Sevenoaks, United KingdomFantastic, beautiful place to stay!
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We have been here for almost 8 weeks, and it has been wonderful. The villa is home from home, and really well equipped, set in tropical gardens, and overlooking a pristine pool. We go every morning to Holetown to waterski, and swim. What a start to the day! A little work in between, and then a swim in what must be the best kept pool in Barbados. It is great for laps.
Anita and Dave look after the villa and do their utmost to make this a perfect holiday. Sophia comes in once a week to clean and change towels and linen, and she is fantastic.
The villa is convenient for all local amenities, Mullins bar and restaurant( great for a sunset cocktail) Speightstown, and Holetown for shopping. There are wonderful restaurants, the Cliff, the Lone Star are favourites, and Bombas and Ramshackle are great for casual dining.
We love the reggae night at the Golden anchor frequented by the locals and tourists. We have met Cliff Richard at a cocktail party and are due to go to the Holders Festival gala night on Saturday.
We have booked for next year. This is really the perfect break away in Winter, although we love the summer months as well. We love Barbados, and Kings Beach is an ideal place to stay. -

We spent 6 weeks in Barbados at the Villa. We travel allot and on this particular stay we had already been travelling for 6 months.
Firstly, a few comments on Barbados.
Frankly, we were less than impressed. Although our location was quiet and relaxing, for the most part, access to the beach and to Holetown was not enjoyable due to the extra loud music on the buses, very few choices of restaurants close to the Villa, and annoyance of peddlers at Mullins Beach constantly selling their jet ski ride etc, the lack of infrastructure, and particularly disconcerting, the lack of walking pavements along the roads, where the buses roll along with total disregard for speed limits let alone pedestrians walking the streets. We rented a car but after a few days checking out the interesting spots, we had exhausted the things we wanted to see. The cost of living in Barbados is outrageous considering the lack of infrastructure.
As for our stay in the Villa, the owner went to extraordinary lengths to provide us with complete information in advance of our arrival, which was very helpful. The Villa essentially provided all the amenities we required. However, air conditioning controls had been installed in advance of our check in which automatically turned off every two hours. This meant that on a humid night where we are accustomed to aC, that we had to get out of bed in the middle of night to switch the aC back on in order to sleep. We certainly appreciate the desire to save on electricity, however if aC is included in the quoted price, it should either be provided without restriction, or the limits placed on aC should be disclosed, which they were not. Further, the hot water was always warm or cold, and it came about that the hot water ran on solar, and a “booster” switch had been installed at the outside entrance to the bathroom, for which we were uninformed. Frankly, the complex electrical systems became apparent, including ongoing issues with the TV, which would react differently when using the controls. The kitchen was well appointed, and the only item missing was a blender. Also, we had to purchase an umbrella, which was not available, but much needed during our stay. We left this for future tenants. One of the ground attendants caused ongoing discomfort with constantly looking into the Villa and generally hanging around, encroaching on privacy. Outdoor furniture used in the living room was very uncomfortable, and really needs to be upgraded for reasonable comfort.
Overall, for our 6-week stay, we would rate Barbados 2 stars out of 5 and the Villa 3 stars out of 5. We suspect that if tenants stay for 1 week or less, the rating may be higher.
If you do decide to stay in Barbados, I would recommend the Villa provided the electrical controls are removed, and the living room furniture is upgraded. -

