Left on 05/16/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My partner & I spent a week in the annex recently. The location is wonderful in a peaceful, tranquil and rural setting very close to the beach and the beach bar and with great views of Knocknarea, which is a worthwhile climb or for a longer walk do the 15km walk which takes in the climb starting & finishing in Strandhill.
The area is an ideal base for walking. We walked the Sligo Way over 3 days, starting in Lough Talt & finishing 73kms later in Dromahair. Beautiful & varying scenery all along the way. If 3 days is not for you any section of this way is breathtaking.
Closer to home is the aughris Head/Dunmoran Strand Walk, a gorgeous cliff walk.
The annex itself is comfortable and we enjoyed the added peace as there was noone staying in the attaching beach house while we were there until the last 2 nights, waking up each morning to just the sound of cows & sheep, a real escape.

Our family stayed there over Easter weekend and had a great time. It's less than 5 mins walk to the beach and less than 10 mins (900m) to a really good pub (the Beach Bar) with good value food and a very nice atmosphere. The house is very big and has a 4 bedrooms - a double room (en-suite) for parents, a big kids room with a double and a single bed , another double and another single (downstairs) as well as a bathroom and downstairs W.C. so you could fit 2 families. Its very well kitted out with towels, cooking and washing facilities and we really appreciated the small things there like teabags!. Heat and electricity are extra at cost. There's central heating, an open fire and a stove so no reason not to be cosy. The nearest shop is several miles away but once you're stocked up you'd be quite happy staying there enjoying the scenery, taking a walk, reading a good book, etc. Overall its perfect for a family holiday and we'd all hope to get a chance to go back again.

Stayed at the Beach House for a week with my parents, wife and children. The house is a beautiful setting, within walking distance of the ocean and beach and, on a clear day, provides for great views of Knocknarea and Benbulben Mountains. The house was well equiped and roomy, yet cozy. With a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine, it was ideal for a traveling family. The house is very accessible to main roads that can take you to Sligo, Ballina, and Dublin, making it a great base location from which to tour the lovely northwestern part of Ireland. Lastly, there is a nice pub within easy walking distance to the house with very friendly staff and locals. My family and I will remember our trip very fondly.

We stayed in this house for a week last September and found it to be one of the most lovely breaks away. It is a large and spacious holiday home, which is very comfortable and well equipped, its open plan layout is pefect for a family holiday as i was not excluded when cooking etc...The setting is beautiful, a tranquil rural location, stunning mountain views, and sunsets, all within 100 meters from the quiet and safe beach.
We found the house warm and welcoming when we arrived with a lovely turf fire burning and Sheila McDermot had left a supply of fuel for our use, along with the oil central heating which was on also.
We will be back!! -

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the person that said the Beach House was freezing, I've spent many winters there for long weekends with friends, family and pets. The owner always has the heating on for our arrival and starts us off with good old country turf and coal for the open fire, its what we look forward to. The house itself is a fine big house, loads of room and really well maintained. Beds are all comfy, I get the best sleep when I head to aughris. I never hesitate recommending the Beach House to everyone that wants to stay in a great house in a fantastic location with the best little pub only 5 minutes walk down the beach...What more you could you ask for!

Amazing how many reviews mention the heating.
Probably because the house is hard to heat.
Very badly designed. One very big space from kitchen, to all sitting rooms and even hall stairs and landing.
Beware if you visit in Winter, the house is open and draughty and you may spend your whole time tending fires.
Cooking smells and noise cannot be kept from bedrooms also due to the design.Response from Sheila McDermott - 01/07/2013

I'm sorry to hear that you did not like the design of the Beach House, especially when it seems to be one of the reasons that we get repeat visitors all year around.
I would have thought it fairer if you had also mentioned the coal fire lit for your comfort in anticipation of your arrival and the complimentary fuel left for your use in addition to Oil Fired Central Heating.

We stayed at The Beach House in June 2012. The location is perfect for both sea and mountains. We had relatives nearby and saw lots of them. We climbed Knocknarea, went to a waterfall, ran on the beach, went fishing and generally chilled out. The house is spacious and is close to the fab Beach Bar. The beaches are gorgeous (even in the rain!!). The owner Sheila could not have been more professional or helpful. She even did some shopping for us so we would have food when we arrived. Cant wait to go again!!! 2 very happy adults and 5 very happy kids.

