a combination of comfort, ease and elegance.

The large Samsung flat screen TV beams in programming from the BBC, NBC, and CNN.

Tucked in a 'petit coin' just off the living room is a spectacular 3 story open atrium. Originally part of the barn structure, it's now housing a dramatic 7 foot long fountain, seating for coffee + petit dejeuner or on a warm summers' night a glass of cool rose under the stars.

Glance skyward and you'll see the original beams which housed the various floors of the barn, including a hayloft. All that's left now is an open view of the non stop Provencal sky -- true blue.

Why our home?

Our village offers the best of artisanal experiences. Savor flavors that will take your breath away. Hike the hills of the Luberon, sample local goat cheese, visit olive oil artisans, and experience markets full of fresh flavors, foods and excitement. The vineyards tell the ever changing stories as seasons shift. Striking colors, flavors and the scents make our corner of Provence and particularly our village a memorable experience. If shopping is your hobby, everyday is a 'shop-ortunity' in Provence. Cultural visits to Avignon, Aix en Provence and Roman ruin are easily managed from our central location.

Our home is the perfect respite from the stresses of the office and 'back home.'

Featured in the French magazine; Maison et Decors, our home is an official historic monument. All aspects of its' appearance are under the watchful eye of our Mairie. After the French revolution, Ansouis remained 'loyal' to the royals.

If you enjoyed the film 'A Good Year,' you'll find yourself walking in the footsteps of Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard as many scenes were filmed in neighboring villages.

'French Kiss' with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline shot several key scenes in a nearby vineyard.

We have airconditioning systems on each floor of the house.

The house decorated in casual chic. My culinary background and work for a former Food Network and current Michelin chef in the USA, means that our kitchen is fully loaded. It is perfect for cooking great meals with friends. ... 5 unique bedrooms, all with American size towels and 400+ thread count luxury linens.

Need to be connected? We have satellite tv with CNN, CNBC, BBC, etc. We've installed a permanent 'internet' center with free DSL, and a USA laptop/keyboard. The laptop is Skype enabled for free calls 'skype to skype.' iPod docking stations and chargers.

Wifi is free and password protected.

You can directly work with a private chef whom will come to the house, or deliver prepared meals directly to the kitchen door.

This is a big roomy house, with 3 levels, and lots of airy rooms, and high ceilings. King and Queen size (comfortable) beds. Nooks and alcoves to read, and nap in. There's plenty of private space for your group - so that friends and family aren't tripping over each other.......

...Upstairs there is a Large Roof terrace with outdoor dining and BBQ, and mini prep kitchen. Living room is superb, with a 7 foot wood burning fireplace!.... On the ground floor we have an small Private garden with breakfast table - the perfect place for your cafe creme and croissant with the blue Provencal sky peeking over you......inside there is large marble dining table for dinner parties.

Ansouis (An-Swee) is officially classified as One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.

Less than 45 minutes to Isle sur sorgue, 25 min to Aix en Provence, Apt, less than one hour to Cassis, Marseille, Avignon, and Arles. Day trip to the Camarque or Cote D'azur, visit the wineries at Chateauneuf du Pape and Cote du Rhone! Hike, Bike, Hot air balloon, visit boutique wineries, dine in the Michelin star restaurants which are in our

Swimming? - Etang de la Bonde -- it's clear spring water, and a 5 minute drive from the house.

Everything is here in our little village, and at night it's peaceful and quiet. You can walk 2 minutes to the new 'hot restaurant' La Closerie, where a certain author (his latest book was made into the feature film referenced above) dines regularly or drive 10 minutes to Lourmarin for a variety of dining - from cafe casual to Michelin star. It takes 30 seconds (if you walk really slowly) to get to our Boulangerie! The chocolate croissants are sinful.

Our house is the perfect haven to de-stress, and immerse yourself in AUTHENTIC French village life.

Response from the owner Thanks and we're super happy that the house worked out for you, especially with 3 teenagers. And I know the heat wave was in full force and that the air-conditioning upstairs on the top floor kept your sons cool and comfortable -- at 70 degrees, even though it was 103 outside (it's really not normally this hot here!) We'd love to have you come back and stay again.....We have a special rate for repeat clients too!

Response from the owner After 17 years of renting our home, with hundreds of very happy clients, it was bound to happen that we would have a week where situations seemingly went awry and we’d get a ‘bad review’. We clearly have teachable moments to learn from here, as well as clearing up misunderstandings, misstatements and making things right for all parties involved and for future guests. I have shared the review with the individuals referred to; our new greeter and our long time construction/repair manager – albeit their version of the events may reflect differing accounts of what has been portrayed. Even though everyone spoke English -- nuances and an attempt at humor clearly fell flat – that’s not okay. It’s important for us to learn from this guests review and not rest on our laurels of 5 star reviews. What actions can we take to make our next guests have great experiences? Moreover, with global warming and record heat during this visitors stay it’s time for us to upgrade our upstairs air conditioners (yes they really are air conditioners, and cost many times the price of a fan) to more powerful BTU’s. We have made a decision to add additional insulation to our top floor roofing, replace the existing skylights with ones using reflective glass and blinds and install a large Fujitsu air con unit with 18,000 BTU’s. This large system, which we use on the ground floor of our home is extremely powerful. It wasn’t broken as reported and was on full force during the stay. The condensation tube was leaking and was remedied 2 days after this guest checked out. The team did want to repair the drip tube during the stay, but circumstances and misunderstandings prevented this from happening. We never limit – never -- how cool you can set any of the air conditioners –please be assured of this. There is no way I can limit or lock in the cooling levels. Nor would I ever want to. After this guest departed, I found that a heater fan was on in full force in the master bedroom suite, and that the air conditioner unit on the top floor had been moved so that it was uncoupled from it’s exhaust hose – so that hot air was pumping back into the rooms. I can only imagine that this would have compounded this guests’ discomfort. The unit has been re-attached and is working well. Using a heater to cool down a room would only make things even hotter. Hard Water Deposits: we do have hard water in Provence. We’ve bought a new kettle and I’ve purchased a supply of Lime-Away to bring back with me. Our team is aware they must anti-calc the coffee makers and kettle more frequently. We do use Finish Powerball Quantum dishwasher tabs which normally work really effectively on hard water spots. But the electric kettle can't go into the dishwasher, so the kettle is replaced. And the same goes for the pantry – this is absolutely ‘my bad’ – guests often leave condiments – normally unopened with the intent of sharing with the next folks staying. While we absolutely throw out cereal, flour and other perishables all of the time., we will thoroughly check everything else left behind and if it even looks close to expiry, will toss it out. That’s a promise! Lastly – I want to assure this guest and future ones that we have no birds nesting on our terrace – and that our neighbors cat occasionally will peer over the roof to see what we’re up to. With furnishings from Restoration Hardware and Maisons du Monde, we would be in a quite a mess on the terrace if it were as described. So how do we make everything better? By continually improving our home, encouraging guests to let me personally know – in real time, if something has occurred that is inconvenient or upsetting and of course, working with our team to help them understand that cultural and language nuances can be misunderstood. To this reviewer -- Please -- come stay with us again – at no charge! Should you ever return to Provence, we’d love to have you back – at no rental cost whatsoever, to prove to you we can give you a week in our home that exceeds your expectations! For us it’s a matter of pride to deliver a wonderful, amazing memory – not a nightmare. In spring of 2017, I’ll be posting new photos of the upgrades and changes – and hope we earn your trust that this is really - a very special home.
