“Our large Mcarthur family loves to go to St. Geo. Isl. every sum” The service we received began when the housekeeper carried most of my things upstairs for me since I have very bad legs and shoulders due to arthritis. She was there to change a lightbulb and was so helpful. The house was across the road from the water but all sides gave a water view and we enjoyed the sunsets and early morning coffee on the porches. Since we gathered at different families houses for dinners and swimming, we were able to enjoy not only our location but those of the other family members. The only bad thing was a big rain and some flooding on the streets around us...which couldn't be helped. We loved the crabbing across the street on the pier of my niece's house. My Golden Retriever loved the yard and the upstairs fenced in porches where she could look at what was going on in complete safety. I always want to choose one of your houses so that my best friend, my dog, Snobell can come with me. This is important since my husband has passed away. My grandchildren loved the house and visiting the other families. We like the restaurants on the island and also in appalachicola. Plus having a complete kitchen in the house to prepare food when we didn't eat in town. I do like being on the water best and want to rent the house again across the street again so we can have access to the pier. We will go to St. George as long as we are a family and hurricanes don't interfere. My husband and I spent our honeymoon on St.Geo.Isl. in 1983 and all years after until his death two years ago.

“awesome” This was a very nice vacation. The house has great views of the ocean and you can lay in your bed and still see the dolphins. The grass had grown up around the grill and it took one phone call and we were grilling in no time at all.

“Very Nice Surprise” It was our first visit of the area and St George Island. By the end all of us had a nice surprise-the vacation was just great. The island, the house and the area were above our expectations. We found a lot of exiting things to do in the area in December. We visited apalachicola museums, State Park and went for a deep water fishing trip. Everything was a great fun. But most of all we liked the beauty of the Island, Plantation and The Gulf. The house was comfortable, clean and well equipped. Very relaxing and nice but not boring vacation.

About St. George Island

Come here to relax, swim, and surf along endless strips of sugary white sand beaches and crystal blue waves. Situated between the Gulf of Mexico and the Apalachicola Bay, St. George Island offers all the traditional features of a classic Florida vacation, but it has a special appeal to lovers of nature and the outdoors. At the east end of this barrier island, 1,962 acres of land have been marked off and protected as the Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park. The park features picnicking, boating, and swimming areas, winding hiking trails, and rare species of birds and marine animals. Come here to relax and escape, or to explore and experience the natural world.

Here are a few suggestions of things to do on St. George Island:

  • Visit the St. George Island Lighthouse: Climb the stairs to the very top of this historic landmark and see the endless ocean from the lighthouse keeper's point of view.
  • Go bird watching: See some rare and protected shore birds along the sandy grass flats of St. George Island. Species to look out for include the black skimmer, the willet, and the snowy plover.
  • Take a fishing trip: Guided excursions are available, but you can also easily head out alone. Apalachicola Bay and a few other areas here are known for their flounder, sea trout, whiting, and Spanish mackerel.
  • Go on a canoeing adventure: Rent a canoe or sea kayak and experience the beauty of the gentle coastline and salt marshes.
  • Go hiking in the park: Explore the dunes, shady pine forests, and untouched beaches. Keep an eye out for elusive wildlife like the diamondback terrapin.

When you arrive here, you'll need a place to stay. Find a vacation rental close to the state park or book a condo or villa with beautiful views of the ocean at the north or west end of the Island.

Perfect family vacation

We just had our first (hopefully of many) perfectly relaxing vacation on St. George Island. The house has a lot of privacy, and it provided us with a lot of space; 4 bedrooms & two decks with sunshine and views of the ocean. Kitchens has a lot of amenities and we ate almost all meals in. The beach is such a close walk that you can come and go easily for snacks, drinks, bathroom. We saw about 20 dolphins first morning, right out from shore. And the biking! We biked every day around the island. House provides beach toys, chairs, umbrella, and bikes (4, I think). Recommendations from someone who doesn't want to drive or shop on vacation: bring all your groceries with you. It's a long drive into town and there is only one small food store w/ very limited selection.see more
Wind Sailor
Very nice house within the security of the Plantation.

Wind Sailor is a very nice house, clean, attractively decorated, good kitchen, comfortable furnishings. We enjoyed the serenity and security of being in the Plantation. It was a very good value for a beachfront property. Our only issues were with a broken sliding-glass door (in the process of being replaced), poor slides on two other sliding-glass doors (new rollers installed half way into our stay), and problems accessing wifi (passcode finally provided the day before we left). These were management issues, and, presumably, later renters enjoyed the fixes made during our three-night stay.see more

Great Rental but but too far into the neighborhood

The staff at Rvpsgi are very friendly and accommodating. The house was beautiful, probably the best we (extended family of 10) have rented in the 5 years we've vacationed as a group. King beds were very comfortable, the lower bunks, not as comfy and very squeaky. The Tv's were not good. Very few channels came in and those that did had a terrible picture. Maybe this could've been corrected if reported, but we never thought about it until the late evening. My only real negative was the location of the home. It's about as far West on the Island as you can go; almost 20 minutes from the Plantation entrance gate to the home. If this is something that you don't mind, the house is fantastic. I really loved the house, furnishings, floor plan, amenities, location relevent to the sand and water. But sadly since it's so much more inconvenient to groceries, restaurants than other homes on the island, we likely won't stay here again.see more
