Ye Olde Manor House Bed and Breakfast

Elkhorn house

  • 8 bedrooms
  • 9 bathrooms
  • sleeps 20

“It's Delightful, It's Delicious, It's De-lovely!” One would think that Cole Porter wrote those lyrics after visiting Ye Olde Manor House! The owners, Karen Fulbright-Anderson and John anderson, are a delightful, warm, welcoming couple. They are so friendly and engaging that you feel at home almost as soon as you arrive. And their home reminds me of an English Country Cottage with the many comfortable seating areas and nooks and crannies expected. There is also a beautiful green lawn with several flowering beds and many lovely spots for sitting. But the piece de resistance of the public areas is the year-round indoor/outdoor pool, with a depth of no more than 5 feet, which makes it perfect for swimmers and non-swimmers (me) alike. First, and most importantly, each guest room has it's own private bath stocked with lovely smelling potions and lotions, big, soft, fluffy bath towels and anything else that you might need. Second, the rooms are lovely. I stayed in the 'Oak Room', which is filled with antique oak furniture and is perfect for one person. There is a chair for reading, a beautiful antique trunk that you can sit on use for your luggage and antique lamps, doilies and trinkets. There were two other guest rooms nearby, but I slept like a baby and never heard anyone else! The breakfast that John and Karen offer negates the need for lunch! You have a choice of Vegan, Vegetarian or the Meat and Dairy eaters breakfast, and everything they prepare is delicious! Finally, there are plenty of other things to do nearby-walking around the Lake, hiking, visiting the quaint Town of Elkhorn, attending concerts and, my favorite, antique fairs!! My long weekend at Ye Olde Manor House was so enjoyable and relaxing that it left me feeling as though I'd spent a week at a spa. Writing about it is making me feel the same way all over again. I can't wait to visit again!!!

"Twilight" - Enjoy Lake Winnebago's east side experience!

Chilton house

“Wonderful cabin on Lake Winnebago” This house is as advertised and more. My family arrived for a week of relaxation and we were not disappointed. The house was super clean with all we would need for the week. The sun room was a great addition with beautiful views of the lake, the deck was huge with a swing for two ( spent many mornings sitting and listening to the birds sing) and the grill was a great asset. The yard was huge with enough room for all your outdoor games. The family spent much time in the lake(was sooo hot) which is a great swimming lake with the sand bar just feet from the dock. At night the fire pit was a great thing to have as the kids loved sitting by the fire making smores and reflecting on the wonderful day we had. I would DEFINATLEY stay here again! Oh almost forgot Kristie is absolutley the best host. She called to make sure we arrived and had everything we needed. Thanks again Paul and Kristie!! P.S. thanks for the welcoming gift it will always remind us of our vacation.

Lake Shore House on Lake Michigan! Dog Friendly!

Sheboygan house

“The Lakeshore House is just as nice as the pictures make it look!” My husband and I loved the Lakeshore House. It was cute, clean, and had beautiful views. There were many thoughtful surprises, like binoculars to view the birds and boats on the lake, and baby-gates to keep our dog out of areas of the house we didn't want him to go. Our only suggestions would be that Mark should add some paintings of the Lakeshore House to his notecards and art prints for sale -- We think people would love to purchase them as souvenirs. Also, I wish there had been a Keurig coffee maker. Finally, the backyard cliff kind of freaked me out, although it was beautiful. Some kind of fence might be nice. We couldn't let our dog out there without him being on a leash. Despite these details, we really loved it. Over all, it was a very lovely place that we would definitely recommend to others.

“Awesome Week” My family and I stay for a week and we had such a great time. The house had everything we needed. We enjoy the peace and quiet that we had and just looking out the windows at the lake and all that if offered. We had a minor issue but Paul and Kristie took care of it right away. We certainly would like to come back again soon.

“Paradise Home.” We stayed at the paradise home in October of this year 2013. it was absolutely beautiful! the house was very spacious and the fishing here is absolutely fantastic! we caught many largemouth bass and huge blue gill. the home was very clean and had very modern features. there is a large screen TV in the living room and a fireplace. the stereo in the house is hooked up to the decks outside speakers so you can listen to music if you're sitting on the deck and playing cards or just enjoying the view. the nature trail walk around the lake is a must!!! It is so beautiful and you see everything from beautiful flowers to wild life. we will definitely be going back again! they have 4 beaches to swim or sun at, and each house has its own row boat and paddle boat. there is also a Jacuzzi off of the master bedroom that hold about six people with beautiful views threw the large windows of the lake and property. I guarantee if you stay here you will come back every year! the hosts are very courteous and friendly and have everything taken care of ahead of time. we went into town for the Friday night fish fry and it was fantastic! it was called the teepee super club. we are already planning are trip to go up next year!

