“Wouldn't hesitate to recommend - just fabulous”
We spent a wonderful 8 days at Inspiration Villa at the end of October 2014. A family (plus aunt) with 3 boys, 18, 15 and 13. The Villa The house is lovely. Simple, elegant, stylish, clean, well maintained, polished concrete, wooden decks, infinity pool, great bathrooms, perfect. The dining area only has a low table so not for formal dinners - there's a table for 4 in the corner, it could really do with another to gang up for a family supper. Bedrooms are simple and elegant. More minimalism and clean lines. Bathrooms very cool, great showers and western toilets... Housekeeper, gardener, etc. always present but never conspicuous. The level/quality of maintenance is first class. The Grounds The gardens run down to the sea from the infinity pool (small but nice - perfectly clean, and lit at night along with the gardens) to the sandy volleyball court then the lawn (including a pagoda in the corner with hammocks and mats - a great venue for massages...) down to the sea. The beach is pebbly/rocky (not sharp) so takes a little care - but it's not a bad launching pad for the 2 sea kayaks on the rack. We had great fun. Paddles and buoyancy aids were all lined up. The kitchen in the garden was more than adequate - particularly as there was a great restaurant across the road that delivered within minutes (more later). Location The location is great; at the South end of White Sands beach and well positioned for all of the activities on the island. Whilst it sounds grim, the villa is located to the rear of a large Tesco Lotus store. But you enjoy all the convenience that a large supermarket has to offer. And, as it's hidden by the trees at the end of a fairly long drive you'd hardly know it was there. Wander up for freshly squeezed fruit juices, croissants from the bakery, sun cream or a case of beer from the fridge. The garden is overlooked by a hotel but it's very quiet and appears largely empty. Once you're inside the villa/garden it's simply idyllic. The waves lap against the edge of the lawn, the sun sets on the horizon, and the garden is beautiful. Transport is simple - there's a steady stream of taxis operating in both directions, we never waited more than 2 minutes. We also rented scooters to bob around on at BHT200 (£4) per day arranged by the villa manager, Jay (more later). The roads are a little bumpy and hilly, so not for a beginner, and there's no insurance so a bit risky - if you're sensible and cautious we found it fine. The Town We spent all of our time on the West coast of Koh Chang. The beach strips are pretty typical Thailand - but maybe 10 years behind the big resorts (and better for it). There are a few seedy bars, but not excessively. The Main Street is laid back and good fun. Beach restaurants are great, bars abound, you can pretty much find anything you want here. Plenty of families with kids, through to backpackers. The open top VW camper cocktail bar is a must. Things to do We we in Koh Chang for a week. We went Scuba diving, Elephant trekking and Fishing. We also had massages in the garden a few times from local experts. All were great and efficiently arranged with the help of the villa manager. So here's where we get to Jay... The guy that manages this villa is simply terrific. A Brit who's lived in Koh Chang for 20+ years and seems to know everyone. You'd struggle to meet a nicer more genuine guy. He was able to give us an insight and an opinion on everything we wanted to do, and came up with great suggestions. We worked out a plan for the week, Jay made a few calls and, without a single hitch, everything fell into place. Jay's restaurant is across the road at the end of the drive, a short walk from the villa. It's basic, and by the side of the road, but the food is fantastic. Jay's wife Jow runs the joint and does it very well. The breakfasts were out of this world - a selection ranging from muesli, fresh fruit and yoghurt through to a full English breakfast with Jay's homemade sausages (easily the best I've had in Asia, and right up there with best ever), and plenty of Thai options as well. And if we didn't fancy the walk Jay would pop dinner round on his scooter stacked up in lovely stainless steel pots. Couldn't be better. At the last gasp we had a change in plan regarding flights - no problem. Jay spent a few minutes on the phone and tickets and taxis were changed without any drama. Quite simply, we had a great week. The Vila was perfect, the island enchanting and nothing was too much trouble for Jay and his team. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay.
“Excellent stay in a really nice villa and a great welcome”
We staid in Koh Chang from August 1st till 10th and enjoyed a lot the villa. We were not so lucky with the weather due to the rainy season but Jay and his wife helped us to have a great stay. Having a warm welcome and support during the stay, we appreciated the easy access to the restaurant and breakfasts delivered on our request. It was a 4 stars type of holidays in a well managed and cleaned villa. The cleaner and gardener were always acting but never visible, we had to stay some days in due to the rain but they managed to have all done in a smooth way. I really recommend the villa if you want to stay in Koh Chang and avoid all the resorts and hotel with too many people. If you go there, don't avoid to eat at Jay's wife restaurant and she is a real chef !
“I wanted to take Jay's Wife home with me!”
We stayed for three in January and I have to say its one of the best rentals we have stayed in! The house and its location is just perfect, peaceful yet just a couple of minutes by scooter to the main beach, Jay who runs the restaurant over the road manages the property and he and his lovely wife made our holiday, quite simply the best food on the Island - go try it you wont disagree with me! You will find cheaper places on the island to stay but none as in this league, treat yourself it is certainly worth it
“Awesome experience in a luxury home”
We stayed in this villa with a group of guys en their late twenty's. The house is in top shape, with it's pool and volleyball court and situated at the sea. Jay, a friendly English man, has a restaurant across from the villa and manages the villa. He helps you get around and his wife is a really good cook and provides meals whenever you want. I recommend the BBQ they set up for us. All in all great stay on the beautiful island of Koh Chang.
“Amazing sunsets, right on the ocean in Koh Chang”
The house was a great option for our family of 9, with 5 children. The sand volleyball was a hit, as was the kayaking, and outside dining area. The maid service was comprehensive and non-intrusive. Our meals from the restaurant across the street were great Thai food and the kitchen gave us the option of providing our breakfast at a leisurely pace when we needed it. The only downside was visiting White Sand Beach, the closest "city". Since our last visit to Koh Chang a few years ago, it has turned into an area that I don't want to walk through with my children. Would love to visit again when we have other visitors to take along with our family.
