The Shikumen Suite is a romantic and spacious suite featuring an antique Chinese hip bath in the stunning bedroom, as well as a private ensuite and courtyard. Shikumen houses originated in China in the mid 1800?s, and featured large stone gateways opening onto enclosed courtyards, and a mixture of Eastern and Western architecture. With the advancing pace of development, Shikumen are fast disappearing in mainland China, and are the inspiration behind the Shikumen Villa & Suite.

The antique houses used in the Shikumen Villa & Suite were originally from Java, which has a significant Chinese population, and the original structure, comprising a traditional Chinese square arch, is constructed from century old teak wood. The distinctive design for the Shikumen features the use of large gateways and shaded courtyards, and the interior design incorporates rich reds, crisp whites and natural wood, as well as artifacts from the Indonesian archipelago. The lighting has been built into colourful traditional bird cages hung from bamboo racks, creating a gentle ambience. All these elements are skilfully blended with modern conveniences and contemporary aesthetics to create a comfortable and elegant environment.

Sandwiched between Jalan Drupadi and Jalan Dyana Pura the Shikumen are down a secluded and quiet lane, right in the heart of Bali’s premiere tourist district of Seminyak. Only 500 meters west to the beach, 300 meters east to Jalan Seminyak and 300 meters north to Jalan Kayu Aya (also known as Jl Laksmana or eat street), the Shikumen are located in fine company; fine dining, fine shopping and fine night life. Just a short walk to the beach, this is the perfect location for a relaxing and sensuous holiday with numerous options for you to explore, including the option to stay right where you are.

There are 2 ways to get to the Shikumen, either via Jalan Camplung Tanduk (known locally as Jalan Dyana Pura) or Jalan Kayu Aya (known locally as “Eat Street”). Either way, once you are on Jalan Drupadi, turn into Jalan Drupadi II (La Sal Restaurant is on the corner) then go straight until you reach the end of this short road and then turn left into the driveway lined with umbrellas which light up the driveway at night.

Access by motorbike can also be made from Jalan Dyana Pura. Look out for Cosa Nostra Pizza Restaurant and turn right into Gang Cempaka. Follow this small gang (lane) around a bend which will then lead you into the driveway of Shikumen Villa and Suite. This is also the driveway to Bali Ginger Suites.

  Our villa was amazing! I felt like a princess. The villa was beautifully designed and facilities & staff amazing. I'll never go back to a resort again! The experience of staying in a place where you felt like you were really living in a luxurious Balinese hideaway was second to none. I would recommend it to everyone! Can't wait to visit again!!!

  Excellent stay for Nyepi Day

  Our first time staying in a private villa, mainly as we thought it would be better for Nyepi Day, having the pool etc and just being able to 'chill out'... we werent disappointed. The Villa is beautiful and spacious. Spotlessly clean, and, yes, the bamboo sheets are divine! Tea, coffee and all cooking facilities are provided and a well stocked fridge at supermarket prices was an added bonus.
  Staff were friendly and helpful, and always smiling. If you like the privacy of a villa in a great location (short walk to eat/shop/massage etc) then this place is great. I thought the driver (booked through the Villa)was quite expensive compared to others we have used ($35 for half day) but we couldnt be bothered arranging another at short notice and overall we were happy with him so wasnt really an issue, just something I feel is worth mentioning.
  All in all... fantastic villa!!

  Amazing Villa in a perfect loction

  I cant really fault this Villa! It looks exactly as it does in the photos. The location is perfect for walking to the shops and restaurants and only a short cab ride to Potato Head or into Kuta. The Villa was the perfect size for 3 or 4 people. It was cleaned every day and every night they came back in to get rid of any mosquitos and turn down the beds. Loved the complimentary pastries and muffins in the morning and the staff were so nice and very helpful. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend it to anyone planning to stay in Seminyak

  Beautiful night in a suite full of antique character

  We recently stayed in the Shikumen Suite with our little one for a special occasion. The suite is beautiful with a huge bed, huge bathroom and the chinese antique bath. Everything was spotless and every detail was taken care of. The bamboo bedlinen was super soft. The staff were very helpful and helped us make a restaurant reservation and anything else we needed. The location is perfect and from the suite we could walk to dinner and to the boutiques and shops. I would definitely recommend the suite to a couple wanting a romantic break or even for a family with a baby.

  Simply stunning. This brand new villa wraps around an old Chinese structure in a contemporary new design, with exquisite detail. Loved the sound of water trickling in the background, the gardens and private pool with sun beds. Great central location away from noisy traffic.

  This villa was even more gorgeous in real life than it was in the photos, which is rarely the case. They did an excellent job with the design and the details. It feels so new and clean, very comfortable- quality bedding, flat screen TVs, and effective aC. The villa also had an iPod/iPhone dock with speakers, hair dryer, stocked kitchen and fridge full of well priced drinks and snacks.
  
  The location is good, but a little to far to walk to some of the places we liked (Potato Head, Grocer and Grind, Bodyworks). That wasn't a problem though with taxis being easily accessible and able to drive you there with aC for about $1.50.
  
  We had read some reviews where people mentioned it being noisy from the local nightclubs. We didn't notice that at all. Once in our rooms with the air on, we didn't hear a thing until the roosters woke up in the morning.
  
  The staff was also extremely helpful during our travel planning and our stay.
  
  We would definitely return to this villa and recommend it.

  As you say, there are so many options available in Seminyak now that it is impossible to be close to them all. Our particular locale has developed some pretty good options including Chez Gado Gado, Mama San, La Sal a new kid on the block, Lacacalaca (a funky Mexican restaurant). All good quality and great value.
  
  Thanks for the feedback about the sounds from the nightclubs. It has been an issue for some people, but like you most people do not have any problems at all with it.

  Arrived at the villa to be welcomed by many staff who looked after us so well,we didn't have to do a thing.The Villa had almost everything ,cleaned 3 times a day,very private,and quirt,some music at night you can hear,but not bothering.Great location,for shopping,restaurants,5 minutes walk to the beach.I would like to see wine and cocktail glasses supplied in the villa,and a map of where the bottle shops are.
  I didn't go to sober up but to relax and enjoy.

  We have been to Bali on many occasions and came across these villa's, so we stayed one night to see how they were and then went to Lombok and upon our return to Seminyak we cancelled our other accommodation and decided to stay the whole time here.
  Great location near all the shops and the beach, beautiful rooms, very modern with plenty of space. We also stayed in the one bedroom villa and would highly recommend these as well. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Continental breakfast was included plus free internet or use of their computer.
  Would have no hesitation in recommending these villa's, would definately stay there again.

  Shikumen Villa is a unique and special experience. There are a lot of Villa's in Seminyak but not many that have such a nice attention to detail. The location is perfect, protected from the hustle and bustle yet still right in the centre of Seminyak.
  The owners and staff are terrifically helpful. We have two young children and they helped organise a baby sitter who adored our kids and freed us up to experience the town.
  We were constantly surprised by what Bali had to offer and Shikumen Villa provided us with the perfect accommodation to make the most of our holiday.