“Fantastic facility with equally wonderful hospitality” The facility was rustically beautiful, clean, spacious and charming. Both Dan and Loraine were kind and met every one of our needs. The kitchen was filled with every conceivable appliance in perfect condition. We could not have had a better facility for the days we stayed. The beauty of the Wisconsin countryside was visible from every room. Also Dan was very gracious to show some of our relatives his farm and the deer.

“Wonderfully comfortable home away in the Northwoods” 5 minutes is all it took to appreciate the attention to detail Rick put into this place. Small but very accommodating place that provided exactly the type of inviting warmth in virtual solitude we were seeking. Perfectly equipped to stay in and cook meals, relax by the fire and listen to music. Our canine companion had the freedom to run and explore while walking the property/neighborhood. Never felt like the cabin was lacking anything. The lighted trees created a wonderful ambiance at the end of the day. Overall, a perfect retreat for couples and we will be back to explore in the summer.

About Wisconsin

Wisconsin has a lot more to offer than just cheese and friendly folk, although you won't go very far without encountering one or the other. With coasts on two of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, and a healthy sprinkling of smaller lakes and ponds throughout the remainder of the state, there is a surprising amount of water activities to be had in this northerly state. Head to the central region of the state to experience how the Amish community lives or go to your favorite brewery for a tour. In the Dairy State, there is something for everyone.

Some of the sights you will not want to miss include:

  • Wisconsin Dells: Synonymous with a Wisconsin family vacation, this town offers a plethora of activities to keep the young ones happy, such as waterparks, roller coasters and even more waterparks. It is no surprise this town has been deemed the "Waterpark Capital of the World." With wineries, zip lines and some seriously good restaurants, adults can have just as much fun as the kids.
  • Door County: For a visitor that prefers a bit of seclusion, head here. With a coast offering quiet caves and dramatic cliffs, this area is best explored by kayak. In the dry land areas, however, there are a number of cultural activities that will float your boat as well. Theatrical performances, art galleries and maritime museums are just a handful of attractions travelers will enjoy.
  • Milwaukee: Known affectionately as the U.S.'s Brew City, Milwaukee is home to Miller beer and the only Harley-Davidson Museum in the country. The area is rich in cultural history and historic neighborhoods. It also features modern restaurants, a buzzing nightlife and several shopping districts.
  • Green Bay: As the state's oldest community, Green Bay is now best known for its namesake football team, the Green Bay Packers. Sports fans will go wild for the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame and Lambeau Field.
  • Cambridge: This Victorian village resides on the shores of Lake Ripley. It is known for playing host to Rowe Pottery Works, which is the focus of downtown. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants and galleries for travelers to check out as well.
  • Madison: As the state's capital, this city combines the charm of a small town with big city offerings. Capitol Square features an excellent open-air market from spring to fall and is the place to see and be seen. Madison also features the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the University of Wisconsin.
  • Baraboo: As the hometown of the Ringling Brothers, travelers flock to this town for one very big top attraction, the Circus World Museum. Other attractions include the International Crane Foundation, Devil's Lake State Park and the nearby Mid-Continent Railway Museum.

Wisconsin offers travelers a lot to choose from in terms of activities. Making a big splash with the families is of course Wisconsin water parks. Outdoor lovers will enjoy pitching their tents for Wisconsin camping since there are so many picturesque surroundings to choose from. Wisconsin national parks do not disappoint either for visitors wanting to take in the greenery. For couples, inspiring amor is easily achieved with Wisconsin romantic getaways.

After a long day of sightseeing, travelers can take comfort in all the fixings from home with a vacation rental of their choice. A cabin in the countryside makes for a secluded excursion designed to provide tranquility while a condo in downtown Madison will put you in the heart of all the action. No matter what gets your pulse pounding, Wisconsin is one state that will constantly surprise you in the best ways possible!
