The Neighborhood

La Floresta is the contemporary bohemian zone in Quito. Filmmakers, painters, actors and musicians live in this neighborhood with antique houses, located east of La Mariscal. In here, many places of cultural interest –indie film movie theatres, restaurants, TV and film production companies, art galleries, and craft stores- share their space with houses, universities, hotels, squares and parks. La Floresta is also a place for sports and entertainment. The Rumiñahui Coliseum is located here, which is not only a sports and training center, but also where some of the largest concerts in Quito take place. Gastronomy is one of this sector's specialties. La Floresta Market provides to the city's most sophisticated restaurants, with products like tamarillos, naranjillas, cherimoyas, papayas, and golden berries, among others. Typical food restaurants, Chinese, Italian, Peruvian, and fusion, line up in La Floresta's streets, offering the finest menus and vibrant atmospheres. Plus, in the afternoons, the Vicentina Square turns into a popular gastronomic fair. If you drop by, make sure you try tripa mishqui.
