Walk 6 minutes or ride a rented motorbike along a tropical river path (and then up 30 steps) to our second architect designed (that's me) loft-like antique joglo (traditional javanese teak house). Jazmin is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, one rice paddy away from our other joglo Passiflora, Our artist's village has no car access or car sounds but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and collared kingfisher birds, and still walking distance away from Ubud (20 minutes).



Penestanan now has its very own yoga studio, meditation center, approximately 10 charming restaurants (Indonesian, Japanese, Indian, Raw/Organic, Vegetarian, Vegan) and a cafe and bakery, so you don't even have to get on your motorbike.

Jazmin, like Passiflora is a reclaimed antique joglo brought in timber by timber from Java. Though similar, each of the joglos has its own personality and I have taken care to design every detail to make sure it is the ultimate in a unique indoor /outdoor living experience ( I am an architectural designer and have designed houses in six countries but Indonesia is my favorite so far). Staying in these old transformed houses is a one of a kind experience in luxurious simple ecological living (read some of the reviews).


As you walk into Jazmin, you'll be taken by the the super spacious loft -like feel (1000 sq. ft. /90 meters square) with the added pleasure of a massive antique teak timber roof above your head (25 ft./ 8 meters) and all reclaimed wood panels, carvings and doors! We have re used every board.
The roof is made of handwoven grass. But the sensibility is modern with an emphasis on comfort. There is no villa quite as uniquely in touch with nature as Jazmin and Passiflora in Penestanan.

We now have a shared salt water pool for the use of our guests.

Read on the daybed on the verandah, have a conversation in the living room then have a nap in the bedroom on the king-sized super comfortable bed overlooking the rice paddies. The kitchen is perfect for cooking (polished concrete countertops) and reclaimed wood cabinet doors At night, the bedroom locks up for privacy and safety, but the living room stays open for maximum connection with nature. You can practice yoga comfortably in so many spots and later bathe under the stars in the sunken tub. Made and Made will pamper you with healthy breakfasts of our homemade yogurt and fruit or black rice pudding. I'll leave you my list of my favorite masseurs and drivers and secret spots and restaurants. I am also writing up my suggestions for must sees on 3 day stay, a five day stay and a 7 to 10 day stay.

A honeymoon couple inaugurated Jazmin, however I also love staying in the joglos by myself and it's also a wonderful experience as a family. We are situated at the end of the path and are protected by Kadek's family in the Balinese compound below. Our joglos are among two in Penestanan which are connected to family temples and a compound.


Like Passiflora, this is a truly unique experience for adventurous folks who want to be in touch with the Bali of rice farmers in the most natural but still luxurious way! Enjoy!