I stayed in the annex, along with my husband and dog, during the May Bank Holiday weekend and we loved it.
The annex was cosy, comfortable, clean and well equipped. The stove in the living room (briquettes, firelighter and matches provided) and central heating ensured that we were nice and warm despite the nippy air outside! The only minor quibble was the shower which could be improved.
The location was perfect: 1 minute from aughris beach and 5 minutes walk (across the beach or using a path) to the Beach Bar, a cosy traditional thatched pub that serves food and great Guinness. A short drive takes you to Dunmoran Strand, another longer beach. There are lots of great walks around Sligo; check out the Sligo Walking Guide that can be obtained from the Sligo Tourist Office. There are no shops etc. near the annex so you will need to drive for this.
The annex was a real home from home and its location so close to the beach was fantastic, doggy heaven! Sheila was lovely, really welcoming and easy-going. She'd even provided an information folder containing lots of useful info, even including tide times! We will definitely be back!

We stayed here for a weekend and I thought it was excellent value. The house is huge and comes with all mod cons. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Fuel was also provided which was very nice of Sheila.
I marked the check in down by one as there was no key in the box when we arrived and the number provided in the email and website was wrong. Otherwise our stay was excellent.
It's only a short walk to the Beach Bar as well and about 100 metres to the actual beach. We'll defintely be staying here again. -

The is such lovely rural location and even with three busy boys aged 7 , 4 and 2 we had plenty of room, beach was only a short walk as was the pub. House is a very good standard. Shelia was great even delivering peat for us to light the fire in the kitchen that provided loads hot water could not be be more friendly or helpful. Great value for money, we will be back for sure.

Had a lovely time at the beach house the accommodation was great, this was our second visit. Shelia the owner was very helpful during our stay. The house is very spacious with great coal fires for the cold nights and beautiful views. The beach is a two minute walk from the house, there is also a little pub the beach bar which sells great food & also has entertainment. I would say a car is essential. We stayed in June 2011 for ten days. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

Spent 10 days - just myself and the wife had 3 nights in the annexe and then a week with the rest of the family in the main house. We had a lovely time. The annexe is very smart, comfortable, and cosy - a perfect base for two. The main house is huge, lots of open space and ideal for entertaining. Beautiful views - hills on one side and the sea the other. The Beach Bar really is only 10mins slow stroll - lovely food and fantastic guinness. Would recommend this to anybody who wants true peace and quiet, or to a family that wants to explore the area.

We were delighted with the annex. It's ideal for two people providing spacious accommodation for a short stay. The location is lovely with such easy access to the sandy beach and a variety of walks. We have been to Sligo many times before but had not explored this particular region. Enniscrone is a fantastic beach backed by sand dunes; even if you do not want to swim it is marvellous for walks. We would also recommend checking out the Hawkeswell Theatre. We have enjoyed a number of very different productions there over the years.
We would happily recommend the Beach house ans annex to other holiday makers. -

My husband and I took our two kids and 2 dogs to The Beach House for the June B.H. weekend. We rented the annex which was comfortable enough for us all..We were made to feel very much at home and when our car broke down, the landlady lent us hers!!
The kids loved the sheep and cows in the field beside us...the Beach Bar is 5 mins walk away with great food, all at a very reasonable price..We loved the miles of beach all to ourselves and definitely will be back!! -

If you are looking for peace, tranquility, relaxation and a home away from home you'll find it at the Beach House, Aughris Head. The scenery is spectacular with views of Donegal, Benbulben, green fields, the sea and the cliffs. It is particularly attractive on those bright sunny days when you have the whole day to enjoy the many wonderful walks and activities that the owners have left for you to discover in their helpful guide book.
The McDermotts are friendly and attentive, they will look after your needs and give you the space to enjoy their well equipped property. They've thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
The Beach House is located only five minutes walk to a lovely little beach, which when the tide is out allows you to walk to the larger Dunmoran Strand, where you could also spend many pleasurable hours playing with the family.
For night time entertainment you could take a ten minute stroll down along the shore to the Beach bar, a traditional pub full of character, craic and good food.
My family and I have enjoyed a visit to the Beach House every year since 2006 when the Mc Dermotts first opened their doors and we'll certainly be back in the future. Bliss! -

The Beach House in Templeboy, Co. Sligo is a beautiful spacious house that can sleep plenty of people. It is tastefully decorated and very comfortable with all mod cons, including a stove and open fire where you can burn authentic irish turf! From practically all the rooms there are marvellous views of the beach , the mountains and the surrounding fields with sheep and cows grazing in them. The house is right beside aughris Beach, which is perfect for walks, surfing and swimming. At the end of the beach there is a traditional irish pub that serves very good food. The quaint pub is walking distance from the Beach House and is a very authentic atmospheric irish bar. In all, this house and it's surroundings have all the ingrediants of a perfect holiday in Ireland . We would definately go back.

I have been holidaying at the Beach House for a number of years, summer and winter, its a fantastic house, the owner is great, she really makes sure you have everything you need. Location is perfect, a 1 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute walk to the local pub. My friends and family love aughris and to have the beach house is like a home from home. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Beach House for a weekend or couple of weeks holiday.
