Response from the manager Thank you for your very thorough review! Traditional Japanese machiya are indeed quite different from a typical western-style house. The kitchen may be cozier than what many are used to, but basic kitchen facilities are available at this machiya for guests to enjoy. You may not be able to cook a 3 course meal, but with the available cookware, you can prepare simple meals during your stay! In regards to the futon bedding, because the sleeping space is located on the 2nd floor (separate from the living, dining, bathroom space), guests can simply push aside futons into the corner of the room for convenience. Also, you will find that some of the cupboards found at the machiya are locked, because this is where our house keeping staff keep their cleaning supplies. As for the dog barking next door, we will notify our neighbors so that they are aware of the situation, and we shall re-stock the umbrellas at the machiya. Thank you again for your review!
