Description

OVERVIEW

The Conch House is a 100+ year old Cigarmaker's house. The house is recently renovated, charming, spacious, secluded and private. The house can comfortably accommodate a maximum of five (5) guests, who are comfortable sharing an open sociable living environment - (2) queen beds, and (1) queen sleeper sofa.

The raised vaulted ceiling creates an open living environment. The downstairs floor is the original Dade County Pine. All window, door, and floor trim is turn of the century style.

The house has a secured wi-fi network, (1) Sony 26" HDTV, (1) Samsung 26" HDTV, ATT Uverse U300, Panasonic CD/AM/FM player. The house has central air conditioning (three (3) zones), a ceiling fan, and a stacked LP washer and dryer. There is a stainless steel propane barbecue located on the pool deck.

FIRST FLOOR

There is a full kitchen (all cooking and eating utensils), black granite counter tops, oak cabinets, stainless steel refrigerator and stainless steel gas range. There is also a small living room, with a queen sleeper sofa, and a Sony 26" flat screen HDTV . A small bedroom located between the kitchen and the living room has a queen bed. The bathroom, located off the small bedroom, has been recently completely renovated; it has a vaulted ceiling, recessed lighting, a black granite vanity top, and an oak vanity.

LOFT

The loft sleeping area has a queen size bed and a Samsung 26" flat screen HDTV ATT Uverse U300.

COMMON ELEMENTS

The five (5) house compound is private and secure with a 30' x 10' heated main pool including a 10' x 5' heated Jacuzzi. In addition, there is a private 10' x 8' heated Jacuzzi. There are brick walkways, and a 40' x 10' sun deck, including a stainless steel propane barbecue, chaise lounges for sunbathing and relaxing; and tables and chairs for dining. Throughout the property there is secured wireless internet access, and 24 hour cctv security monitoring.

LANDSCAPING

The landscaping is lush including various tropical palm species, Poinciana, Spanish limes, avocado, bananas, hibiscus, bougainvillea, halliconias, bromeliads, and orchids, brick walkways.

EXCELLENT LOCATION

The gated compound is within easy walking or biking distance to everything in Old Town Key West, located at the corner of Thomas and Angela Streets - two (2) blocks from the center of Duval Street. In addition to being within easy walking and biking distance to Duval Street, and the best entertainment & dining on the island, the vacation property is located two (2) blocks from Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, the best beach and picnic area in Key West.

CHICKENS & ROOSTERS

The City of Key West protects chickens and roosters, and considers them as part of the history and charm of Key West. As a result, Key West and many of the islands throughout the Florida Keys have free-range chickens and roosters. You will definitely see and hear chickens and roosters during your stay in Key West. Some visitors to Key West love them, and some visitors hate them - personally, I enjoy them best roasted, with plantains, and black beans and rice!

Getting around

The best way to get around Key West is on a bicycle, which we have on the property available to our guests for a nominal fee - no need to rent bikes at an offsite location. Keep in mind that the island is only 2 miles by 4 miles, and during season, its much easier to park a bike than a car! (...and a little exercise is not such a bad thing)

Response from the owner Thank you for staying. Unfortunately we cannot control our avian friends - anymore than city dwellers can control buses, garbage trucks, horn honkers, sirens, and jets! The City of Key West protects the chickens and roosters in an effort to maintain the island culture and the historic charm of the island. When you are not use to the crowing, it is new and you tend to notice and focus on it - the next time you visit Key West, you will expect it and will be more accustom to it - and probably will not even hear it! Regarding the AC, it was a brand new installation and you were the first guests to enjoy it - unfortunately, the A/C contractor did not property install the condensation drain line in one of the three (3) air handlers, and apparently the fan periodically blew condensation. Fortunately there were two (2) additional air handlers that were properly installed, and they were more than adequate to cool the entire house. Since you commented to me when we spoke in the house while you were staying, the A/C contractor has made the necessary adjustment in the condensation drain line and now all three (3) air handlers are functioning properly. Two out of three ain't bad in Key West! Thanks again for staying and safe travels.