Amazing, absolute bargain place to stay for West-coast Barbados;
Left on 06/14/2012 for a stay in April 2012
It's dificult to praise this place any more highly than it already has been - every word of what has been written here is true. The high-point of the place has to be pool, which is always kept immaculate by the onsite manager and his very friendly staff; most days we had the pool to ourselves early in the morning and late afternoon - the best times to swim as it's not shaded and so too hot middle day - and it's proximity to the beach of course (over the road but you don't want to be right on the beach because of the sandflies). A few tips though :-
1) If you plan to walk like we did, bring a brolly - for use as a parasol if not much as an umbrella; there's very lttle shade on the roads but when it rains, infrequently, it pours and it's never nice getting drenched however quickly you may dry off!
2) Despite the owners recommendations, don't shop at the SuperCenter in Holetown unless you enjoy being ripped off; that place, indeed most of Holetown, is for the celebrities and exceedingly rich of Sandy Lane and the Royal Westmoreland and is priced accordingly. Go to Jordans in Speightstown (pronounced Spites-town BTW) instead - they don't have quite the range of items but you'll get most things that you need there; you'll only see tourists in SuperCenter, it's too expensive - the locals all go to Jordans. Furthermore, buy your fruit and vegetables from the local sellers on the street - it's even cheaper, likely to be fresher (picked that day) and you're supporting the local community.
3) Don't be afraid of dining in the local rum bars and cafes, the food is good, fresh and wholesome "mamas own" cooking. Indeed, on most days opposite the building site of the new Palazzate condos about 100 yds up the road towards Speightstown you'll probably find a van at lunchtime selling cheap local food for the site workers - try it, you won't be disappointed. Again you'll only get ripped off in the fancy restaurants like the one down the road at Mullins Beach (owned by the Royal Westmoreland) and those further south around Holetown (with the notable exception of anita's own Cafe Carizma there, that is - go there on Tuesday or Thursday evening for the Tapas with entertainment - brilliant!) - only the decor is more expensive, the food and the service won't be; for example, dinner at Bombas - the red, green and yellow "chattel house" on the beach side down towards Mullins just before the Texaco garage - is half the price of the Mullins Restaurant but the food is just as good if not better, the rum punches are stronger and you get just as magnificent a view of the sunset over the water. The East Moon chinese next door is also good but not that cheap - better for a takeaway than eat-in as you get more although both are the same price.
3) Don't bother with a car unless you really need one or you enjoy poluting the atmosphere for the rest of us; I've never seen so many buses run so frequently anywhere on my travels (and I've been around) and the fare is a standard 2$B (=1$us or about 65pUK) for any length single journey. There's a bus to Bridgetown every few minutes (or Speightstown in the other direction but you can easily walk there in 10 minutes) and the yellow "Reggae" buses are like bananas in both respects - they usually come in bunches of 2 or 3 and they are a crazy but unmissable experience. Buses to Oistins and further afield are less frequent but still catchable from the same main road stop - the nearest one is 50 yds up the road towards Speightstown (turn right out of the village entrance) next to Morggans rum bar - and the yellow ones will often stop for you anywhere if you stick your hand out; if you're walking, walk on the opposite side of the road, facing the traffic (which you should do for safety anyway), otherwise they'll probably stop for you anyway and toot their musical horns to let you know they're just behind you! If you prefer a quiet, more stable ride then use the Transport Board (blue) ones but they are slightly less frequent; you *can* get one of these to the airport but beware that it takes at least an hour and a quarter, even longer and they're crowded in the rush hours. -

We had a great time at the villa! And in Barbados as well! It was our first trip since getting our doggy and I did not miss her as much as I had feared ;) However we did get to the island an hour late due to the flight & then we didn't have a mobile phone that worked to call anita. So we rented a car from Jones car rental because we did not reserve sooner. But it turned out okay... except for the drive, I don't drive daily in general so the many roundabouts definitely threw me off! It took us a good 4 hours or so but we finally found the Kings Beach Village. A nearby friendly gardener also helped when we were close. I think the island needs more street signs. The villa is close to Speightstown & Holetown!
But we found Barbados to be a great time, especially the nature reserve where we saw a green monkey (also in Batts bay briefly!), birds, snails, frogs & turtles. We loved how in-tune things felt with nature unlike some more overdeveloped islands like St Maarten. People in Barbados are also nicer, in that they will guide a stranger etc. Less illicit drug offers on the beach, less solicitors even on the more touristy beaches. And I like the public buses even though we rented a car. We snorkeled in shallow water near Heywoods & saw a turtle feeding by the rocks! We also snorkeled with turtles further out in the sea with the folks from Jus Chillin watersports. They are super friendly & not too pushy either. Right around the corner from the villa complex is a pizza place & also quality chinese food at East Moon. There is even a small bar on the villa complex near the pool. So eating 3x a day should not be a problem & perfect for evening arrivals or late lunch.
Regret not seeing Harrison's' Cave or the abbey but we hope to see them next time! =D I definitely would recommend Barbados to people & this villa is definitely a good location & quality & comfort!
Thank you Ian & Anita for everything! Anita was very helpful in pointing out things to do, etc! Her Cafe Karizma also makes great smoothies & breakfast! -

