Marsascala, Island of Malta, Malta
What's Nearby:
Additional Location Information
The Maltese archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta, the largest island, is 237 sq. kms in area; Gozo is 68 sq. kms and Comino, 2 sq. kms.
The population numbers circa 370,000. Of these, 28,000 live in Gozo. Comino is only inhabited by a few farmers. Because of their strategic position, Malta and Gozo have been inhabited for the past 7,000 years. The two islands have a long and varied prehistoric period: Neolithic, Copper and Bronze age civilisations lasted more than 4,000 years; one can still admire vestiges of those remote times in form of impressive stone temples, a unique hypogeum and remains of skilful handicrafts.
Marsaskala or Wied il-Ghajn as known in Maltese, is a small and picturesque fishing village in the south-eastern region of Malta, situated within a deep inlet. The sea front is a lovely place for a stroll, to gaze at the fishing boats which crowd the bay. Tourists and locals alike may enjoy a pleasant walk on the promenade where most of the bars, restaurants and cafes can be found.
Historical sites such as St.Thomas' Tower ,Torri Mamo and quite a number of rural chapels, as well as natural attractions like the rocky shores near Zonqor Point add character to this growing village which has now reached a population of more than 8,000 inhabitants.

This holiday was very nice the apartment was as stated in the reviews, wonderful views from both terraces, plenty of utensils in the kitchen, and so very clean, some really nice restaurants within a 10min walk down hill, which is fine the only downside is having to walk back up this hill which is very steep but apart from that the holiday and the apartment were great, buses take you to valletta where you can get a bus to anywhere else on the island, this is our 7th stay in Malta but never been to marsascarla before, we ate in Grabiel which was lovely also the Ximo which was lovely and the Lemon & Lime Pub which was really nice sitting outside watching the world go by,

Left on 07/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
My wife and i stayed in this apartment at the begining of July the apartment is wonderful, with 2 really large terraces, and lovely views, one is countryside and the other is sea view, the apartment is well stocked with all kitchen utensils that you would need, although we only cooked breakfast s we ate out the rest of the time, buses to malta are about 10min walk away, and some lovely restaurants around the harbour, the Grabiel, Lemon & Lime and Ximo to name just 3 of the ones that we recomend, George the owner met us at the airport on time and took us back, the only downside to this apartment is the very very steep hill that you have to walk up to get back to the apartment, its fine going down but quite hard going on the way back up but we still had a wonderful holiday in malta, our 7th visit as we like to try different parts of the island.

George met us on time at the airport, took us to our flat, gave us a basket of fresh fruit and made it clear that if we needed anything during our stay, just phone him. His flat has wonderful views, in a great location. Spotless flat with all that one could wish, but please invest in a better bed, pillows and settee, George! It was only a short walk to all the facilities that anyone could need, including the bus. George and his friends were a pleasure, we had a lovely holiday.

Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We booked Ta Kurun for two weeks in March in 2012. George (the owner) collected us from the airport free of charge and a big bowl of fruit and a bottle of local wine was waiting for us in teh room. The apartment was modern and fitted out with all the latest amenities, in fact the washing machine saved us doing a lot of washing when we got home! The panoramic views to the back over the fields are glorious and on a good day you can see the lights of Valetta. To the front you have a view of the port and the church. George was very helpful throughout ,including taking us back to the airport (even though we hadn't realised the clocks changed the day before we left!!)
Our only problem was the weather was a bit disapointing - but George can't do anything about that! -

Left on 12/08/2011 for a stay in November 2011
From start to finish an excellent place to stay! Very reasonable rates for the quality of the apartment, George the owner met us at the airport as we had hired a car and directed us to the apartment. He lent us his own Sat Nav for the week to help us find our way and was only a phone call away if needed. The apartment is on the top floor with a lovely terrace and at the top of the hill so not overlooked by anyone. It was perfect for us with a 5 month old, plenty of room, a cot provided at no extra charge and full kitchen for preparing baby food/bottles.
Marsascala is very nice and quiet, plenty of restaurants at the sea front which is only a five minute walk from the apartment (downhill, maybe 10 mins back - uphill). We had a great time, but would say that driving might not be necessary as the bus service appeared very good and cheap and the Marsascala bus station is only five minutes from the apartment.
I could not fault the service we received from George and the quality of the apartment or the location, I would definately advise friends and family to stay here in the future. -

Left on 04/03/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We stayed for 4 nights at the end of March and found the apartment spacious for 2 adults and in a good position both for touring ( we hired a car) and for being peaceful at night. The apartment was very nice and had all the facilities that we needed - 2 balconies which are great for sitting out. Why have a hotel room when you can have an apartment for the same money? The owner George was very helpful and a thoroughly nice chap. The town is a very pretty extended fishing village with a genuine Maltese feel. We liked the Waterline Restaurant - had 2 great meals in there and prices were reasonable. Would definitely recommend this apartment and location.

