“A Haven of Peace in a crazy world” I have been going to Lamu for the past 8 years and last year discovered Forodhani House. In its perfect setting it is the ideal place to spend a holiday. The staff who welcome you are warm and full of attention while being discrete. The people in Shela are the friendliest I have met and I have travelled a lot. I am going back and can't wait to take my next sunset sail.

“superb relaxation in swahili house” The total relaxed costal mentality is well captured in this Swahili beach house. Don't look for air conditioning, just use the silent fans on the high ceilings to keep it cool. Get spoiled by the outstanding cook that finishes the total luxury. The friendly management and staff do everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. All (5!) bedrooms are spacious and have beautiful daily cleaned bathrooms. The general rooms on ground and 2nd floor are relaxed and the entire house is decorated beautifully in Swahili style. The view on the Indian Ocean is awesome from every room and floor. The Colobus monkies, palm trees, lush garden and white beach make you feel living the tropical dream. Treat yourself if you have the opportunity!

“heavenly” this house is beautifully finished and appointed to the highest standard and provides an idyllic setting for a coast holiday in Kenya. the house is positioned so that it is easily accessible by road or air and is in a community which provides all the basic needs - shops, banks, sporting facilities, restaurants for those who feel the need to leave the tranquillity of heavenly. “Perfect holiday home for a big family” We stayed here for 2 weeks summer 2010, and we had a great time. The Service we received was fantastic and the home with the gesthouse was perfect for us, we were 10 persons most of the time. It was a great base for the many activities we attended. We went on a one day visit to Mombasa, on a 2 days trip to Tanzania and a 2 days Safari tour among others. The Diani Beach was amazing. Would like to come back :-)

“Stone Town comes alive” The apendalo House is located just off the bustling heart of Lamu's Stone Town. If you are looking for easy access to the towns culture, this is the place. The house itself is a beautiful four story, Swahili style building. It is very open and airy, with great winds to cool down even the hottest of days. Additionally, Katana - your liaison for your stay - can set you up with everything, from dhow rides to specially made morning fruit juices. We would also recommend going with a hired chef. If you have a large group, this is easier, cheaper and nicer than eating out. However, take note not to confuse this part of Lamu with Shela, which is where many tourists go for beach lounging and complete tranquility. Lamu's Stone Town is a living place, which means donkeys braying and regular call to prayers from the many nearby mosques. For us, this added to the charm. And while the apendalo House is only about 30 meters from the beach, this is not a place where you can swim but instead enjoy watching the dhows being loaded and unloaded as they have for centuries.