Barbados Dreaming is a superb villa located in an excellent position within the Kings Beach Village complex of 32 villas. It is set right by the gorgeous clear waters of the well-kept swimming pool. The gardens are beautiful and it is wonderfully peaceful if you love to chill out and enjoy the sunshine. I was absolutely delighted with the accommodation which is immaculately clean and fully equipped with all the mod cons you could ever desire to make your holiday run smoothly. The owners include free use of their wireless Internet in the rental which is very generous and saves having to walk into Speightstown to use the Internet. The villa is very tastefully decorated and the equipment is very good quality.
I travelled there solo as a free-spirited, adventurous woman and felt completely safe. The local beach at St Peters Bay is 5 minutes walk away and I enjoyed having the whole beach all to myself. Mullins Beach and restaurant is 5 minutes walk away in the opposite direction. This is another lovely beach but much busier. Here there are parasols, bar, restaurant, jet skis etc. You can easily walk to Speightstown from the villa either along the beach or along the main road depending on your choice. Jordans the supermarket offers a free minibus service back to the villa with your shopping provisions. If you don't want to hire a car, it is so easy to get around on the yellow buses. They are fun and cheap. Holetown is only a 15 minutes bus ride from the villa.
I have been to Barbados's west coast many times. My stay in the villa made for a delightful, independent, easy going holiday. If you haven't been to Barbados before do not worry. Ian and Nadine, the owners, provide you with lots of information about the island and where a whole range of restaurants are for every budget.
I would highly recommend this beautiful villa to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday who enjoys their independence and loves to explore.
I have already decided to fly back to Barbados and rent the villa again this year. It's well worth a second stay!!!

. . .but that wouldn't be fair. I don't know where to begin to accurately describe how much this villa exceeded our expectations. Nadine and Ian made the booking process effortless. The entire village is immaculately clean and the villa itself is impeccably decorated with every possible convenience. Having my french-press coffee each morning on the side deck with a view of lush gardens and mango trees while watching the birds, monkeys, lizards, and other assorted wildlife was such a wonderful way to begin the day. My husband, John, and I spent countless after-beach hours in the beautiful pool which we nicknamed "the womb" due to it's ideal temperature. Mullins beach for lounging/swimming is a short walk and Port St. Charles reef for incredible snorkeling is also easily accessible. Though we did not require the services of anita and Dave during our stay (we lacked for nothing!), we knew they were available if we needed either of them for any assistance. And Jamaal was so amiable and attentive that we felt he was our personal bartender. We vacationed with family and friends who had accomodations elsewhere and all agreed that Barbados-Dreaming was incomparable. John and I are definitely dreaming about our return. Our warmest thanks to Nadine and Ian, Anita and Dave, Jamaal, Sophia, and others who helped make this trip outstanding.

My husband and I booked the villa for one week and loved it so much we stayed for the remainder of our vacation. The owners Nadine & Ian were excellent as were the property mangers anita & Dave. The villa and the gardens were in perfect condition. The villa is an end unit with extra windows and doors to let in the beautiful sunshine. The pool was right outside our door, which was lovely for those evening dips.
Location to the beach, Speightstown and Holetown was great, a ten minute walk to the beach, then along the beach into Speightstown for a morning latte at Casareep. What a way to start the morning, it doesn't get any better than that! And... the bed in the villa is top quality and very comfortable. -

My husband and I stayed at Ian and Nadine's Villa for 10 days in February and did not want to leave. The villa was beautiful and very clean. The grounds and pool were well kept and the pool at the end of the day (or first thing in the morning) was so refreshing.
We did a lot of sight seeing and walked to Speightstown a couple of times and enjoyed the locals; buying fresh veggies and fruit at the stands. The fish from tne local market was amazing! The Flying Fish and Marlin is what we especially loved. Alvin, the taxi Nadine recommended was excellent. We had the pleasure of hiring his cab , driven by his father, for an afternoon and he toured us first to the North Point (too beautiful for words!) and down along the coast to Bathsheba. As a native to the island, Nevel was a wealth of information and treated us like royalty. We had 5 star dining at most places we ate on the Island. We walked to Mullins for dinner one night and to Coblers Cove another
evening for excellent Lobster Thermadore. We walked miles and miles, and you can, but need to be cautious of the traffic. The sidewalks are safer but many places you were beside the road and needed to be aware at all times. This was a little more challenging at night after a few Rum Punches and Banks beers:) Barbados is a fairly safe place and customer service is tops, all over the island. The yellow bus was a riot and had huge fun travelling on them. The white vans, not so much. Too close for comfort! Overall it was an amazing vacation and we would recommend the villa to anyone. The customer service from Nadine was exceptional right from my first email to inquire about the property to the day we left. Anita and Dave made sure all our needs were met and any questions answered. The bartender Greg at the Villa was a true professional. We really did not want to leave and come back to cold Alberta but consoled ourselves that it would only be about 300 more sleeps till we were off on our next island adventure!
