Remote but by no means isolated, deliciously private, flanked by an almost-deserted beach and blessed with one of the most beautiful panoramic views on earth, Villa Sapi is a rare treasure on the island of Lombok.
Sapi – meaning ‘cow’ in Indonesian – is an unusual name for a villa, but before it was developed into the architectural wonder that it is today, the property was a simple piece of grazing land for cows, the most prized possessions of any Indonesian farmer and representing the family’s status, wealth and happiness. It’s only fitting that the owners decided to name their villa in honour of the...se graceful creatures. Sapi is quite the cherished prize, and its title fits it to a T-bone.
Villa Sapi is Fantasy Island come to life, with avant-garde architecture, wide open living spaces, five bedrooms, a funky home-theatre, three swimming pools plus a kids’ pool, a tennis court and an in-ground ‘Hobbit Hole’ guesthouse. A fine selection of artwork in all forms of media includes a steel wall sculpture, which, in the context of the villa’s Bauhaus design borrowings, ‘makes perfect sense’.
The staffing is effortless. The chef and head butler have both worked for the prestigious Oberoi Hotel Group and their experience shines in the service and on the plate. In fact, the fixed daily charge for three gourmet meals is an absolute bargain. The chef will discuss your preferences and then blow you away with his creations. The rest of the all-male crew are friendly yet super-discrete. The manager is also Oberoi alumni and will organise a slew of activities, including boat excursions, road trips, bike rides and dive tours, to keep everyone amused.
Villa Sapi is extremely suitable for a family, a group of friends, or – if you can afford it – a couple alone. Having all this beauty to yourself in such a gloriously romantic location will ignite enough sparks for a lifetime.
The only negative thing about Villa Sapi is the inevitable departure, because guests will want to stay there until the cows come home…and that’s no bull!Read more
Set on the white sands of Sira Beach (also spelt Sire) in north west Lombok, Villa Sapi is pretty remote, but thanks in part to its well-connected neighbours – the Hotel Tugu and The Lombok Golf Kosaido Country Club – it has some real treats up its sleeve. Bordering the garden, the beach is safe for all levels of swimmers, while the rock pools at low tide are great for a splash or a marine biology lesson. Jumping on one of the villa’s four bicycles is a fun way to explore the local village of Tanjung, and the five-star Oberoi Lombok Hotel is also just a short drive (4km) away.

Absolutely amazing experience and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay here... A great place to relax and recharge! Highlight has to be the food!!! Which was excellent. Staff discreet and pleasant and go the extra mile on ambiance for dinner and BBQ on the beach was stunning (own band came to play). House is unique and quite open be sure that either young children can swim or you arrange full time supervision (with so many staff I am sure you can arrange full time babysitting) as there are 4 pools and quite a few ponds. Grounds are huge and the Villa has own direct beach access. Ideal for large family gatherings as it really has amazing space! Concept is unusual but very nicely done! Disappointed that the kayaks were in for repair and would liked to have known more about what activities are available in the area. Did not know that Jet Skis could be rented for example? Snorkelling was amazing but don't expect too much from the boat... Fishing trip was unsuccessful... Overall the Villa is amazing unfortunately holiday was soured by experience departing at Lombok airport. When I discovered one missing departure card - this turned into a nightmare experience - please note if you are travelling to Indonesia, make sure that all passports have been returned, all passports are stamped and particularly that you have all stamped departure cards in your possession. We were eventually allowed to leave with only 15 minutes before flight departure and after paying a "fine" the amount of which I was told not to disclose and for which I received no receipt... Not a pleasant experience and certainly a very stressful one!
