    Additional Location Information

Treasure Beach, a fishing community on the laid-back, uncommercialised south coast of Jamaica is a relatively undiscovered tourism gem. This is a destination which will welcome you into its daily life and will send you back home feeling you have really experienced something refreshing and different. Sun, sea, sand, great food, fantastic views, amazing trips ... they're all in Treasure Beach. But what makes our location so different from all the rest is the genuine warmth, friendliness and welcome from the people who live here. My words won't ever do it the justice it deserves.

      Simply superb!

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This is our second stay at Doubloon (and 3rd in Treasure Beach) and we thank owner Judy Hanley for sharing her home with us.

From the moment we step out of the airport until departure the Treasure Tours staff was professional and offered excellent service, as always. Kudos to Rebecca and her fine staff Debbian and Nickel.

The home is superb! Well maintained, perfect location, wonderful pool, and amazing views 24/7.

Our gardner Robert was amazing and keeps the outdoors looking postcard perfect.

As for housekeepers/cooks Hio and Nadine, words cannot express our gratitude. They are an absolute asset to Doubloon and their employer. These women are a true "treasure" for Treasure Beach. Food was delicious, service impeccable. We travel often, and rarely do we encounter individuals such as these ladies, who are 110% for 100% of the time.

What we liked best... The warm welcoming feeling of "coming home" when we arrived at Doubloon. What we liked least... Having to leave.

Cheers to the Doubloon and Treasure Tours staff!!!

I've emailed a copy of your words to Rebecca so that she can let the rest of the crew know how pleased you were with your vacation. I know for sure that they will be so happy to hear what you have written.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh! That really has made my day!

What a find! I’m in Doubloon heaven!

Left on 01/31/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Forget the blood-curdling stories of crime and violence associated with Jamaica, there is a completely different side to the island – and we, thank goodness, have found it! Treasure Beach is made up of a string of four sandy fishing bays, with a local community and lack of commerciality which makes you feel you have stepped back in time. Doubloon Villa sits right in the heart of this on Calabash Bay in a discreet spot which commands views across the ocean and to the mountains behind, yet is within easy walking distance of Jake’s, Jack Sprat, Marblue, Eggy’s, Smurf’s, Treasure Beach Craft Shop, Callaloo Boutique – in fact, almost anywhere that you might want to visit.

We arrived from January snow at home into warm Caribbean sunshine. Although we had plenty of plans to visit Negril, Nine Mile, climb the Blue Mountains – we landed at Doubloon, de-stressed almost immediately and did nothing but laze around, swim in the sea or the pool and drag ourselves from horizontal to vertical for a boat trip to Pelican Bar, about a mile out at sea. The boat picked us up from the water in front of the villa and took us dolphin-spotting en-route, which was thoroughly amazing!

The villa itself is right on the beach and it seems like almost every view points towards the water. My husband and I slept in the Sunrise bedroom, which meant we could practically roll out of bed and into the pool or the sea each morning. We all ate most of our meals under the tiki hut by the pool, overlooking the sea. On our final night, we ate on the beach by the light of a bonfire built by the caretaker, Robert. That was really special.

Doubloon is very comfortable and cosily furnished. You can tell by how happy the staff are and the way the villa is decorated, that it is very much loved and cared for by its owners. My party of six adults felt very at home here, we really didn’t want to leave when our week was up.

The staff – Hio, Nadine and Robert – were fantastic. They were very welcoming and we felt like part of their extended family. Hio’s cooking is absolutely delicious, we had something different every evening. Nadine baked the best carrot cake I have ever tasted.

We would definitely stay at Doubloon again. It really is a gem in Treasure Beach. One thing I would remember to bring with me next time, though, is a torch. It’s safe to walk on the roads at night, but they are poorly lit in parts and the odd pothole is prone to catch you unawares.

      We will be back.

A total gem in Treasure Beach. No kidding, there was a crocodile

Left on 01/25/2013 for a stay in December 2012

This is a great place to come with kids if you want to spend your time on the beach and relaxing at the house. In the area there?s not much to do in terms of entertainment for kiddos. There are two restaurants nearby, which are both kid-friendly (Jake?s and Jack Sprat). The setting for this home is incredible. The house is beautiful with ample space for relaxing in different outside areas. While the bedrooms and bathrooms are more than adequate, they are not luxurious. Hio, the cook, is a marvelous chef, creating fabulous fresh meals. She cooks breakfast and dinner everyday, worth it?s weight in gold not to endure long waits at nearby restaurants with kids. The landscaping around the property frames the beach below perfectly. The beach is right in front of you-- the views are stunning, there are very few people on the beach, and the water is warm and gorgeous. The major issue we had was that a day before we departed, we saw a crocodile in the ocean very close to shore swimming about for quite some time. Yikes!! We didn?t go back in the ocean after that. Had it been early on in our trip, it would have ruined out time here. Locals we talked to said this is a rare siting indeed.

