Central yet tucked away down a twitten in the famous Lanes, this glamorous Alice in Wonderland themed cottage is superbly situated in the heart of the city within the most fashionable shopping and dining district. This boutique gem takes Victorian Alice in Wonderland as its inspiration. This super stylish property has references to cards, key holes and looking glasses... The bedrooms are soft and tactile with glistening wallpapers, silky bed throws and retro lamps.

The opulent, open-plan kitchen/living room has 2 silver sofa-beds to sleep a further 2 guests. This amazing room has a mirrored looking glass ceiling & vintage playing card wallpaper. Sparkling dinky kitchen with shimmery granite work surfaces. Double doors lead to the miniature terrace.

The Looking Glass Room - Double/twin bedroom to sleep 2 guests. Dainty illustrated wallpaper with belts, braces, top hats and fob watches. Vintage looking glasses adorn the walls together with a delightful quilted silky ceiling to add a touch of glamour in a double helping! Victorian wash basin & vanity accessories.

Flamingo Dreams - Double/twin bedroom to sleep 2 guests. Delicious bedroom with silky quilted ceilings and upside down flamingo wallpaper! Victorian corner sink and teacup side lamps.

The White Rose Boudoir - Double bedroom to sleep 2 guests with mirrored ceiling and vintage Sanderson wallpaper. Victorian wash basin and stand & antique french chandelier.

There is a small rear terrace with a table and 2 chairs. This south-facing sun trap is ideal for champagne in the twilight or coffee and croissants in the morning sun. There is an additional outdoor cloakroom with WC, novelty silver hand basin and teapot tap, which continues the Alice tea party theme.

Children and 1 small, well-behaved dog are welcome.

“Alice In Wonderland , Brighton”

Response from the owner This group of 6 ladies have been true to their threat to each leave a bad review of the cottage for being asked politely to cover the cost of a broken designer lamp, £90. This review and the review below are from the same particular group and are in stark contrast to all our other reviews so I hope that potential bookers will see the malice and take them with a pinch of salt. The cottage is lovely and charming and petitely proportioned as you would expect from a 500 year old fisherman's cottage however the ceilings are standard hight and we often host groups of up to 8 guests who understand the limitations of the space. Most guests are happy with the amazing central location and use the cottage as bolt-hole and place to lay their heads. There was indeed a broken plug on the iron which was not reported by the previous guests who broke it and was not spotted by the extremely busy cleaner working flat out in the crazy summer season. BUT this cleaner loves the property and works very hard with a heart and a half to make it sparkling clean and welcoming for our guests. He was straight down in the evening with a replacement iron for these guests as soon as it was reported. It is not true that I called any of them fat. They complained about the length of the beds (which are standard length) and declared that only 2 of them could sit on each 4 seater sofa so, baffled, I asked if they were particularly large people? I'm afraid that when I first reported the breakage to the lead guest she immediately took a defensive stance and declared that I shouldn't put nice things in there if I cared if they got broken. The nice things are there for the delight and joy of my guests and this breakage only occurred because the guests did not follow the house rules and left all the windows wide open on check-out. If I had been responsible for a significant breakage at a property I would certainly offer to pay for it. It is very sad for me that these people felt offended enough to try to ruin my small business, it's been hard enough through the pandemic. Hopefully the next reviews will show that this was not the general feeling or experience of most guests staying at Looking Glass Cottage.

Response from the owner When I informed the lead guest that unfortunately there was shattered lamp on the bedroom floor after their check-out she replied that she felt she should not have to pay for it as it must have been the wind (they had left all the windows wide open). When I explained that they had agreed to close all the windows before leaving and that it was part of their responsibility of care for the property she got defensive and stated "If the lamp was that important to you, you shouldn't have left it in the house. There are similar lamps available from Ebay starting at £45. I don't expect to pay any more. There are 6 of us that will be reviewing your tired and cramped accommodation on Tripadvisor". Now why would she mention reviewing the property on Tripadvisor in the same breath as insisting she would not pay more than £45 for a replacement lamp...? As a small business owner with tight margins at the best of times I am never going to be rich from this enterprise. I usually suck up the cost of damages myself in the interests of keeping everyone happy but having been massively impacted by the pandemic restrictions and this being quite a large expense I did not feel financially able to on this occasion and therefore enforced the terms of the damage deposit, charging her the exact cost of the broken item.