We had a wonderful 9 day stay at this apartment, especially enjoying the views and local restaurants. Everything you need can be purchased within walking distance. The apartment is at the top of the building, serviced by a lift and it was very quiet and peaceful. Marsascala and the south east of Malta have plenty of local colour and everyone is friendly, including George, the owner who was always very helpful. The apartment was well equipped but a microwave might be of benefit.

Left on 03/02/2011 for a stay in February 2011
This apartment is ideal for 2 people and is good value. George collected us from the airport and returned us there and was courteous and helpful, pointing out shops and bus stops etc on the way. The apartment is on the top floor of 4 floors of a relatively new block (with lift) in a very quiet part of town. It is a bit of a pull up when walking, but worth it for the wonderful views from both front and back terraces.
The bedroom was comfortable with good en-suite shower room. On the whole the kitchen was well equipped, but we did find it chilly in the living area in the evenings as the only form of heating was from the air conditioning unit in the bedroom. The weather was not kind to us and with the wind howling around and under both the front and patio doors it was quite cold when relaxing in the evening. We had to resort to wrapping ourselves up in blankets!
Marsascala is a lovely un-touristy town but with a good bus service to the 3 cities and Valletta from where all of the rest of Malta is easily accessible. The harbour area is lined with restaurants and we would definitely recommend Le Luci which is located above Country Style at the beginning of the promenade. We had 2 superb meals here. The atmosphere and service complemented the fantastic food cooked by the Sicilian chef. -

We are very happy with the stay - everything from pick-up in the airport to the apartment itself was fine. George is a great host, prepared everything as requested. The fares were reasonable, the apartment well equipped, with 2 fantastic terraces and open sea view behind the bay with harbour. Quiet surroundings, close to all amenities, there is also an interesting beach not too far away. Great!

Wonderful views from the unit on top of the hill. The owner was very helpful, picking us up from the airport and returning us at the end of our holiday, even though it was 5:30 in the morning. Nice welcome with a bottle of wine and basic provisions were provided to make our stay more comfortable. Only downside was having to walk up the hill each day. It was very steep and not good for mature people.

County Kilkenny, Republic of IrelandThe self catering bit of the holiday
Left on 10/31/2010 for a stay in October 2010
My wife and I split our break into 3 sections, hotel in malta , hotel in Gozo and back to the south of malta for the last 3 nights self catering as we had heard so much from so many people we were spoiled for choice. If all of the self catering was as good as Georges place , I would have no hesitation in going self for the whole break . It was by far the best value for money, spotlessly clean, beautifull views at any time of the day,or evening. The shops were only a few minutes away , fine choice of resteraunts to suit most tastes and prices, short drive to Valletta and airport . Although we rented a car , its on a very regular bus route to almost anywhere on the island. George is a gentleman and would bend over backwards to help and make things comfortable for his guests. I would be happy to return to malta and would be looking to George first , Thank you George.

London1 week stay in malta with young child
Left on 08/02/2010 for a stay in July 2010
The apartment was clean and tidy and had a few more than the usual equipment you would expect to find. It was spacious enough for two adults and a young child, which suitable outside space, two large balconies.
The owner was very helpful, proving us with useful information about the location such as bus times before beginning our stay. He also picked us up and dropped us back to the airport free of charge.
The only small downside was the road to the apartment which was not tarmac, so it was difficult pushing a pram up the road. Also the local beaches were mainly rocky, which wasn't suitable with a young child, but it was only about a 40 minute drive to a very beautiful sandy beach. Overall a good family holiday, for accommodation, and accessibility to many attractions and amenities.

We have just spent 2 weeks here and loved every minute of it.
The apartment is large, has beautiful views, two great balconies, and is well equipped with everything you need.
Four stars for location simply because you really need a car to get around - but that seems true of everywhere in Malta if you want to see more than your local neighbourhood.
The landlord is very friendly and helpful. We also appreciated being greeted on arrival at the airport and driven back at the end of our stay. -

Left on 04/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010
First of all, we exchanged several e-mails with our host.
He gave us tourist and practical information for our stay.
We were welcomed at the airport. And our host returned us to the aèroport at the end of the stay.
(On the spot, it's better to rent a car)
Our host made us discover the main places of the city (useful and pleasant).
The apartment is new, clear, spacious with a very beautiful bedroom and a big balcony.
The apartment is in overhang: beautiful view on the harbor, the town, gardens and countryside.
The linen is correct.
The equipment of the kitchen is impeccable. The bathroom is very well.
We were completely satisfied by the welcome and by the apartment.