Thanks so much for your positive comments about the villa and the location – it was great having you stay with us! Hio is definitely a fantastic cook, and Robert is so passionate about his gardens. I asked Rebecca to read your comments out to them and they both thank you very much for them. Hio sends you all a big hug, and Robert a beaming smile!

As for spotting a crocodile in the ocean, I was very surprised when I heard about this. The locals are right, this is an extremely rare sighting indeed. I, for one, have never seen one out there, I have always known them to be confined to the wetlands and swamps further along the coast at Black River and beyond. They can, however, be briefly disoriented by a storm or significant change in current, but are quick to return to their usual habitat.

I know that the Jamaican crocs are far less aggressive than their African/American brothers – I’ve seen tour guides up the Black River stick their heads and hands in crocodiles’ jaws - but I would always be wary of a wild animal, and I certainly wouldn't want to be putting my body anywhere near its mouth.

I am pleased to report that, according to the local fishermen who keep a vigilant watch over their waters on Calabash Bay, the crocodile you saw was harnessed and returned, unharmed, to the Black River.

I think he/she is more than happy to be back 'home' as the crocodile has not been sighted in Treasure Beach since.

In the meantime, I have put in place a warning system amongst the locals and villa staff so that if a crocodile is ever spotted in any of the Treasure Beach bays again, people staying and living in the area will be told immediately. They will also be informed once the crocodile has been removed and rehomed.

I think this is the most sensible route to take and should be a strong safeguard for both those in the sea and for the crocodile itself.

      Wonderful week in paradise

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We spent the week before Christmas relaxing in what can only be described as a tranquil paradise. The house is perfectly situated on Treasure Beach - easy walking distance to Jack Sprat's (which is convenient for a quick bite - try the jerk shrimp - it is great!), and plenty of beach to roam up and down. Hio took exceptionally good care of us - we enjoyed every meal she prepared and never left the table hungry. Robert could be relied upon to be up and cleaning the grounds every morning and was always willing to chat for a few moments.
General overview - home has four bedrooms and four baths; since there was only the two of us we stayed in the king suite nearest the pool. The patios have great seating; the tiki hut adjoning the pool overlooks the beach has the best ocean breeze & is the coolest place to relax during the heat of the day. Hio's brother took us on a boat tour to the Black River to see the crocodiles and visit the Pelican Bar. Rebecca, of Treasure Tours, does an amazing job managing her properties and checked in on us multiple times to assure our satisfaction. She also arranged our drivers to and from the airport. I strongly recommend letting her handle everything instead of trying to handle it yourself.
Quick suggestions - bring off; I went through three cans during the week we were there If you need entertainment, bring Dvds (all the rooms have TVs and DVD players). Under-pack! Treasure Beach is a place where you can live in your bathing suit/cover-up pretty much every day. Excluding when we walked into town, there was no real reason to get dressed up when the real appeal is the pool and beach. Visit an international aTM when you arrive to get Jamaican dollars; it will likely be easier than exchanging funds. Also, the driver taking us to T'Beach stopped at Border Jerk for us to grab lunch en route - worth the stop and great food. Doubloon Villa is a great place to relax and unwind. You absolutely will not regret your time here.

50th Birthday celebration, with girlfriends, amazing..

Left on 05/25/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Myself and 3 of my long time girlfriends saved money for around 10 years in a joint savings account for a celebration for our 50th birthdays. Needless to say, our expectations were high having saved so long and having done research on the many places to go and stay around the world. Donna came across the Doubloon during her searches. She had been to Jamaica before but the rest of us have not. All that to say... Our experience was amazing from the moment we were picked up at the airport by andy... Hio and Robert could not have been better and made us feel more welcome. Hio is an amazing cook and in additon to that we enjoyed her company and getting to know her. Robert was a silent comfort. We knew he was there and he did anything that we requested. The grounds were absolutely beautiful... breakfast by the pool each morning was so relaxing... I could go on and on but I just want to say for anyone reading this, if you are looking for a wonderful place to say, this is it!!!

      Amazing Villa in Paradise

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in January 2012

I travelled with friends to Jamaica for the second year in a row and we once again stayed at Doubloon. It was just as amazing this year as it was last. The villa is absolutely gorgeous and the views are amazing but the reason we went back was because of the staff. Hio is so wonderful that we feel she is now part of our family and Nadine is a fantastic addition to the team. Robert is my great wasp hunter which allowed me to open the doors to my room without fear of being stung by wasps who decided to make a home right outside my room. The only bad part of staying at Doubloon is having to leave and saying goodbye to the wonderful staff. I can't wait to visit them all again next year!

