A Perfect Hideaway – Come and stay awhile

Halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, quietly sitting between the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hillsides of open ranchland is the small town of Los Osos. It’s nestled along the southern tidal estuary of Morro Bay, on the smog-free coast of Central California. Los Osos is a short 20-minute drive from San Luis Obispo through lush agricultural and cattle grazing countryside, a short 5-mile drive from Morro Bay (home of the well-known Morro Rock) and is just a few hours drive from major metropolitan areas.

The community is easily reached from Highway 101 on Los Osos Valley Road or from Highway 1 on South Bay Boulevard. With a population of nearly 15,000 the town is off the beaten tourist tract and is surrounded by thousands of acres of State Parks and nature preserves overlooking Morro Bay.

The north coast area of San Luis Obispo County is a haven for artists, wine and food aficionados, water sports enthusiasts, antique collectors, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and people who appreciate quiet, undiscovered get-away locations.

When the lure of open spaces calls you, follow winding country roads to award-winning vineyards for wine tasting, or to grassy hilltops for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful Hearst Castle is just 35-minutes away, and beyond that is the splendor of the Big Sur coastline.

      A fantastic retreat!

Left on 05/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our stay at the Green Cottage was just the antidote we needed from the bustle and stress of daily life. Peaceful, quiet, amazing view, and thoughtfully decorated interior made for a memorable place to relax, read, and decompress. The location also allowed ideal access to surrounding activities like Hearst Castle, and trips into Cambria, San Luis Obispo, and Morro Bay. We would highly recommend this lovely retreat!!!

      The most marvelous retreat

Left on 02/01/2013 for a stay in February 2010

      Dear Green Cottage,
That should really be addressed to "our precious Green Cottage." When my husband and I stepped through your doorway for the first time, we immediately fell in love with you. You drew us in with your lovely interior, and through the kitchen windows, you were quick to show us your view of the beauty that lay within nature.

You graciously provided all that we were looking for--a place to quiet our souls, to renew our spirits, slow down our pace, and strengthen the bond between us. You promised a peaceful haven just beyond the purple door, and you were so right. We felt a special sense of tranquility and simplicity that was just what we wanted and needed.

We loved the privacy and the opportunity to go at our own pace. With you, we don't have to worry about being out at a certain time for maid service; we don't hear neighbors in the next room; your furniture is so comfortable; and your books and movies are such a treat. We loved being able to fix our own meals if we wished. We especially liked bringing food back from Noi's to enjoy in our temporary home. It felt so much like home away from home that you will forever be our favorite.

Your friend, Pandora, sent us a lovely note following our visit, and it has your picture on it. I want you to know that I keep it on my desk as a reminder of the very special time we spent with you. We will return someday, and I know we will feel like we are within the arms of an old and familiar friend.

The Cottage is designed to create a quiet intimacy for couples, away from the madding crowd. No phones (except the mobile they bring); no TV blaring in the background (only DVDs); and just the sounds of water lapping on the shore, the surf in the distance, and the shorebirds. A perfect retreat.

I wish I could live there!

Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012

It's difficult to find the words to describe such a great experience. Having been there once before, it's amazing to find that the second stay at the cottage just gets better. It is so cozy and charming, wonderfully decorated and has just about whatever one would need for a comfortable stay. The cottage is wonderfully located, with quick and easy access to Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, as well as hiking, shopping, kayaking, walking along the Elfin Forest or Montana De Oro, or just relaxing and enjoying the wonderful view from the patio (and taking some great photographs of amazing sunsets) or enjoying a movie in the evening from the vast selection of movies from the DVD collection at the cottage, Each time I have been there, I leave making the same comment "I wish we could live here.'

4th time staying at Green Cottage

Left on 09/28/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The Green Cottage" was nothing short of wonderful...Pandora and Gary take such pride in this rental and it shows in how clean and well maintain this property is. They have added new amenities...beautiful new bedding, new upholstered furniture, a herb garden on the patio which I used when making a Italian dish. New art pieces and great new Dvd's to mention just a few...Our first time here during the 4th of July and with the view of the fireworks off the back porch looking out towards Morro rock it was magical. All I can say is this is the best money you will ever spend on a getaway. We will definitely be back again soon.

We are always delighted when our guests return. This couple has already booked their 5th visit! This year the fireworks were terrific, the sky was clear and we could see both the Morro Bay and the Cayucos displays from the Cottage deck. What a nice way for our guests to celebrate the holiday.

      The Perfect Retreat

Left on 09/26/2012 for a stay in April 2011

Our recent stay at The Green Cottage couldn't have been more perfect. The beautifully appointed cottage offers solitude and comfort, as well as accessibility to nearby hiking trails, beaches, and the towns of Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. You are also perfect striking distance to the coastal wine country, Cambria (a cute artist colony town on the coast), and Hearst's Castle. We loved sitting on the deck, overlooking the bay and watching the birds and otters playing in the water. It was tranquil paradise! This is a great place to come for a respite--to read, write, relax, and explore the beautiful central California coast. We highly recommend it!

First impression arriving at the Green Cottage, wow, what a view! The cottage is cozy, impeccably clean and comfortably equipped. The decor is a blend of exquisite antique pieces and family treasures collected from around the world. The owners are world travelers and know what their guests desire and ask if there are special needs. The Central Coast is home to Hearst Castle, the fabulous stately Morro Rock, and myriad sports activities; golf, kayaking, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, horseback riding, beach glass collecting, scuba diving, off-shore and surf fishing, just think it and it can be done. Whale watching is a big thrill as well! Information regarding local interests and features is at your fingertips in a catalog that covers everything from fine dining to winery tours and tasting. In nearby San Luis Obispo the arts and concert events are held along with the annual Mozart Festival, SLO International Film Festival and so much more. Botany lovers will enjoy the local San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden and its exhibits of mediterannean climate region plants. Your hosts eagerly guide you to enjoy all the area has to offer. Want to just while away the hours? A library of Dvds and books are available, as well as a deck overlooking the Morro Bay estuary which is, in itself, entertaining and peaceful, a nature lovers bird watchers paradise. I cannot wait for a return stay!

This delightful young woman should clearly write for travel magazines. She certainly described some of our area's best attributes. We even saw her paddling by our home on her stand-up paddle board at high tide, with a big smile and a friendly wave.