An incredibly relaxing holiday in stunning surroundings

Left on 10/05/2011 for a stay in December 2006

The only noise in this incredibly peaceful spot is the rolling of the waves and the distant call of the Frigate birds wheeling over the bay. Doubloon is located off the beaten tourist track, on the edge of a beach with wonderful views of the bay and beyond. The villa has all the comforts of home with many added extras including a superb pool and sun/moon deck. Excellent service is provided by the friendly staff who keep the villa, pool and grounds spotless and cook a wide range of tasty dishes, including some typical local delicacies. A number of very good bars and restaurants and shopping facilities are within walking distance or a short drive away and the villa is well located for interesting trips out to explore the island and the surrounding coastline. I had a truly relaxing holiday here and would thoroughly recommend it.

Wow - what to say about Doubloon...we had a wonderful stay earlier in the year. This was our second visit as a family - and I'm sure not our last.
We work very hard and it is very important to us that our holidays are perfect in every way.
We love the peacefulness and tranquility that Doubloon offers and the space to sit and empty your mind of the hum drum of everyday life. You will feel truly cleansed inside and out by the end of your holiday.
The accomodation is furnished to the highest specification is spotlessly clean yet retains an inviting and cosy feel. The food is top notch and all this is placed in the most beautiful surroundings. Hio the housekeeper does a marvelous job of looking after you - I can still taste the freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast!
My boys love it too - fishing with the locals, cricket on the beach and especially Roberts moonlight bonfires.
My husband and I spend most days relaxing by the pool looking out to sea for passing schools of dolphins, taking a short stroll to nearby Jakes at cocktail time - I even treated myself to a luxurious massage on the terrace - pure bliss.
If you are looking for a perfect holiday on the beautiful island of Jamaica then Doubloon Villa is the place for you!

We have had a wonderful holiday at Doubloon. The accommodation and catering was superb. We have one child, a 7 year old daughter, who loved the pool, the sea and especially our boat trip with dolphins so near to our boat. She met some other children holidaying near by. We have never felt so rested listening to the sea and being totally looked after. The breakfasts were incredible and a great start to the day, and each and every evening meal was delicious. We plan to return.

      Great Spot

Left on 08/15/2011 for a stay in June 2011

This place was a great find. A short walk to the 'downtown hotspots' but tucked away at the quiet, picturesque end of Calabash Bay with awesome views along the beach to the fishing boats, out to sea and across the mountains behind. The yard is beautiful, full of flowers and well cared for. The pool is sparkly spotless with plenty of room and shade around it to relax and/or socialise. The interior is freshly decorated and I loved being able to get out of bed in the morning and open my doors onto the pool area or read a whole book, uninterrupted, on the verandah! This really is a top location in Treasure Beach and, best of all, the staff are amazing. Right from the start I felt like myself and my four friends were welcomed into the Doubloon family. The meals were legendary and Hio, Robert, Rebecca and Nadine couldn't do enough for us. Rebecca even cured my prickly heat with an old Jamaican remedy! Treasure Beach is one of the friendliest, most welcoming places I have ever been on vacation and I will definitely be back.

      A stay in Paradise

Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in July 2011

I have just returned from the most wonderful holiday. I am still on a high thinking about all the amazing things I did together with my husband, three children and my sister and her family. We saw dolphins in the sea and was taken out in a boat by the local fisherman and swam with them! We saw manatees, swam in rivers, saw crocs on a boat trip and sea fished for baracudas to mention just a few things. To add to this, the accommodation was excellent, we were all more than comfortable as each room is decorated beautifully and laid out so that everyone can have their own space and come together round the table or in the sitting area to hang out or watch films. We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay by the staff and the locals. My favourite memory must be the night we had a bonfire made for us on the beach and all my family sat round with the flickering glow of the fire lighting us up - it was so heartwarming to have everyone together with such happy faces - a rare occurance with teenagers! There is something very magical about Dubloon that really makes you take stock of things. I think it must be the sheer natural beauty of the place. In particular, the garden, as it is full of the most beautiful flowers that hummingbirds dart in and out of. You can see these from my favourite sitting area which was the terrace which also gives you full view of the sea. Wonderful to sit there for afternoon tea. It was amazing - our children ranged from 5 - 18 they all loved their stay and have returned with such lovely memories to cherish. All want to go back next year.

All the bedrooms were spotless. Great showers. The food which was prepared by the staff was amazing. The house is in the perfect location - loads of privacy, great beach and my favourite thing was we could all walk to Jake's for an evening cocktail or two...
